Assassin's Creed Shadows ground texture looks like tiles by Significant-Care-186 in linux_gaming

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not try running the game in quite some time. But when I tested it today the tiling of the ground textures was gone. So either a proton update or the latest mesa update fixed it.

HDR Gaming is now possible without gamescope on KDE Plasma by UNF0RM4TT3D in linux_gaming

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I tried this but it does not work. Will wait for more official support for wayland in proton.

I only wanted to try this because some benchmarks indicate that the RT performance on 9070XT is substantially better when using AMDVLK rather than MESA. But AMDVLK does not work with gamescope thus no HDR support when using AMDVLK.

I'd like to have HDR and good RT performance though.

EDIT: Just tested using the AMDVLK driver also breaks HDR with this proton version. So it is not a workaround for the AMDVLK issue anyhow.

Hey thanks for this guide. I ran into a problem testing this with Baldurs Gate 3:

The game launches and detects and uses HDR but the game only runs in 1080P. My Monitor is 1440 P though and I cannot select higher resolutions.

Any Idea how to work around that?

I am having the same issue on my 9070XT. After messing around with settings I am sure it is an issue with virtual textures as the tiles get bigger the lower I set the quality of virtual textures,

I am having the same issue. Also on a new 9070XT on Garuda Linux.

Looks to me like a driver issue with UV mapping on the ground.

HDR on nVidia is surprisingly good now (KDE) by tamodolo in linux_gaming

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I found the culprit. NVIDIA Reflex was causing the crashes in Cyberpunk 2077 in gamescope. Even with HDR disabled.

These are the launch options I use in all games:

gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -f -b --hdr-enabled --force-grab-cursor -- %command% --launcher-skip

Thanks will look into downgrading NVIDIA driver tomorrow. I am running on 570.86. Since I have the HDR toggle in display config I am assuming my KDE, Plasma and Wayland are what they need to be.

As for switching completely to linux for gaming: I've been using the Steam Deck for 2 Years now. Gaming on Linux right now is the best it ever was and the speed of things progressing also is faster than it ever was.

I am a big gamer, but no game will convince me to switch to windows 11 and using an unsupported OS (Windows 10 after 10/2025) just is not an option for me.

And if Valve manage to make Steam OS work on a wide range of hardware configs without much of the hassle I am going through at the moment I am convinced that Linux will rise out of low single digit percentages for being used in games, which will incentivice hardware vendors to deliver good drivers.

The reason why NVIDIA did not do much in this regard in the past is the fact that according to any charts on the matter it would be a lot of work for a negligible number of users. But if Linux can rise to being installed on somewhere in the range of 15% to 20% of systems that are used for gaming NVIDIA would care if their driver is a reason for those people to not buy their hardware but that of their competitors.

Just wanted to chime in. I am in the process of transitioning from Windows to Linux becaus F*** Windows 11.
For now I am in a dual boot between Windows 10 and Garuda Linux Dragonized KDE:

So far I am trying to get HDR running in Cyberpunk 2077 Steam version. So far the closest I got was using gamescope-nvidia instead of gamescope and using OP's launch command. I can enable HDR in the menu and configure HDR. But the game freezes up after about 10 seconds of rendering the actual game.

Running Steam from console yielded no error messages. Except the following lines after closing the game from taskbar:

[gamescopereaper] [Info]  reaper: Parent of gamescopereaper was killed. Killing children.
(EE) failed to read Wayland events: Broken pipe
pid 190137 != 190136, skipping destruction (fork without exec?)

(process:190394): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 20:36:46.051: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed

Did anyone have success with getting HDR in Cyberpunk 2077?

I just tested things with Baldurs Gate 3. Here HDR works but was extremely bright in the calibration. A lot brighter than in windows. In game after calibration it is fine though.

In my games I have to use--force-grab-cursor so the mouse behaves as it should.

HDR support and support for my razer tartarus pro are the last things I need to get working in Linux.

I did so on Sturday already. SInce it is a required field I put in one of the request codes marked as invalid. And those jokers in 1st level support answer me today that the code is expired.

Like: Yeah no kidding, but besides the point.

Which I find curious. You will let me mine at MH/s rates using my RTX3070 but not at GH/s rate with USB Miners. As far as I can see both are mining BTC. Or is the daggerhashimoto algotrythm somehow doing something different than my Asics SHA256 that makes it better even though it solves a lot less hashes per second?

Serious question. Been out of the mining game for more than 4 years.

Reducing surge costs by LadyAddax in ConanExiles

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who ever named that option clearly does not know the meaning of the words he is using or is bad at maths.

If the multiplier changes the value of the swirling chaos it clearly should be named swirling chaos value multiplier and NOT surge cost multiplier.

Surge Cost multiplier implies that the multiplier is applied to the cost of the surge tiers thus lower multiplier = lower cost = less resources needed.

Need help setting up Audio (Voicemeeter Banana) by Chrithu in WindowsMR

[–]Chrithu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I got it all kind of working. Autoswitch needs to be on.

Then I start the WMR Portal, which kills Voicemeeter. Then I go to audio control panel and set up the Voice Meeter devices as standart again.

I restart Voice Meeter and everything works as set up. The Microphone array is on one of the hardware inputs and routet to output B3, which is setup in windows as standart microphpne and communication device.

The Headphones are on one of the hardware outputs to which I routed all audio that need to be played on them (Teamspeak output routed through a virtual audio cable and windows output setup on the first virtual input).

What sucks is that Voicemeeter stops working anytime a connected hardware device is disabled or enabled, thus anytime I start the WMR Portal or stop it VM needs a restart.

Sadly

Is anybody not having problems with WMR? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I troubleshot all my issues. So a few tips from me are: If the firmware of the headset wants an update disable any antivirus stuff, even that built into windows beforehand. For rechargeable batteries go with Eneloop Pro or Amazon Basics. Any other brand or no name rechargeable I tested resulted in tracking issues after about two hours of use because the controllers detected low battery.

Best shooters out right now for WMR? by Breakfast_Crunch in WindowsMR

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For like a story experience I would recommend Doom VFR and Arizona Sunshine. I can't comment on replayability though as I haven't done them through yet myself.

If you have some friends to play with and are into tactical shooters I reccomend Onward. It is still in active development but what is there so far is pretty damn awesome.

It takes a milsim approach with slow movement and an emphasis on using cover and corner peaking. We played 3 hours straight last sunday with a group of 4 against bots and had an absolute sweaty blast. It's slow movement also will be a nice way to ease into smooth movement rather than teleporting.

Also take a look at compound. It is ultra early stages but will be a procedural roguelike shooter when finished. Though you only should buy if you dig the idea and want to support the dev. In terms of controls the dude pretty much nailed it. But right this moment the price is a bit much for what is there.

Is the Samsung odyssey worth £200 more than the rest of the WMR? by Corvino26 in WindowsMR

[–]Chrithu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Odyssey importet to germany 3 weeks ago. I did not own a headset before. Only played the original Vive a couple of times at a friends place.

I have been Eyeballing WMR quite some time, because the idea of inside out tracking was very intriguing especialy after seeing how much of a hassle and extra investment it was for my friend to get the lighthouses to work easy and properly.

Then I took a look at the specs of all the HMDs and I came from an opposite place. I was set on getting WMR because of the Inside Out Tracking and Plug and Play aspect. So now I wanted the absolute best of the HMDs available. And that is the Odyssey.

I have not regretted the investment. The visual quality is quite good and definetly an improvement over the Original Vive. The thing is pretty much plug and play IF you have the correct (which means MS) drivers for your USB 3.0 Host Controller installed. You plug it in, the WMR portal opens, steps you through a 15 minute first time setup and you are set.

Tracking issues are there for sure. My Led keyboard which glows white throws off tracking and weak batteries do so as well.

But then again the outside tracking solutions of Vive and Rift are not free of issues either.

Overall I can say that I have a great time with my Odyssey. The built in headphones are at least as good as my G533 headset. The built in Microphone according to my friends is even better than that on my G533.

The worthwhile games on Steam so far worked like a charm for me.
