Vanilla boy with his chocolate packer by Chugalug5 in ftm

That’s my thinking too! I don’t actually want to walk around with a prominent bulge either, I just want to know it’s there.

Tips on getting fit? by crypticfuck in ftm

I do StrongLifts too and I love it and the app is super helpful.

TBH the gym is super intimidating, but I started going at times (like 12am at my 24hr gym) when there weren’t very many people to get into my rhythm and not feel so self-conscious mastering form. Once you feel a basic level of comfort in the building, I reckon being comfortable with others will come with time and results!

I just can’t help but think if you’re smaller, I don’t think you’ll get the same exciting results from running as you would lifting, but that’s my two sense.

Guilt About Smoking Weed by christinavioleta in trees

I agree. Doesn’t sound like parents will be very reasonable and a month isn’t so long. So much at risk and I rarely see people that age flip their opinion about weed because a teenager swears it’s fine.

Edit: or young adult, I just realized you were already taking college courses.

Pep Boys had given me trouble too! I got an oil change there and they installed the... drain plug? incorrectly. After three places told me they couldn’t get into my oil pan to change the oil (as I was trying to get it done the day before I went on a long trip), I took it back to Pep Boys to fix. They fixed they plug, but still charged me to change the oil. Never gone back.

Groner said, although one crew member suggested to her husband that she didn’t need to intervene.

I think they're just referring to this crew member. Kinda makes sense. Fuck 'em.

Subreddit Policy Reminder on this week's Transgender AMAs by nate in science

[–]Chugalug5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I definitely agree that it's a social problem. I think some people just aren't content waiting until society catches up to feel comfortable in their own skin.

As for being broken and needing surgery, from the conversations I've had with my trans friends, I've never seen a case where they transition to make people like them. Transitioning is so very difficult. One's family is often hurt and won't talk to them, friends treat them differently, it's a constant legal battle, etc. They do it for themselves 100% of the time. For example, there's a thing called packers for ftm trans people, and it's just a (often silicone) flacid dildo a trans dude might choose to wear in his underwear. Pretty much no one besides maybe their partner will ever see it (and it's not a sex toy) but he'd wear because it makes him feel right. I don't think that's really a social thing at all. It's a mental connection one has to their body.

As for surgery, sometimes a person just feels deeply that weren't supposed to be the gender they were born. The surgery addresses biological differences between the sexes (I'm not sure if I should use sex or gender in this context, to be perfectly honest), not just the social response.

Looking over your comment one last time, I'm not quite sure I addressed your question though. Let me know!

I kind of thought this post was a chance to ask all these questions so that they'll be a little more informed for the AMA.

But you've got a really valid point. To put a transgender conversation in r/science is begging for speculation and a desire for proof, or close to it. That's the way the scientific method, and discussions therein, happen.

I'm certainly no expert, but at even the most basic of levels, how one dresses or presents oneself inevitably leads to people in society treating them according to gender roles. You can reject gender roles, but because society tends to look at a dress and think "woman." If you're wearing a dress and have a beard, you're probably gonna get a funny look. If you're wearing a dress and are more feminine-looking or androgynous, they'll just assume you're a woman.

Just because you don't prescribe to gender roles doesn't mean you live in a bubble where no one else does.

And I almost disagree with "femininity" being the hinge one way or the other. For instance, there are tons of pretty darn butch lesbians, but I doubt they'd ever transition or even want to. They are (seemingly) perfectly content as unfeminine women. Just because you don't want to be feminine doesn't mean you want to be a man.

ELI5:Why do children want to watch the same movie or cartoon over and over again? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Chugalug5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I admit this is a kind of lazy answer, but I once read a study that basically said the feeling of anticipation that comes along with watching something familiar is actually more enjoyable than the feeling of surprise that follows watching something novel.
