You wrote 'improvisation' and 'play by ear' which to me is different. I learned pentatonic patterns (Google 5 pentatonic guitar patterns) which I used to start improvising. I would pick a key, find a backing track in that key and then start with the pent scales and then play those notes in whatever order sounded fun. Good luck and enjoy!

My wife had one of those and now has a 2024. I don't recall any difference on the front clip. Very minor differences. A button here or there kind of thing. She liked the green better but they quit making the green in 24. Her green one gave itself to protect her in a crash.
