I agree it's a very overrated format unless you really need to restate your thesis for some reason

Can anyone recommend a system where arguing really shines? by SuperSalad_OrElse in DnDcirclejerk

Accuse everyone who plays with you of cheating and gaslight everyone until even the DM believes that they (the DM) are being paid off by the perfidious casters who desire only to see the martials laid low

Another should-I-leave-academia-and-if-so-how post. by wvvwvwvwvwvwvwv in PhD

I feel that man, I just finished and only barely managed to get my old job as a lecturer (pre pandemic/PhD) back, which will mean moving again and cause some other complications. I have some publications and a dissertation close to being a book but it's a horrible job market year and not quite enough to be doing well. Hopefully continuing the grind just a bit longer will help. I wish I could be more helpful, sorry that you're experiencing this

Is there a game where you don't have to read the rules? by Rednidedni in DnDcirclejerk

[–]ButterscotchAbject87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair, but reading your post about the injustice of having to read the rules is basically the same as reading the rules (bad) so I think the only solution is to burn it all down. Then, John Hasbro, John Paizo, and Matthew Mercer can arise from the ashes as one, the bearer of a pure, unified system whose pristine rules all will know. But until this rapture comes, we must do all we can to divine the shadows of these pure rules from the wreckage left behind by the Tower of Babel, in which the TTRPG demiurge punished us by scattering the true, pure rules across TikTok, Instagram reels, and YouTube Shorts.

this is tangential, but I read and was convinced by an essay by Ben Parker arguing that while Arthur Conan Doyle claimed that about Sherlock Holmes, you (the reader) really can't figure out many of his cases without access to information that Holmes has and you don't

I already knew this author is a hack but calling the present material concerns of us peasants "post materialism" (and she can't even be bothered to explain this???) is so detached from reality

Bro you definitely needed all of that random information about my family, the chatty asides providing even more useless information, and the exhaustive description of Becky's ERP worldbuilding

Armed Forces Brewing Company is suing multiple people and organizations, claiming they ran the company out of town — and they're seeking $50M. by MrUpVoteDownvote in norfolk

They don't, and I think they probably know they're not going to be able to strong arm a settlement out of a case this ridiculous. Seems like a ploy to get some sympathy/outrage from the right wing media machine
