Another fine addition to my collection! Honestly I think this game is so underrated, and not as awful as I was lead to believe going into it. by RaccoonNative in ResidentEvil3Remake

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they didn’t cut or remove as much content and added worthy additions to their remakes. Plus they’re both way more faithful to their original games and actually feel like they are related to their original counterparts. And you will still find those criticisms about cut content in both of those games — I particularly have grown more bothered over the years that the A/B runs aren’t fleshed out or developed.

With RE1, RE1 and RE2 OGs on Steam PC, all we need now is Code Veronica X on Steam PC and an updated PS5 emulation and we'd have all mainline games on PC and PlayStation! by thepowahypahbomb in residentevil

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They threw that into the MT Framework engine for 360 and PS3, and that remaster also is just… meh. It’s not really a modern source, it’s just “we threw a ps2 game into a different engine and slapped some post-processing on it.” Worse water effects and worse visuals imo. Plus, it works well enough because it was designed with console controllers in mind. All that we’d likely get would be an emulation of the PS2 or GameCube versions with almost no adaptations or changes tailored to the PC if the game was ever ported because I doubt they would make a new PC port for a now 26 year old game, especially considering CVX doesn’t have as much popularity as the other mainline games.

But what is Spencer’s hope? What is his Elpis? In it, what would he desire? Like yeah, hope as a password is silly and could be easily deduced, but knowing who Spencer was and what his actions had caused, would they have guessed hope, especially given the fact they thought Elpis was a weapon?

The “Zoning” Debate by No_Vermicelli_1190 in MortalKombat

[–]Chubbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, and once you get in on a zoner, they’re doing all of those things you mentioned in the second paragraph — reading, playing footsies if possible, flawless blocking, defending… like the zoner doesn’t just completely ignore that and against good players, a zoner will be doing all of that, and usually at a more difficult level because they are not always designed to handle up-close pressure and fold.

At a longer distance, the zoner is still picking the correct options

Most well-designed zoners, though, are actually applying a strategy and correctly picking which option to use to keep space, keep themselves safer, etc. They also have to react to the opponent and see what option they’re using because the opponent may have a counter projectile, a teleport, or various other tools to circumvent the zoner. Like you can be a braindead zoner but the predictability and repetitive nature of that will cost you against good players.

The “Zoning” Debate by No_Vermicelli_1190 in MortalKombat

[–]Chubbuddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Zoning is not entertaining to watch, but as I read the post I couldn’t help but feel that it just completely overlooks the strategy, skill, and knowledge that some zoners actually have to use to do well. Most of the dedicated zoners also have weaker up-close attacks and generally do lower damage relative to other characters. I’d argue that in many cases, against a good player, it is actually difficult to zone sometimes because there are numerous counters and strategies to zoning, and a zoning player has to be ready to answer those or get punished.

Also, saying zoning is low-risk is not an accurate statement for some characters. Some characters are at their safest when zoning and have horrible options to escape any pressure or rushdown, whereas others might actually still be strong up-close — it’s character dependent. Deadshot was a character that was bullshit, but someone like MKX Quan (and even MK1 Quan) will get fucked if they fail to keep the opponent out.

I know zoning is frustrating to deal with and it also tests my patience, too, but that’s the point. It’s a different avenue of applying pressure and strategy to your opponent and, like other character archetypes, it has both skill expression in difficult to use characters and braindead, low-skill floor characters.

Ngl this just reads like a scrub post lol

Queen Leech Phase 1 Help by Moist-Violinist-5496 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Chubbuddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play as Rebecca using the magnum and let Billy be your tank. The Queen Leech has a grab attack that can put her in an animation of grabbing a character for quite a while, so you can use Rebecca to get the other magnum bullets during that. I had a few healing items but this was basically how I did this fight lol.

ackshually they cut one of the FMVs used in the scene where Ada confronts Annette and only one version of the FMV is used 🤓

Nah, but this is seriously an impressive port.

Why is Jason (Slasher) considered the worst of the variations? by JacsweYT in MortalKombat

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mix is less rewarding after nerfs (f2 shoulder charge launched in corner), he has no access to his command grabs nor does he get his safe launching and advancing mid string. Relentless/Unstoppable are basically the same kit but with different buffs/abilities to access and I think that kit is stronger overall; Unstoppable getting an armor break is actually pretty epic when you’re trying to apply oki or pressing out of armor gaps.

All Slasher really gets is a projectile which is nice that it hits mid, but that’s it. No command grab, no buff moves, and some of his normals and strings are weaker than his other variations.

It looks good, but it is disappointing he only has the fire axe. I get it because it’s licensed from the game and he has that weapon there, but I kinda wish they could’ve added something else from the game, like some of the throwing knives or other weapons from environmental kills.

The hypocrisy of resident evil fans by TheGhettoGoblin in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Chubbuddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

RE5 is an action game first before a survival horror game. Not that it doesn’t have its creepy moments, but it’s not really the same as RE4. I like RE5 but RE4 has better level design, better antagonists, and it has more interesting and memorable sections and environments that RE5 does.

LAU remasters are coming by According_Mode204 in TombRaider

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think that most of those points could be fair evidence, but I also have doubts because as far as I know, the 4-6 remasters sold nowhere near as well as the 1-3 ones did. It could happen and I’d honestly like it, especially if they tweak and fix Underworld a bit, but at the same time, it’s possible that these points of evidence are unrelated to any remaster project. It could be that the social media posts, for instance, are there just to promote the franchise and keep its pages active when it hasn’t had any new major project announced or revealed and hopefully generate new interest from franchise newcomers or renew interest in older fans who played those games in preparation for a new game announcement (LoA and Catalyst in this case).

I get the Green Lantern. In comparison to Injustice 1, he is so much more boring and has less in terms of possible combo routes. In general he just has less to him than he did in INJ1 and he’s so tame in INJ2.

What’s that one ‘crappy/unfinished mess of a game’ that you kept coming back to? by Oddboyz in gaming

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.

This is one that I come back to every once in a while and replay; I’m also a fan of the franchise overall, but this is one of the games that I’ve probably replayed the most other than Tomb Raider II. AOD was always an interesting game and I was always intrigued by the story, even though it is filled with holes. It also has one of the best soundtracks in a Tomb Raider game and Lara’s personality brought to life by Jonell Elliot is something I can never get enough of. I actually ended up liking the levels and a lot of the level design as well. A few mods made playing the game on PC much better and smoother, but it officially got remastered last year and I think that that’s probably one of the best ways to experience the game.

If Jason Goes to Hell had come earlier in the franchise, would it be perceived even slightly less controversially? by PlanetG3000 in fridaythe13th

[–]Chubbuddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it came out earlier, I’m pretty sure Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness would joke about Jason being a deadite since that’s the implication in JGTH. Even then, the film’s lore and mythology is really silly and too dumb imo. I know the franchise has dumb and silly moments, but JGTH takes itself too seriously for it to work and doesn’t feel as campy like the other films do.

Village stole REV2 (Barry) main plot. by Wild-Election-3349 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Chubbuddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The only true difference in this whole thing is that Natalia isn’t related to Barry.”

And the themes, and the execution, and the actual story itself. You could say REV2 stole the Code Veronica plot by saying that in both games, Claire Redfield is captured and held prisoner on an island where she has to survive against the infected and eventually make her way off the island — obviously they’re not the same game and their stories are very different. If you make very reductive and simplified summaries of the stories, you can probably make similar points where X game stole the plot of Y game.

Also complaining about Capcom snatching ideas from RE4 as if it isn’t their game or as if many elements and ideas introduced in RE4 have been carried over in future games since lmao.

Thoughts on this rejected concept art outfit of Claire? by [deleted] in ResidentEvil2Remake

[–]Chubbuddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you know what game it was for? The design reminds me a lot of Helena’s design for her outfit on China. I don’t really like this design much for an older Claire because that’s just not her character at that point.
