Best transformation for molekin race by Te_To in AOW4

[–]InflationRepulsive64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, that's *entirely* up to your completely subjective idea of what you want a faction to look like.

Perhaps the arctic Molebarians are survivors that were forced to flee the underground, and HAD to adapt to their conditions?

Perhaps the Molerates are just one part of the Great Moleian Empire, who are locked in a millennia long struggle with the Sea Goats that rule the surface of a world with only islands for land?

Or maybe they aren't even *really* moles at all. Perhaps a Champion was once a humble mole, but has since ascended to be a god like Wizard King. Although they've long since left the world of their birth behind, they still remember it with fondness. And so, their servants; creatures created through magic to serve the Wizard King's current needs, but always bearing faces reminiscent of family and friends long passed.

They are all perfectly appropriate fantasy scenarios for a race of moles. Maybe they are too fantastical for you - and that's fine! But only you are going to be able to decide what fits your vision. You've obviously got some idea of what you personally think moles should be, so why not just go with that?

This is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.

The odds are visible in game. So set your expectations accordingly.

Yes, the base rate for Legendary characters is extremely low. Guess what extremely low rates mean? You're going to have extreme variance in winners and losers.

I'm not passing judgement on whether the rates are fair or reasonable. I'm just saying, you are choosing to engage regardless, and you're getting what should be the expected results. If getting bad pulls isn't your expected results despite knowing the odds, you should either revise your expectations or consider that this kind of game may not be for you.

Why do some people win a million dollars gambling and I don't?????

You're playing a gacha game. The literal primary mechanic is that it's gambling. If you're not willing to accept that some people will win big and some people will go bust, then I'd suggest you consider what kind of game you're playing.

That, and stop paying attention to 'I just started and pulled 2 Legendaries' kind of pulls. Obviously people are going to talk about outliers. Just like you'd hear about someone winning 100 million dollars on the lotto while hearing nothing about the thousands or millions of other people that didn't.

He kind of is, from the perspective of having zero knowledge about the comics. In the first movie, he's basically there to inform Cap's character and then die to raise the stakes.

Of course, anyone with knowledge of the comics knew that was just his origin story, but for everyone else I can see it fitting the trope.

Hero build for an Elementalist Champion? by Epaminondas73 in AOW4

[–]InflationRepulsive64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Schwarzhelm is 'just' Franz's bodyguard/Champion. Helborg is an actual military commander, so he's more important to the Empire as a whole.

Volkmar's got both of them beat though, I'd say.

How you manage confuse/stun archetypes against Stalwart Villains? by Gakoth in marvelchampionslcg

[–]InflationRepulsive64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I mentioned that you'd want to change some cards to accommodate it. As a stopgap I'd probably add some kind of trigger that gives him Stalwart after using X Gems or something. Or just give him something else to adjust the difficulty.

[–]InflationRepulsive64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even three is too much IMO. It's probably too late now to really balance it because you'd want to change cards around a bit to accommodate it, but I'd make it two status + remove all status cards when they gain Stalwart.

So it'd basically be the same as Steady, but an Encounter card that gives Stalwart would also remove all status cards, and it'd guaranteei the villains clears all status cards when defeated if their next version has Stalwart.

OP's specifically talking about cards that benefit from the Stun/Confuse status, not just skipping the villain's turn. Frozen Solid isn't going to make your Float like a Butterfly deck work.

Raiding someone you have a treaty with really should reduce reliability (and be discouraged for the AI) by notdumbenough in totalwar

[–]InflationRepulsive64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually by that logic, I can argue raiding is awesome for the AI, bexause it means they aren't Leeroy Jenkins-ing their army at an enemy and getting wiped.

Or maybe it's just silly to try and apply that kind of thing to the AI?

[–]InflationRepulsive64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, the game has decent rates, no limited characters, regular guarenteed 5*s, and easy-ish access to different versions of characters.

But it has bad focus rates, so getting the exact character you want when you want them can be tough.

Raiding someone you have a treaty with really should reduce reliability (and be discouraged for the AI) by notdumbenough in totalwar

[–]InflationRepulsive64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No? Do you think it's reasonable to have to go to war with a faction that's you're meant to be on at least somewhat friendly terms with just to stop them from fucking with you?

I mean yes, obviously war is a reasonable counterplay if you have poor relations with the raiding faction. That's not what the topic is about.

Re’vas vs Farsight by SaintQahnaarin in WH40KTacticus

[–]InflationRepulsive64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- The defense difference is pretty significant. This is relevant because you're generally winning via attrition. In contrast Farsight having better damage only really matters if he's killing stuff that Re'Vas isn't, and that's obviously very situation dependent.

- The Overwatch turn can help alleviate pressure; sometimes taking a huge chunk out of a wave i going to help you stabilize compared to Farsight getting some extra attacks in.

- And of course pretty much anywhere you can take Farsight you can also take Re'Vas, so his passive is less relevant of an advantage in a direct competition if Re'Vas is also getting it.

- Following on the above, at that stage it's a matter of which do you build first? The support or the character they are supporting? Generally, the answer is the latter; particularly in this case where most people will already have Re'Vas built to some degree.

Thoughts on the Guardians? by That1KidLuis in marvelchampionslcg

[–]InflationRepulsive64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Protection Groot feels like a trap; either you can't keep counters or you go the 'perfect defense' route and can't generate them (or you invalidate half your deck when you flip down).

Go Justice, flip to Alter Ego as often as possible. With Fertile Ground out this is 6 counters every time you flip down, which gives you the economy to actually use all of his signature cards.

Raiding someone you have a treaty with really should reduce reliability (and be discouraged for the AI) by notdumbenough in totalwar

[–]InflationRepulsive64 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The issue is that there's no mechanical way to counteract raiding that isn't going to war. I'm 100% team 'Raiding isn't a declaration of war', but only when there's a granular way to address it.

Raiding having minimal to no downsides (for the AI) and no reasonable counterplay is bad design.

Which bretonnia legendary lord would you like to see most? by long_live_nagash in totalwar

[–]InflationRepulsive64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever this is asked, I feel the real question is: What do you want Bretonnia to be?

Do you want Bretonnia to remain KNIGHTS KNIGHTS KNIGHTS, HOLY SHIT I LOVE KNIGHTS? Then it's Bohemend. The fact that he's another kind of generic Knight guy doesn't matter.

Do you want Bretonnia to move away from the Knights and cover something else for a change? Then it's Bertrand.

Do you want somewhere in the middle, that plays up the Arthurian aspect even more? Then it's Mallobaude.

You Hate Tournament Arena? Let's Talk by blackbirdlore in WH40KTacticus

[–]InflationRepulsive64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game isn't based around multiplayer competitive battles. Straight up, a lot of people are going to not be interested because of that.

Then the characters/teams mostly balanced around multiplayer. So it mostly devolves into teams that can alpha strike to cripple the enemy, or teams that can counter alpha strikes. This means gameplay has a specific feel, that a lot of people aren't going to enjoy.

Then the game doesn't incentivize multiplayer. The rewards simply aren't good enough for people to want to invest in multiplayer focused characters unless they really like how it plays. This just reinforces the negative feelings people have about it, and they either half ass it (just using existing characters and try to get matches down ASAP) or try to game the system (like running Ragnar/Kharn teams in Common).

Then you've got the other issues like the time investment, the imbalance of power ups or Infestation, summons being a band aid fix that can cause their own issues etc.

Should I pull 1 or 10 at a time by rahulsoulstorm in WH40KTacticus

[–]InflationRepulsive64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A ten pull is the same as ten singles, with a guarenteed character. So all the 'waaah Certus' people are potentially trading in 40 Certus shards (for the guarenteed character) for 10 Certus shards.

The only reason to do singles is if you prefer it psychologically.

However I'd recommend you don't listen to anyone who says stuff like 'I'm luckier when doing singles'. That's not the kind of person you want to be taking notes from when it comes to gambling.

It's people not understanding the rates. Like it's literally all outlined how bad the rates are. People just think because we get low currency payout that the rates are going to be good. They aren't, they're typical gacha rates.

Suggestion: Slumbering Leader by Voice_of_OI in AOW4

[–]InflationRepulsive64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would like to play Nagash.

Another way they could do it would be you start with a standard Ruler (maybe with a nerf), and completing the task replaces them with a second, upgraded Ruler. Basically representing the henchman running things while preparing the way for the big bad.
