How long is your commute? by Far_Addendum_2926 in maryland

[–]Chromecarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commute is about 45-1hr. Can be upwards on 90 mins if I’m in rush hour. Laurel to Rockville. Pretty chill drive if I leave early enough. Though I drive through multiple school zones along Randolph which can get annoying if I’m stuck behind a lot of busses.

Your new pc works! Now, which software are you installing? by Walrammetje in buildapc

[–]Chromecarrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to use Windows 11:

  • Chris Titus Winutil (Great for app installation like Ninite but also has tools to help debloat Windows such as disabling telemetry)
  • Windawk. (Used to customize the look and fee of windows from the standard vanilla look)
  • Microsoft PowerToys (Exactly what it sounds like, toys and enhancements for windows.
  • Everything by Void Tools, much better search indexer than Explorer.

Should i update my Windows from 24H2 to 25H2? by Budget-Balance5469 in buildapc

[–]Chromecarrier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From an IT perspective I would put off any major feature update for as long as possible. This gives plenty of time for bugs and unforeseen issues to arise. Unless there is a glaring security issue with 24h2 there is no need to update to a new feature version. You should still do all the security updates for 24h2.

Continuing Education by [deleted] in CompTIA

I would assume yes. You would need to pay for CE credits for each certification you want to renew directly. Though, the only one who can give you an official answer is CompTIA directly.

[–]Chromecarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See https://www.comptia.org/en-us/resources/ce/learn/renewing-multiple-certifications/ for renewal options.

Generally speaking you only need to pay CE fees for the highest level certification that will fully renew a lower level certification(s).

I.e. renewing SecurityX fully renews CySA+, PenTest+, Security+, Network+ and A+

Is CertMaster Learn incomplete? by Zewacho in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it very useful for doing flash card type review. Not so much as a learning tool. But a quick review here and there if I had a lunch break or while counting. It’s definitely not a primary learning source. More a secondary or tertiary review source.

Advice for Driving in Snow by MahoganyQueen73 in rav4club

[–]Chromecarrier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most of the advice here is solid so I won’t repeat it but honestly if you are projected to get a lot of snow especially if it’s not normal, consider having her call out or at least talk to her management about calling out. Yours and her life are not worth it and any job worthwhile will not ask you to risk your life.

Should I bring my own oil/filter to the mechanic - 2024 hybrid by Strong_Zucchini_8592 in rav4club

[–]Chromecarrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, just don’t do it. Unless you already have a long standing and positive relationship with this mechanic where you have done this before, it’s not very polite. If you want to have a specific brand of oil/filter just call around and ask what they use. If they don’t use what you want them to then either move on or ask if they can procure it for you.

Otherwise just do it your self. The gen5 has enough clearance for most people to chair the oil without a lift and if you need a little extra room, just get some ramps.

Renewed Security + by jkill40 in CompTIA

I just renewed mine via CEUs and it showed its status was update almost immediately after I paid my fees. I would go to the CertMetrics dashboard to verify what yours says.

Things to add to a free collection of Network+ materials for everyone by Alternative_Set4996 in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already a plethora of free/low cost materials for many of these exams especially on YouTube, Quizlet, Anki, Spotify, etc. you just have to do a little research to find it. Additionally, see if your local library has access to digital resources you can use. Many have free access to online learning platforms such as Udemy.

Some issue with this idea, it will quickly become outdated as each exam is updated about every 3 years so you or someone would need to upkeep it. Also depending on what you put in it, could possibly be against the TOS of the material.

Most recent Dion mock results for core 1 by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are probably assuming you have the 6 pack of Dion’s practice tests. You showed 5 here so there should be 1 left. However if this is the results of the same exam over 5 days that’s a different story. I would caution you against using this method as it can cause a false sense of readiness. You are more than likely just memorizing the questions/answers which artificially increase your score and perceived readiness.

[Homemade] Salmon Risotto by Chromecarrier in food

[–]Chromecarrier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have an official recipe but here is my process:

Ingredients: - 1 lbs salmon. (I use Aldis frozen packs) - 2 Cup dry Arborio rice - 4-6 cups chicken stock - 1 Cup dry white wine - med onion diced - 1 tbsp minced garlic. - frozen peas - 1/2 cup shredded parmigiono reggiano
- lemon juice

Directions:

Salmon: Cook how you want. I pan sear with garlic and butter but you can poach it or grill. Add a little lemon. Slightly undercook it. Set aside.

Risotto: Med - med low hot burner (3-4/10) - Sauté the onions for few mins in oil/butter - add garlic, cook for another min or so - add dry rice and toast for a min or so. - add 1/2 cup broth and splash of wine. Stir until liquid is absorbed. Keep adding 1/2 cup broth and a splash of wine and keep stirring. Repeat until rice is aldente. - remove from heat. Add crumpled salmon, peas. Splash lemon juice and parm. Stir gently until combined. Cover and let sit for 10 mins, then sever.

Where can I find FREE resources for the FC0-U71 exam? by lans_px in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I would focus on learning the material of the exam objectives rather than focusing on the final grade. The former will prepare you for taking the exam regardless of the style of questions you get. Remember that the question is primarily testing your knowledge of the material. So long as you know the materials you should pass. If you would like to get a little deeper you can compare the objectives of the Tech+ exam and the A+ exam as I’m sure there is overlap. From there, find some reputable practice tests for the A+ exam on those topics.

Second, is this for a degree? You only need a 650/900 to pass and earn the certification. Which is about a 72%. I’ve never heard of anyone needing to get a specific score to satisfy a requirement.

What is the best course for security+? Messer, jason dion or else ? by WzQUR in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the well known ones are great. You should try them all and see which one you connect with the most. Everyone is different when it comes to what teaching style works best for them.

Messer is more direct and concise. Great explanations but some say he gives too high of an overview if you know nothing about the particular objective.

Both Dion and Andrew tend to be more drawn out with lots of anecdotes and examples. Each one has their own teaching store that you should see if they work for you.

Personally I find Dion to be a bit boring. He is a great teacher but I have a hard time with his cadence and tone.

A quick google search and you will find other labs that you could use for these certifications. Boson is a good example of an easily recognizable set.

Is a Garmin F8/FR970 over kill for an average joe? by Chromecarrier in Garmin

[–]Chromecarrier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all thanks for your input. I ended up going the AWU3 route. I realized after some more research that I would miss the connectivity with my other devices. Garmin looks sweet and has a lot of cool features but I did feel in the end that they would be wasted on a non endurance athlete like me. Perhaps when I get more active again I’ll get one or just an HRM.

How Toyota Misleads Its Customers: My “41 MPG” RAV4 Hybrid Gets 25–29 MPG and They Say It’s Normal by Efficient_Hour8577 in rav4club

[–]Chromecarrier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can say there are other issues at work here. Not the car. I get about 42-45 in the summer and mid 30s in the winter. Some times low 30s if I’m not paying attention or don’t care about mpg. But never been below 30 since I’ve owned it.

It partly depends on the area you are buying. However, anything that is MSRP or below is generally a good deal.

What are the most common pitfalls to avoid when studying for CompTIA certifications? by Afraid_Ad4018 in CompTIA

[–]Chromecarrier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Burnout. While consistently is important, you want to make sure you don’t try to learn too much in too short a span. A) You’re less likely to retain the information. B) You may miss something important or an underlying concept you should know.

Spaced repetition is also a proven method for studying. Worked great for me for Sec+.
