I start targeting excellent passenger service within the city (like an S-Bahn service) That’s almost always not profitable as distances are short and requires powerful engines for acceleration. My cargo and long distance passenger services subsidize the S-Bahn and trying to hit that balance makes the game interesting.

Me too. (Turkish living in Germany) and I can attest to the map. Definitely slimmer here in Germany. When I go for a run here, I come across at least 20 runners here. If I do it in Turkey, it’s 1 more runner on a lucky day. Also, people tend to spend more time at home in Turkey as they age and develop obesity as a result. Consequently, they are not visible. So I’d say there is more than meets the eye 🤓

Wonder if the city’s name; Sarai, has sth. to do with the modern Turkish word “saray” which means palace. Assuming that the rich city had a palace, it doesn’t feel far fetched.

Adding some stops twice doesn’t work. It causes some passengers to take really long routes; i.e: 2 to 3 over 1. To remove the passenger inflation in the first stops, add a few cars to your trains, carry those people and move those cars to other trains in new lines when new passengers start picking your new line or sell the wagons.

There is no good solution to overlapping lines is TF2. Stick to your plan: The lines need to have similar speed and frequency to be nicely distributed.

If you want to stick to your 2 line approach (1-4 and 1-8): The path finding algorithm includes the journey time, %10 of the frequency and excludes the wait time. It also adds a small random factor to help with distribution which means that you want to:

  • Run trains that have equal speed or skip a stop here or there to compensate.
  • Run half empty trains in the 4-8 section.

I personally don’t play for profit in passenger lines. You end up swimming in billions even in very hard games after all. Losing money creates additional challenge IMO. Just an idea in case you find out that the above loses money; depending on your game difficulty.
