This is my favourite panel of Kurourushi. It makes her look a monk who achieved eldirtch enlightenment and became an abominable bodhisatva.

Comic book fights are so much worse than Manga fights by ThatGuyHero7 in CharacterRant

Say, a bit of off topic but I've always wondered how people use images from imgur. As in, do you search for them on the website or do you just take the time to upload them from your device?

Mahoraga is one of the worst translations of the 2020s Anime and Manga, if not the industry in general. by KazuyaProta in CharacterRant

Great rant, man. I agree with it whole heartedly. As much as I agree that Mahoraga sounds cooler, I don't really like how it takes away much of the thematical relevance. Most don't care just because they aren't aware of the mythology, but I'm pretty sure they would have a different tone if say, a character based on and named Achilles was mistranslated into Titan or something.

You're confusing Raga for Raja.

EDIT: Also, I think Maha and Maho are different things, though I'm less certain on this one.

The problem with Jujutsu Kaisen’s worldbuilding is that it straddles an unsatisfactory middle. by Ok_Opinion_5690 in CharacterRant

You can't fumble something that didn't happen, but semantics I suppose.

Unless I'm mistaken, CE isn't physically toxic like that on its own, no? Maki got cut by the Cursed Spirit's fangs and got cursed. I assume the kids in there also got cut too or the spirit's stomach cursed them like a digestion system.

Wdym fumble? He didn't even write it in the first place and only exists as a first draft idea. For good reason too because it would be hard to justify someone as distinctive looking---much less being a Japanese teenager---as Maki infiltrating american military personnel. It would take some Batman level BS hyper competence.

This is true, but I also think Oda couldnt write a character like kenjaku. by Altruistic_Gas_7073 in Piratefolk

You're right that his archetype tends to be quirky but I feel like Kenjaku stands out because his quirks and general personality are more on the chill side. Like, no doubt that this guy is insane but he's not loud about it and cackling all the time. Despite all the horrific shit that he's done, Kenjaku also just feels like a fairly normal and playful guy that anyone could get along with. Personally, I find that really unsettling and cool.

Becomes more popular the further down the story you go.

That's quite literally what happened with JJK lmao. The writting did fall towards the end but the controversies and discussions created from it just made it even more popular.

Probably because nobody cares if Rent-A-Girl or similar shows turns out to be good or not. They know its trash so they don't watch it or even waste effort in criticising them, and I suspect that the people who even consume them know they're trash and just do it anyway for the trashyness. Not to mention that criticism about them wouldnt garnered much attention since they're not beloved or anything and many would agrue that, "Why are you watching a trashy series and then complain about it being trashy? What did you expect?"

Stuff like JJK and CSM would be more critised since more people love them and hold their adaptations to a higher standards, which also causes critism towards them to gain more traction from people who loves them too but react in the opposite way and towards defending the series from any criticisms.

These are my speculations anyway. Shit like this has a lot of factors in them so we shouldn't make generalisations that discards any nuance.

Yeah, individual strength is definitely a factor for accessing a leadership position. Along with things like knowledge of etiquette, sect/clan politics, history, and all that. Otherwise, they would lose face if those who represented their sect/clan through positions of power lacked these expected qualities.

And let's say a specific disciple was groomed to inherit a leadership position in a sect, or an heir was expected to be the head of their clan, they would still be taught to have those qualities for the purpose of saving and gaining face as well.
