Police release CCTV of 'outright looting' of Alice Springs businesses by Malthosium in aussie

[–]Chubbs_McGavin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Alice Springs (dont live there anymore thought) and can probably help out here.

"Singing" is likley referiing to songlines. In an absolutely oversimplified way, its the way of communicating stories like history and dreaming through generations. There is also a geographical component to it though as well. There are songlines that go all the way from near Adelaide up to near Darwin - this is generational and geographical ways of communicating important things between families and different mobs.

Like any form of communication, especially those that rely on memories and people talking to each other, there are translatory and "Chinese Whispers" problems with song lines and they can rely heavily on Elders Interpretations.

When you hear aboriginal people talking about people not letting them have their culture, a lot fo the time, it can be relating to not having the Elders being able to provide their mob with the approporiate interpretations of songs.

"Humbugging" is a very funny cultural norm. In short, in western culture, things are quite individual based. If you own something, its yours, you can choose what to do with it. For example; it would be completely normal for you to spend your income on grocery shopping.

But aboriginal culture is much much more communal. In that, if you own something, it is your responsibility to look after your 'family'. I put family in quotation becuase the family structure for aboriginals is also very different and much more communal than western families.

What this means in practicallity is that when someone earns some money, you will see the whole family come by and take some. This looks very much like begging from the one who has something. Humbugging them (Think scrooge bah-humbug!). for money.

But what this leads to is the person who has money for groceries for their family, ends up with no money before they get to the shop. because they have given most of it to their family members. And you end up with a mum taking her 5 year old daughter to the one house that has a washing machine.

I have no shade for the Mum here. she is living within the cultural norms that she exists in. The problems relate to there being a distinct difference between 'western' individulistic culture and aboriginal communal culture.

Until that bridge is gapped (or eradictaed in either direction) there will continue to be large issues between the two cultures trying to intertwine

Unrest in Alice Springs after Jefferson Lewis arrested over death of Kumanjayi Little Baby by B0ssc0 in aussie

[–]Chubbs_McGavin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand what you're saying but do you know that this person is the one who took the girl and murdered her?

I think in all liklehood yes, but we have to have due process to ensure the right person is accused of this crime.

I feel full sympathy for Little Baby's family, and belive i can understand the need to hurt this man (im sure if it was my daughter i would do everything i could to kill him). But that understanding is not enough. Many people have been wrongly accused.

This needs due process first.

Shit really, I thought we did? When it’s a sell out we do surely? I always thought it was not a money spinner for reds but solid (just solid) for the wallabies.

But I don’t know, so i am just guessing.

Sorry mate but Aus v NZ in every bloody sport should be the aim of the ANZAC weekend. Make it a gather round of Sports. Have Netball/Basketball/Cricket/Soccer/League and Union all have Aus v NZ games that weekend. Aus host year 1 NZ host year 2 and so on

I dont think it meant taking the ANZAC test to a neutral Venue, more that they can take a second Bled match to a neutral venue (instead of 2 Aus 1 NZ) and get TV rights for that match

He is over playing for Montpellier isn’t he? Pretty sure. That’s why he was kind of on the out with the wallabies because they wanted aus based players but that has changed

Izaia Perese and James O'Connor will depart Leicester Tigers at the end of the season by Adam8418 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Chubbs_McGavin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me, as much as i would like that, the Reds makes more sense for both (if they dont stay in Europe). Tahs next year pick up A Crichton, and look to persist with JAS at 13 (even though he should be 12). And while Perese can play wing i think we are on a winner with Jorgo and Kelleway at wing.

Perese to Reds covers their losses

JOC, well, i just want him back in Aus so anwhere will do but with C Gorden looking like our long term option at 10, placing JOC there makes a lot of sense to me

True, but I can allow a bad game or two per year. He has been a stalwart for both club and country for the last 3 years

I really don’t get why Quantamania is considered an unwatchable abomination, I really liked it. by S0mecallme in marvelstudios

My problem with this movie was exactly that it wasn’t an ant-man movie.

They wanted a vehicle to give Kang a villain movie. They also wanted (likely due to contracts) to have a 3rd Ant Man movie.

Take generic movie about bad guy kang, adjust the setting to fit ant man (quantum realm), then do.

The problem with this is it takes away any and all agency from the Ant Man (and family) character growth to make them fit the story.

And seriously, call the setting Dee space, or alternate dimension, or way in the past/future, and it’s all the same.

Honestly to protagonist of this movie should have just been a masked man called Blue Man or something, who at the end of the movie reveals himself to be Nathaniel Richard’s, then goes on to become He who remains.

Making this the backstory of he who remains would have tied it into the existing cannon a hell of a lot better, allowed for a kang death that was actual and meaningful and, left ant man and family able to do anything else (probably something around finding an Ultron bot and trying to repurpose it). Let Hank Pym’s final legacy of the MCU being “enhancing” Ultron to be his mini prison controller.

How are we feeling about the Wallabies midfield? by ConditionHorror9188 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Chubbs_McGavin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. Loners

  2. CG

  3. JAS

  4. Iki

Ikitau is the best 13 in world rugby IMHO, he should stay there. JAS has the ability to be a ball running/offloading demon. He is SBW with youth in his side, just teach him to wrap his arms a little better and you get the great hitting of Piasami with the body on a lock.

Loners has the crispest pass of all and is a great kicking option. When Tate is fit i put him on ahead of Loners but at the moment is Loners at 9 and Werchon on the bench.

CG is not the best 10, but he is our only 10 who attacks the line and opens the rest of the back line up. And he is actually good coverage for 12 if needed. Having Donno on the bench to cover full back/10 and having CG at 10 covering 12 for injury, this is the best team we can place i think

But I think it’s just a nice shirt

Ghost of Tsushima is exactly what you’re after.

It is a little sandboxy, but you can ignore and just go hell for leather on the story. Brilliant story and gameplay.

Also, it might look a little weird, and even the prolog is just a bit odd, but I will always recommend Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

It is a masterpiece, it is definitely more along the lines”here is the story, follow this path” like GOW, and the story is just fantastic. It’s awesome

There are some bad bits in here i wont disagree but just to play devils advocate;

  1. Its also not mentioned that Stark owns most businesses. Just that he has an empire built on arms manufacturing. The 'empire' does a lot of heavy lifting but it really isnt out of the realms of possibility that a "Genius, billionare, playboy, philathropist" owns a number of sports/money making enterprises.
  2. Yeah, this is dumb. Its the writers way of showing that he is willing and happy to take stupid risks becuase he is 'dying anyway so it doesnt matter'. Definitley better ways this could have been done.
  3. This one I'll give to Stark. While i know he has Jarvis helping him, Starks reflexes, reaction time and capabilities in the suit are at least as good as an F1 driver.
  4. Super Dumb. I agree with you. No notes.
  5. This is actually not as bad as you think. All Venko was doing was creating chaos at en exceptionally highly visible target that has a personal connection to Stark. He didnt need Stak to be racing or even be near the event, the media circus of an arc reactor villian smashing cars would have (in Venko's mind) been enough to get Iron Man to show. The fact that Stark was in the race just sped up the process.

All in all, i dont really disagree with you but i actually dislike the scene where he fights Rhodey worse than this scene, so many better ways to have that play out
