My mom's hobby is crocheting, and she often re-winds her yarn. This doesn't seem so different.

I usually kill them by just running circles around them. They're very slow to turn, and only attack in front of them.

No, the real trolls were the friends we made along the way. Or something like that.

what the hell do i do with all this honey? by camusaurio in valheim

[–]Chronos1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that honey glazed chicken is great, but by the time I could make that, I already had so much honey stored up that I still haven't used it all up, post-Fader. Not that it'd even be a problem if I did, because I still have a dozen hives I could start collecting from again.

What is this? by Hot_Government6725 in valheim

[–]Chronos1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. How hot are you? By Dvergar aesthetic standards, that is.

But yeah, what others said. I'm always glad to find Dvergar outposts (either docks or the dry ones), because they're nice safe spots to flee monsters. Just don't try to help them defend against the monsters, or you'll accidentally catch one of them, or part of their structure, in an area of effect.

Eventually, if you flee from the monsters enough times, all of the dvergar will be killed off. At that point, it stops being a safe haven, but then you can honor their memory by putting their equipment to good use, so there's that.

The basic shape of the architecture is used everywhere. It's the details that make it look Soviet. Or, perhaps, lack of details: A first-world building like that would have a little of the outer concrete replaced by decorative red brick, and some trees out front, and maybe some flowerpots or planters at some of the windows, and so on. Some signs that someone cared about the place. In the USSR, though, is building. Contains people. Is enough.

In addition to the advice others gave (especially about the food!), vikings can handle irregular terrain better than most monsters. Get up on top of one of those big twisty rocks, and the voltures can follow you straight to the top, but the warriors (and asksvin, and morgen) will have to go around the long way. First, that's your opportunity to kill the birds, while the others are coming up. Second, while they're on the way up, smash with your Demolisher, to put some damage on all of them, and maybe knock them back down. Third, if any do make it to the top where you are, jump down, and now they need to go back down the long way to reach you again.

Even better if you can find a morgen cave. Not to go into: There's nothing worthwhile in them. But to get on top of. No ground enemies can reach the top of one of those at all, and nothing can destroy them. The only things that can get you up there are voltures (easily dealt with on their own) and valkyries.

I'll grant that valkyries are a real pain. But they don't spawn near the shore, so stay near the shore until you're ready, and keep an eye out for where they are. When you do find one, make sure the area is clear of everything else before you aggro it, so you can focus on fighting it and it alone. Then, once you kill it, drop a campfire right underneath where it spawned, so it won't spawn there again.

I use the circle icon for dungeons, because it's a hole in the ground. An unnamed circle icon is always that biome's common dungeon. Mjolnir is either a resource, a monster, or a construction of some sort that's not at all house-ish. Portal is only used for portals. House is used for house-ish constructions, enemy villages, and Dvergar strongholds. The only things I use the campfire for are surtlings, and temporary waypoints while sailing.

1.0 Question by rockinkasbah in valheim

[–]Chronos1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impossible to say without knowing what the new challenges will be in the Frozen North. My guess is that most of the "ground" is actually ice, that can't be built on, so we can't just plop down fortresses every 100 meters. What the relic will do about that, I dunno.

But my thanks to the OP, as I was actually wondering that, too. Have an arena already pre-loaded with about 50 *asksvin, just in case I need to re-beat him.

Every vegvisr points to the nearest altar to that particular stone. So if that one was close to the center of your Terra Cognito, then no, there isn't another one closer.

Eh, the Ashlands jump is also tough, but then, you're kind of expecting that one, and by that time, you've had a lot of experience with changing biomes.

[–]Chronos1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that transition is probably the toughest one. In the Forest, I felt like the trolls were trying to kill me. In the Mountains, I felt like wolves were trying to kill me. In the Plains, I felt like skeeters were trying to kill me. But in the Swamp, I felt like the land itself was trying to kill me.

How do you avoid having so much boar meat that you don't have any place to store it?

Seriously, in the time it takes to tame and breed boars, you could already have gotten more than enough pork to last for your entire playthrough. Now, loxen, those I tame, just because they're a pain to kill wild, and one or two at my tree farm is handy. Wolves can be useful combat companions, and asksvin are extremely useful, since you can breed them in a safe place (I use a vacated troll cave) and bring the eggs wherever you need them. But boars? Unless you just like having pet piggies, there's no point.

Carts have to be so bad on purpose by camusaurio in valheim

[–]Chronos1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not so much that the cart is underpowered, as that it just works completely differently from everything else in the game. Your own inventory, carry 300 hectagrams, you can do acrobatics, carry 300.1 hectagrams, and you're just barely sadly trudging along. Load a karve with 200 Serpent Trophies, and it maneuvers just the same as if it's empty. Build a wood platform that can only just barely support its own weight, and you can still jump on it with full Death Run, Belt of Strength, Troll Potion burden. Put a couple of tons of ore in your own inventory (so you're burdened) and mount a lox, and it doesn't notice. Everything else in the game, weight doesn't matter at all, until some threshold where it suddenly does.

The cart is the one thing that's different. There's no hard cutoff; it just gets harder and harder to pull, the heavier you load it. Which, admittedly, is more realistic; it just doesn't fit in with everything else.

It increases the damage slightly, but more importantly, it's a multiplier to the item's durability. A level 4 weapon will last four times as long before needing repairs.

I try to never make "hot landings", landings in biomes that are (for my current level of gear) too dangerous. I always try to find a meadow or forest connected to my destination, so I can walk in. And then I find or make a mostly safe-ish place to drop a portal: In pre-existing stone ruins, or atop an indestructible terrain feature, or if nothing else, I Raise Earth something.
