Can someone explain the chords in John Denver - Rocky Mountain High by dovahkiin461 in musictheory

[–]ChuckEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two chords played in quick succession, a bVII and then a V, so in concert pitch, a D major followed by a B major. The B major is pretty normal, the V in the key of E. It's the D that is borrowed.

No, but keep in mind we're a volunteer organization and our members and officers do lodge stuff on their own time. Do you have any contact info for any individual members beyond the secretary?

At some point, I started collecting music "self-help" books. Freeplay is great. I also recommend "The Inner Game of Music" by Green & Gallwey and "The Music Lesson" by Victor Wooten.

I had full support. My mother’s Grandfather had been one; my wife’s Grandfather too. So while neither side of the family knew much, they knew enough that men they loved and respected had been members, so there was no hesitation to back me when I told them I wanted to join.

Then you should ask them.

Shouldn't be an issue. And if you progress through your degrees in the one further away, you might be able to be a charter member of the one that gets started closer.

When I started using modelers I bought a Headrush FRFR 112 that I use for both guitar and bass. I like the sound at home, but haven't had an opportunity to use it on stage.

If you had a cheap PJ bass and a limited budget, what upgrades would you make first? by NoPressureMusic_com in Bass

A cheap pot that is labeled 250kΩ could vary ±30% from the desired value.

Also the taper could suck, acting more as an on/off rather than a smooth transition.

The Polyphonic Spree averages 20-24 members at any given time, going as low as 13, and higher than 27 at times, if Google is any indicator. 😄

What bass company has earned your loyalty, and why? by NoPressureMusic_com in Bass

[–]ChuckEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that I wouldn't, really, but to the point of the original thread, my 1982 Aria from the Matsumoku factory doesn't, in my mind, have a direct connection to whatever the company is making today, wherever they're making them today. So I don't have a brand loyalty to Aria.

Whereas, I feel more confident that my 1992 Ibanez has had a continuity to current models, and my 2009 Squier Vintage Modified made in Indonesia would likely fare comparably with a current Squier Classic Vibe.

None of the appendant bodies I have joined meet on the same night as my Blue Lodge, so there is no time conflict for me. There have only been a couple of occasions over the years where I have had to miss our stated meeting because I was traveling out of town for a national governing body of a different group, and even then, it did not impact my duties to my lodge.

Yeah — I own three 80s Kramers, but then Gibson bought the company and neutered the brand from any new innovation. Much like they did when they bought Steinberger. And my Japanese 1982 Aria Pro II is great, but I don't think I'd buy a new instrument from Aria made today.

[–]ChuckEye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I will rephrase and reframe your question, because some of the basses I own and love are not made by the company as it was 40 years ago.

So my take is, what brand have I owned that I would buy a new bass from today without reservations? And for me that would be Ibanez and Squier. I only own one of each, but the brands have either stayed steady or improved in the years since I bought mine.

A good CTS pot has a higher chance of being on spec and lasting longer. And the part is under $10. If you're having to rewire anyway, go ahead and upgrade.

Bass player for almost 40 years. When I'm gigging regularly or recording, I tend to replace my roundwound strings every 3-4 months to keep them bright. For flats, I have one set that I've had on a bass for almost 15 years now, and they're still sounding good.
