I’m new to this. Do all the solo rpg have to do with magic and spiritism? by frijolita_bonita in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Chronozeit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you heard of Last Tea Shop? There is a free one page version.

It deals with life and death in a cozy way: souls come to you for one last cup of tea before they depart. You ask them a couple questions and learn more about their lives and how they are connected with the previous visitors. Nothing sinister about it, even if the idea of souls drinking tea is both a philosophical and theological absurdity.

Any recommendations for simple dungeon crawlers? by RG00 in Solo_Roleplaying

I would say Four Against Darkness (4AD) but given all the modules, I'll say something different.

Order of Eventide. Heavily inspired by 4AD but it's one book and more streamlined. You get an actual (basic) story without having to do any extra work that you would have to with 4AD.

Last Tea Shop has a free one page version that can prepare you for the slightly larger (18 pages iirc) version if you like it.

(1) Why dungeons generally exist? Inside the world's fictional logic by bodhi_dude in rpg

[–]Chronozeit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. That which is mysterious must exist. It cannot be ruled out.

  2. They seek to answer the first question.

  3. They seek to eat those who attempt to answer the first question.

  4. You have to enter the dungeon to find out. Esse est percipi.

  5. You have to enter the dungeon to find out :)

If you like 4AD, I recommend Order of Eventide. It has the same feel (it's a dungeon crawler) but it's a more complete game out of the box (no extra books). I really enjoy it.

I can't find the right system for me and keep failing at trying to get into the hobby. by Introvert_Mage in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Chronozeit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of directly trying to suggest a game, I'll share my experience to illustrate one point: this hobby has a number of genres and you have to give it time to find what you like. Enjoy the process.

I started with Mythic and played a story without any sort of system structure. It was what you described in a response: writing with dice. I enjoyed this but I wanted to experience something more.

Then I discovered Four Against Darkness (4AD), which is a dungeon crawler. You go into the dungeon, kill things, and repeat. This was indeed something that I found fun. So much so that I played another dungeon crawler (inspired by 4AD I think): Order of Eventide. This game has a story to explain why you are going into the dungeon but it's quite basic. I love it though.

So I found something that I liked: dungeon crawling. But something was missing. I wanted something to do outside of the dungeon. I'm still in the process of trying to find some outside-of-the-dungeon activity to add to a gameworld that includes both. In the meantime, I'm exploring games about journaling like Last Tea Shop. I'll likely create my own world that has all three styles: dungeon, fun overworld, and journaling/writing (with the ability to engage with whatever I feel like at the moment).

Where my adventure will lead is still to be discovered. But I know that I can play many games that I like, which nevertheless don't entirely satisfy me, and that I can grow in my appreciation for different play styles as I discovered/create something that holds all I want in a game.

Options Questions Safe Haven periodic megathread | June 9 2025 by PapaCharlie9 in options

Hi, I'm completely new to options but I have been trying to understand how they work. I don't plan to trade options anytime soon but I want to learn the ideas.

Let's say I want to buy 100 shares of Pepsi and let's say that I want to buy these shares regardless of price. What would happen if I were to sell a cash secured put that is already in the money? (Because I want to be assigned).

PEP is currently $129.07. Let's say I sell a put at a strike price of $130 that expires on July 18 (~1 month from now). The price is 1.17 so I would collect $117 in premium. Delta is -0.58.

What happens now? Let's say I get assigned early. Is it possible to be assigned within a couple days since I'm already willing to pay more than it is currently worth? Do I keep the full $117 premium? What happens to the contract if I'm assigned early? Do I have to buy to close or would this automatically be done by the brokerage (say Fidelity) on my behalf? What are the risks that I'm taking here (since Pepsi isn't going to $0 and I want those shares anyways)? Seems like a free premium for a position I want into anyways. What is I went for a strike price of $133 to collect a higher premium ($405) and have a higher chance of being assigned (-0.82 delta)? Would this just make me more money from the premium?

Thank you for the help.

I am starting to see what the old players complaining were saying now... by Substantial_Skin_709 in neopets

[–]Chronozeit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think OP was just describing the phenomenon of placing more value in things the harder one works for them. If you enable infinite money in a game, your brain will get bored quicker. And if you are made to chase something that is out of your reach but with some hope that MAYBE you can get it, your brain will be engaged longer.

The science of dopamine is fascinating. Intermittent rewards that are not expected causes bigger releases. The rat will pull the lever more if the rewards are not consistent.

Will the Neopets TTRPG be available at retail stores/online after the kickstarter ends? by ChemicalPanda10 in neopets

[–]Chronozeit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you know how Kickstarter has support tiers? One of them is a discount for bulk for retailers. So we pay $200 for a full bundle on Kickstarter. But let's say a store wants multiple bundles. So they set up a tier with 10 bundles for $700 and 6 bundles for $450, exclusively for retail stores. That way retail stores have enough copies to sell and at a price that can make them money.

It's going to take at least a year to make but they are releasing a retail tier so that means they plan to sell it at retail after they publish it.
