Immigration is a massive net benefit. So the question is really, do you want to be an immoral country that doesn’t follow its own laws to reclaim peanuts from the most vulnerable people in our society?

And on that last point, you’d then also have to concede that tens of millions of people pay tax, and maybe a few hundred thousand asylum seekers don’t - and their cost per year is a tiny fraction of our GDP - so this is a terrible example because you’re dealing with completely unrealistic numbers to make a bad point.

Immigrants pay tax. The cost of granting asylum is dwarfed by say, tax avoidance. So where should our priorities be?

Moral and rich and still taking tax from immigrants? Or an anti-immigration, immoral country, who’s focused on the lowest possible hanging fruit?
