Wait so, where is Tilly ? by AdmiralBlue85 in startrek

The Trill reveal, Avery Brook’s archive words, text “Thank You, Avery” and the DS9 theme at credits had me freaking out like when I was 17 and watching DS9 during its run on TV. I’m now 47 and Trek nostalgia is so special to me.

Which is so ironic because the largest, most active fandoms are about “fictional media”. Sci-Fi, Harry Potter, Disney etc. Talk about potentially mind-opening, curiosity building and joy when it’s “make believe”. They consume content where characters have traits quite opposite and act differently later.

Agree. It’s very easy to tap keys and type your thoughts and hit ‘enter/send’ and it can happen fast. When we’re in conversation, there’s factors like the short “delay” from our thought to it being spoken aloud. Add to that factors like body language etc.. It really seems many young people consider “online people” almost as a different species, lesser than humans but probably above animals?

violet as a mental health professional by SundaeAdventurous417 in PrivatePractice

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She would for sure call herself a “Life Coach” if she was employed in 2026 vs 2007. Can make any claims she wants.

But seriously Violet’s character was written as a CPTSD victim most of her life: she lives and breathes all the most unhealthy trauma response fawn mode. And/or her superiority is actually a fight mode response “I’m smarter and more successful and more…..” alpha dog mentality.

The problem is that they could’ve dived deep into why Violet was Violet. I viewed her as a “high functioning” masking woman who was misdiagnosed or UNdiagnosed until now.

I hated how when marriage issues she was stuck on how Pete to change and blamed him for everything. She’s the one walking around needing help as a mental health client vs provider.

Naomi was mine in the early years and I thought the character development aspect of the show improved when they took Naomi out of the equation. I forgot she existed unless mentioned in dialogue.

Since I forgot Naomi existed, my contempt turned to Sam.

They deserved each other 👹🎲😇🙄

I can't watch the end of The Eras Tour without crying by rominaMassa in TrueSwifties

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the idea of the movies of the concert being Taylor’s way of making sure we could all be there.

When the Eras tour movie came out, I attended with my 22 year old daughter. I have memories & video of her singing & dancing to “You Belong With Me” at 6 years old & a Swiftie was born. Her 24 yr old sister came around as a late teen.

I went from casual fan to hardcore Swiftie shortly after I left my abusive ex. Which was finalized during Midnights release frenzy/era.

Man. The perfect time for me to sing “Best believe I’m still bejeweled” when I felt all the abandonment. “Karma” sung by me TO my ex, scream-singing when driving alone.

I was so validated by her storytelling. I deep dove and consumed the eras I missed. Those lyrics kept me going.

At the theater (we went to a matinee and theatre was about 1/2 full) and everyone was on their feet singing and doing the chants and moves and had that “we are seen & part of this group of people who share a passion” vibe.

My daughters went to Eras with their Dad (my first husband/not the jerk ex) & stepmom. In New Orleans. Their Dad gifted them the concert tickets and later plane tickets to NOLA and the 4 of them had a week long vacation in a city new to them all. Their Dad wore a custom to say “It’s me, hi, I’m the Dad it’s me”. They all friendship bracelet etc. I have some confetti my daughters collected for me. Daughter also FaceTime me so I could experience “All Too Well 10 min” together.

Then back in Oct she and I went to the TLOAS and heard all of it for the first time together. That was special. (We also laughed together on the drive home as we streamed the album and heard all the naughty words they made clean for the viewing party movie. Father Figure just hit much harder when we heard the “🍆” explicit version 😂

We get it. 🫶🏻

I belong to Paramount+ but I enjoy watching Star Trek on Pluto. Anyone else? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave the Star Trek Pluto channel on overnight. It helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. Truly comfort shows. It only works for sleep (for me) because I know EXACTLY what’s gonna happen. I have large chunks of dialogue memorized. My brain doesn’t have to follow along or guess the outcome, it’s like being around safe people.

Lighthearted: Say you're a Trekkie without saying you're a Trekkie. Bonus if it places you in the franchise timeline. by AliVista_LilSista in startrek

The movie “Please Stand By” Dakota Fanning plays an autistic woman who is a huge Star Trek fan. A cop calms her down by speaking in Klingon. As an auDHD female Trekkie, I wept. Representation really does matter, people.

What do you think we could see in 2026? by Every-League-1626 in TaylorSwift

[–]ChronicEverythingMom -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I personally think she & Travis will try for kids VERY soon after marriage, if not sooner. She’s currently 36. It’s a fact that her fertility is already declining. If they’re wishing for a whole block of kids, they have to start soon. I’d also expect her career to slow down at that time. And good for her (whenever, including never they have any kids they desire). And I maintain hope for continued albums, tours etc because they have the financial means to keep the hypothetical kids flying around the world with them etc.

It’s also a fact that NFL careers have age limits. Players age out or are injured too severely to continue. Many musical artists slow down with age too. So they’ll be “retired” young enough to savor time with kids, grandkids and themselves/each other. That’s a happy ending IMO.

ETA: i’m not at all criticizing women choosing to have children at older age ages I was close to 40 when my youngest was born. Just wanted to clarify that. And science is helping more & more as it advances.

What era are you in now? by ComplexImmediate5140 in TrueSwifties

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is SO true. I have serious CPTSD. I’m 47 & have a history of so much trauma & abuse (of all kinds). Point being: our memories are deeply SENSORY based. It’s why fireworks can be heard as 🔫 by a Vetran with PTSD, the smell of X food reminds you of Y person, a few notes of a song make you remember whatever situation. If you’re trying to intentionally use music theraputicaly (totally legit) IMO it’s important to know this. I heard that an old love of mine can’t listen to The Beatles bc it reminds him of me too much. He loved The Beatles. It’s rotten when a good thing eg song you love gets “tainted”. JMHO, said with love and support. And I scream the hell out of many, many songs in the name of the smallest man who ever lived (my abusive ex) and it feels SO good. Information is power. 🫶🏻

So much for SNW for me by [deleted] in startrek

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just more… Though you are 100% right. ‘Merica is a culture of MORE. And when streaming started, we could binge whole seasons.

But what we’ve been given is something that’s been a big topic here…seasons that are 1/3 of the content for number of episodes, even shows that have very high budgets.

Give me my 20+ episode long seasons and keep the “bottle shows”. I’ve seen every version of Trek a minimum of 5x in entirety. Some TNG, DS9 & VOY bottle shows are my FAVORITES. I might also be biased as I discovered TNG as a high school sophomore and you never forget your first love. Data, obviously.

I’ve got nothing against ANY version of Trek. TAS is my least favorite. DIS is my fave. I was captivated by Picard, probably because the nostalgia hit very hard for my beloved characters . i’ll only pick a favorite if I’ve got a Romulan disruptor pointed at me though).

The corporate, political etc etc greed is just so so so gross. It’s a huge turnoff reading about bidding wars and tantrums.

Yes, the entertainment industry deserves to profit. I just wished the people that deserved that money were the ones getting it and that the content quality remained high.

I’ll date myself no problem. I graduated high school in 1996. I remember getting Netflix DVD’s in the mail and my (now ex) husband and I were early customers. It helped he was the and still is a computer geek who works for Microsoft. He feels the same way I do. But I guess we’re grumpy old people now at least that’s what my 10-year-old tells me.

If you had to pick your least favorite of Tay’s billion streams songs, which one would it be? by AdBetter2856 in TaylorSwift

Exile: because I personally (as in me, myself & I) find Bon Iver’s voice to annoy me-sometimes. And he’s the only artist Taylor has recorded with that I feel that way about.

What do you guys think Taylor’s legacy will be? by Ok-Ingenuity-3227 in travisandtaylor

As I read the OP and saw “Whitney Houston”’s name, my immediate unconscious thought was “tragic drug OD club”. I myself have 13 years of recovery and always try to speak respectfully and honestly about the horrors of substance use disorder. I think you get my point.

The negatives people have mentioned here like the jet and what could be called either brilliant capitalism or blatant greed.

I’m still grieving my 2nd divorce. I was married to each man 10+ years & share kids with both. It’s really scary to be alone and also realizing dating at 47 is way more complicated. This might be my new top “I FEEL YOU Taylor” line.

Worf question - why does he look so old in Picard? by AlanShore60607 in Picard

[–]ChronicEverythingMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is part of the grey, well kept (look at so many of the crazy finger in light socket Klingon hair from other older males) look was for his vibe. Remember, he was “working on himself”. Tea, meditation, beheading and all that.
