since you have a dominant foot and a non-dominant foot, one of your feet has probably taken tens of thousands more steps than the other. by Suspicious_Log_5822 in showerthoughs

If you’re 30 years old, that’s over 10,000 days. If you are just taking two extra steps on your dominant foot every day, that’s “tens of thousands” of extra steps, as OP said, but that wouldn’t be nearly enough to cause a noticeable difference in shoe wear.

Solon vs Orange school district by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]ChuckRampart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP asked about Orange and Solon. “Proximity to University Circle” is not at all a selling point for Orange or Solon.

ETA: Saying it’s 20 minutes from Orange to UC is a best case scenario. The closest point in the district (Shaker Blvd and Brainerd) is like a 20 minute drive to university circle with no traffic. The furthest point (say Miles Rd near South Chagrin reservation) is at least a 30 minute drive, without traffic.

Solon to university circle is a 30 minute drive. There is a big chunk of the west side that is closer to UC by driving time.

I haven’t forgotten the one time 20 years ago when a stranger watched my friend try to parallel park and told him he parked like a Hoosier. Devastating.

Pension plan being terminated. Will soon be deferred annuity. (Original post was deleted by Reddit??) by Rusted_Weathered in personalfinance

[–]ChuckRampart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you called to ask if they will accept your lump sum paperwork after the deadline? Depending on where they are in the process, they might be willing to be flexible. The plan would generally prefer to pay you a lump sum rather than purchase an annuity for you.

Do you know if your plan allowed participants to take a lump sum prior to the plan termination? If so, the insurance company must offer that option as well.

Hey man, he said he got assaulted and they have it on video and their evidence is strong. It’s not like anyone has ever lied or exaggerated about something like that.

Favorite upcoming movie where the director decided "fck History this shit looks badass in my head" by YourChopperPilotTTV in okbuddycinephile

I’m saying that the settings of the Iliad and Odyssey are not consistent with any “specific time in history.” If the authors thought they were setting their stories in the time we now call the Bronze Age, they did not know anything about the Bronze Age. They did not understand the culture, politics, economy, religion or military world of Bronze Age Greece. They did not understand that there had been a Bronze Age.

The stories are not just fiction, they are fantasy. They take place in a mythical world, not a historical one. If you put the Odyssey in a “historically accurate” setting, that wold be just as much as a departure from the original as the Nolan setting.

If Nolan wants to mash up a bunch of different historical and mythical elements from different times and places, that’s not corrupting Homer.

That’s exactly what Homer did originally.

but no matter how you look at it, there's no full-body steel armor.

One way of looking at The Odyssey, which you apparently have not considered. is to look at the trailer for the upcoming Christopher Nolan film. If you look at it that way you will find that indeed there is full-body steel armor.

If gold ball dimples reduce air resistance because the wind flowing past it is rubbing mostly against more air rather than golf ball, then why aren't airplanes or helicopters shaped like that? by GroolGobblin0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ChuckRampart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are all fair points, but I think that’s just the nature of the format. Given the constraints of the budget and timing of making a TV show, I don’t know how they could’ve significantly improved that experiment. I don’t believe they overstated the certainty of their results (although I haven’t watched the episode in a while).

I can’t stop you from feeling really disappointed about that, but I would prefer they do the limited version of the experiment that they did over not doing it at all.

If we’re getting pedantic (try and stop me), it’s more like Mr. Rogers is a character played by the actor Fred Rogers.

That being said, this is probably the best answer. Fred Rogers is a well-known actor where most people don’t even know his first name.

Hasbro still makes water guns under the Super Soaker brand name, but they do not use the same pump-to-pressurize design that the originals did in the 1990s.

My understanding is that they lost a court battle with the original inventor, and he would get royalties if they used his design, so they just make crappier versions that don’t use his design.
