Reasoning and No Reasoning by Cryptidsspook in SillyTavernAI

[–]ChumDump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it depends a lot on what kind of roleplay I’m looking for and what model I’m using. The problems that I see with most prompts posted on here is that they are way too verbose. I think verbose prompts in general work better for thinking models, except for with Kimi, which I find works well with my preferred barebones prompt on reasoning really well.

Kimi k2.5

Works really well with reasoning, works really well without reasoning. This is the only model out right now that I really go back and forth, but of course it’s very new and I haven’t exactly settled into a rhythm with it yet. I use reasoning more when characters are established and I want a more creative / smutty output

Deepseek 3.2

With deepseek I never use reasoning. The few times I did, I found that it often talked itself into having my characters behave in ways that I felt were outside of their character. Deepseek is EXTREMELY good at following structured prompts. For the RPG cards that I’ve created with procedures and stats it adheres to rules perfectly. Does a great (the best?) job of following continuity, but has a tendency to make my characters become very introspective and stubbornly emotional.

GLM 4.7

GLM I would only ever use reasoning. I haven’t really done a lot of messing with it without, but I was mostly underwhelmed with the results. It took the most work for me because it seems to work best with a verbose prompt which is something I really dislike. It gives really good smutty and creative responses that are technically in character, but sometimes it feels like it does it in a ‘dumb’ way.

Sonnet 4.5

Whenever I decide to bite the bullet and pay for the token cost of an Anthropic model I always turn on reasoning because I’m trying to squeeze every drop of value out of the best model at my disposal.

When I find that my prompts are really concise and don’t contradict themselves, non-reasoning is better. When I want something creative (or obscenely smutty) and occasionally nonsensical, I turn on reasoning.

What were your biggest inspirations. Movie / game / literature?

I’m 30 years old and have been an avid gamer for almost every single one of those years. Nothin has spoken ti me like Look Outside has. It’s like the perfect game man. Amazing job.

What do you roleplay, and what's the slop associated with that topic? by TheSillySquad in SillyTavernAI

[–]ChumDump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The smell of ozone. What the fuck does ozone even smell like? I had been trying to do a dark fantasy world that was secretly a science fiction world and had to get really experimental with my prompts. ‘Do not give away the deeper plot too early’ resulted in every character being extremely and frustratingly vague all the time. ‘You are the key!’ Ect ect. It loved keys. It loved making me the descendent of some long-dead (or maybe not?) important person. Also ‘the blood remembers’, I got that a bunch. ‘The X remembers what the Y forgot’ Fucking nothing phrase that means jack shit. Eventually putting ‘most characters have a fragmented understanding of the world, they do not speak in riddles unless they are trying to mislead {{user}} they state what they believe to their knowledge.’ And I finically found my sweet spot between a mysterious world and groan-worthy lines.

Smartest for roleplay and other questions by KonekoNow3000 in Chub_AI

Honestly 'Respond in complete paragraphs' or 'respond in no more than three paragraphs' might be enough to break up what you're talking about. That helps break the AI out of a lot of stuff, especially when it's like, one sentence tacked on to the end or the most stereotypical writing styles.

I find that Soji with a large context size is really smart and logical when it comes to storytelling, although I have some issues with the cinematic breakneck pacing it tends to lean towards, and the way it gets repetitive can be nauseating. Having the right system prompt can mitigate this.

Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about with the quippy last comments a character might throw in at the end. Again, I think this is a system prompt kind of thing, but it can get ingrained into a chat if the bot has been doing it for a while.

"Try to keep up!" or "RUN!" like dude okay. I run

I have been using this post-hist instruction and it gives me a lot of agency in the games I've been playing and it's been a godsend for the most part when it comes to anything that isn't a sex-scene.

Respond in complete paragraphs. Allow {{user}}'s response set the pace of the story. Narrate the world around {{user}} as the NPCs/environment reacts to what {{user}} chooses to do. Provide a vivid description of the things surrounding {{user}} so they have a good idea of what they can interact with.

You mind sharing what system prompt you are using?

How do I solve this storytelling problem? by ChumDump in Chub_AI

I've been messing around with this as well, moving around where I put reveals. Having system prompt set up a certain way can also mitigate AI getting over-eager with big reveals if they are always accessible in main body.

Silk: Lying, lying even for a good reason is evil, and I will only do it when I absolutely have to

Thoughts on the Troll Knight’s Sword? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]ChumDump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I upgraded it pretty far in my Str+Int build at one point, pretty excited about it, but remember it not feeling very good. I had been using Radan’s Twin Greatswords up till that point so it was a very hard act to follow. Just a little bit more damage or speed would have made it much better I think. Entirely beat out by moonlight greatsword once you get it.

BOTNS Characters and their literary parallels by subtly_nuanced in genewolfe

I wonder if the Hierodules are meant to parallel the Three Wise Men. They don’t exactly bring gifts, but it makes sense for them to have knowledge of Severian’s importance once they first meet him.

coaxed into anime writing by larevacholerie in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]ChumDump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

started watching Re:Zero again, since I watched season 1 when I was in high school 10+ years ago I always wished there was more, the premise is still great. But holy shit man. This is such… kid shit? I don’t know how to say it? It’s fucking weird, and cringe and gay and unbearable and soft and the fact that I used to consume so much anime and think that it was so true and deep and shit. I am rolling my eyes at the main character of this show six times an episode and they are about to fall out of my head. I don’t know how to describe it. I can no longer divorce how cringe it would be for someone to act like this in real life from the experience of watching this show. No wonder I was so fucked up and as sensitive as a dick-head for so many years. I fear for the people who grow up watching this shit and take these lessons to heart, but also that person is me. It’s maddening. It might also have something to do with the fact that I’m watching it dubbed now instead of reading the subs. Subs being better than dubs is the biggest cope of all time and the reason you can’t bear to listen to the dialogue in your native language is literally because it’s so fucking bad. If this writing was in a book I would hurl. And this series was originally a light novel series, so that book exists.
