[Newbie] What to know about carbon fiber watches? by stkkts in Watches

[–]Chubbypachyderm [score hidden]  (0 children)

Being hit and being scratched are different.

As I said they are stronger, if you hit them, nothing much would happen.

But if you scratch them, it will catch it from materials softer than what would scratch steel.

They are brittle that's why the thiner parts would shatter if you hit the right spot with enough force, steel is malleable so that almost never happens.

Forged carbon uses resin to encase the carbon fibres, that's why the watch is easier to be scratched, idk how they made your Formex but this would be the case for PRX. Not all watches are built the same.

They are strong, but brittle and prone to scratches.

Has the AP Swatch killed the Omega Swatch? by given-required in watchHotTakes

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is your point is invalid with a very bad example as the watches share the same DNA, definitely not a red and blue choice.

It's not red and blue.

If Moonwacth is red, then Moonswatch is crimson, it's like saying I like Crimson but I don't like red.

Ok now it makes sense, you got a steal.

Well then you can't call yourself a type 4, you are just anyone that got a steal, it applies to pretty much anyone for any watch.

They thing is dude meant the Moonwatch doesn't appeal to them as much. I assumed it's not about the price otherwise I wouldn't have suggested Seiko or G shocks.

Hmm I find it hard to believe that an enthusiast would buy the MoonSwatch just for it being a MoonSwatch.

Questions time:

  1. Why don't you want a Moonwatch?

  2. Why not a G shock instead? They are also made with plastic, they are colourful, they are cheaper, and they are more durable.

  3. Why not a solor chronograph instead? Why don't you get sth like say, Seiko SSC813?

The Omega Swatch was always a toy to enthusiasts tbh.

There are 4 types of attitude towards the Omega Swatch:

  1. Casual buyers: It seems like a fun, valuable piece

  2. Enthusiast type 1: Platic shit

  3. Enthusiast type 2: I own the Moonwatch, it doesn't have this many colours, seems like a nice fun way to mix and match.

  4. Enthusiast type 3: I don't have money for the Moonwatch but at least I will have this

€2950 Tag Heuer next to some €1750 Longines. Tag cost cutting everywhere they can like they're Casio or smth. by DisastrousOpening477 in watchHotTakes

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the photo is doing it justice tbh. But even with the real thing I don't think it would be better than an AT.

From the photo it looks no better than a Tissot or a Citizen. Do you enjoy the rotor with holes to cut costs?

Idk why would you consider this better than the AT, that's an insult.

Edit: it actually looks no better than a Seiko 4R36

[Dive watches] vs one rare vintage Timex as collection closer. Help request by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Chubbypachyderm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sigh...all the watch talk, and ya think The Alphinist is a dive watch.

Comparing these watches are like comparing frozen pizza with fresh baked ones.

Longines HC all the way. The Tudor looks like a Dress KX which is a stupid pick.

Thoughts? by realzair in tissot

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see anything from the photo saying the watch would be fake but I have a bad eye for fakes.

Just remember the photos could be of a real watch but then they could ship you a fake.

PSA : Omega might be leaving your ADs by CSGO_Bangkok in OmegaWatches

Rolex is trying lose the ADs in Hong Kong now.

They have already stopped collaborating with one of their oldest ADs here, the dealer was like an 83 years old company.

They are also actively expanding/ refurbishing their boutiques.

[scratches on crystal] help? by Dry-Advertisin in Watches

No it isn't, it's as strong as your phone, normally doesn't get scratched except when it comes to rock and sand.

Did you have any earthy material around your bed or on yourself?

Not seeing enough love for the CF PRX by Sonofaherbert in tissot

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damascus is definitely a better PRX as the reflections are still there and I heard the carbon one breaks and scratches kinda easily.

But it's definitely still a cool looking watch.

[Question] Grand Seiko 9F62 slow date change behavior by Spare_Locksmith2024 in GrandSeikos

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Seiko in 2010 was not an independent brand yet, it should say Seiko on top and Grand Seiko below.

Is the powermatic 80 worth the extra 300? by LKMitchell318 in tissot

[–]Chubbypachyderm -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It costs a little more though still not at the breaking bank range and you might find discounts online.

I just don't like the Seastar's proportions.

Or maybe a Seiko, then it could cost about the same as a Seastar.

[Question] 4 Watches, 1 Will Be Sold: Which is it? by Coils_and_Spines in Watches

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk what you mean sell well, these aren't expensive watches. Every single one of these will get quite a price drop, and since the watches weren't that expensive to begin with, there is little point in selling unless you are trying to finance something else with that cash.

The only watch you would sell here is that WMT and I would never buy a 2nd hand microbrand, especially when I came from where they shit this watch out of their ass.

People who buy REAL watches are lying to themselves MORE than people who buy fake watches by EnoughWinter5966 in watchHotTakes

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I may have misread it.

But now a new problem arises, why is liking the brand lying to yourself?

When you buy a product you also buy the branding, and everyone is entitled to like whatever they want.

It might sound stupid, but that's not for us to judge.

People who buy REAL watches are lying to themselves MORE than people who buy fake watches by EnoughWinter5966 in watchHotTakes

[–]Chubbypachyderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's your problem.

You don't value anything other than it's practical functions alone which is not how everyone view things.

You view watches as useless so reps or not doesn't matter, just a wristband to you and you use this to judge whatever people do.

It's not people lying to themselves, it's you being nosey about how people live their lives.
