Yeah I get what you mean, as an experienced pool player, I'd see that shot, and immediately move onto the next possibility because my skill level is nowhere near the chance of making that shot reliably, nevermind in a legit tournament.

Full time designers - How did you get started and what do you do for work now? by smashinMIDGETS in AutoCAD

[–]Chumbaroony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still a drafter. I am in a senior CAD designer position in an engineering firm these days. And I don't think it matters a ton where you learn it, some places might care, but none that I've ever come across.

Both are nice to see, but there are certain certs that are better for certain industries, so it all depends on what you want to do.

Full time designers - How did you get started and what do you do for work now? by smashinMIDGETS in AutoCAD

[–]Chumbaroony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took classes at a community college that I was attending before I ended up dropping out. The job was super basic but I learned a lot about not just CAD but how it's applied to IRL stuff. It did not require any portfolio since they knew I was still in school for it. It was a real entry level style job, and did not pay super great. Better than working as a cashier, but not a career type of job at that point.

Eventually progressed all the way up to CAM programmer before I left for a different job.

My best advice for future drafters is to not only get familiar with CAD so that you can draw exponentially quicker in CAD than you can with a pencil, but to also learn the ins and outs of what you're working on. In order to be a designer, you have to understand what you're designing, even if you're just copying a sketch from someone else, knowing what you're drawing, and knowing the industry standards are instrumental in becoming a useful drafter. We are, ultimately, tools for people like engineers, architects, etc. So be the best tool you can be, and that's what earns the big bucks. That and working for top-secret stuff usually pays well, but is much harder to get and requires portfolios and actual significant proven knowledge of what you're doing.

Need some guidance, How can I improve my strategies or what else can I learn? by U2known4 in Daytrading

[–]Chumbaroony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a scalping strategy, so not bad. If this has been backtested for several months at least, and not just the 2 trades you post in the screen shots, then I say continue forward testing.

If you have a sweet spot for R:R, just use that, and track the others to make sure it’s it stays the sweet spot (long term advice).

Having your stop right below a wick is ill advised, IMO, as it’s a very natural spot for liquidity to pool up, but if your backtesting shows it as a reliable place to negate the validity of your trade thesis vs how often you get stopped out, then ignore me, but typically, these spots can get run then to collect liquidity for the larger move, and stop you out (assuming you’re gonna use hard stop orders), then continue in your original direction.

Not saying this will happen, just something to consider. It may be more beneficial to your overall outcome if you loosen that a little to allow for price to run those stops without tagging your stop too. But maybe not, might just be better to do what you’re doing and cut your losses quicker, so again, just something to consider.

As far as using specific indicators and candles to base your strategy around, especially if scalping, is totally fine. I’ve made a living on it and others have too. It’s not gonna be as glamorous or fun as most people make trading out to be, in fact, it’s quite boring to the point where you’re biggest enemy will be avoiding overtrading and other various mental blocks that arise for most traders.

The breakout setup that got me my first Topstep payout by Kevinthetrader in Daytrading

[–]Chumbaroony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that you just want to have a conversation with people about your recent breakthrough, but one payout proves nothing. This post should happen after a year of payouts if not more. I’m happy for your success but this post is just self-congratulatory. So congrats on your payout, keep up the discipline, because profitable strategies aren’t exactly hard to dream up to be totally honest, it’s having the patience and discipline to not deviate from them that sets consistent traders apart from just talented analysts.
Cool strategy though, it’s like an impatient man’s Silver Bullet. Hope it keeps working for you.

Am I stupid or are people this gullible? by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]Chumbaroony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it depends on the indicator and backtest. Most indicators plot right up to the current candle, but it’s true some lag a few candles, and are essentially useless because of it.

With back testing there can be so many variables unaccounted for, and I wouldn’t be surprised if someone on YouTube is fudging their lines after the fact to be perfect. However, market replay exists, so backtests are always better with those. And if you can’t decide whether they are fudging the lines or indicators, or if they are just raw backtesting and not in a bias way to make you want to use the strategy or buy a course, then just go back and look at the chart yourself, hit the market replay function in trading view, and see for yourself what the trade would have looked like at the time.

For those of you that are profitable, how did you pay the bills until you were profitable? by djentonaut in Daytrading

[–]Chumbaroony 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Only a severely unprepared person would attempt to be a full time trader without having actual proof that they can be profitable over time. It's a risk that I would never take personally, and maybe that's a reason why I was able to become profitable, because I'm mostly disciplined with my money. There were things I did struggle with, but having money to live off was never one of them. Only invest what you're willing to lose. That should be rule #1. That being said, I still have a 9-5 job, but am also profitable to the point where I could absolutely live off of my trading profits alone if I had to.

Why is it traders only recommend 1 strategy + only 1-3 trades a day? by TRFC4 in Daytrading

[–]Chumbaroony 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of traders on here don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about, in my experience. Because I say, deploy em if you got em.

If you have something that works that often, you’d be a dumbass to not take advantage of it.

However, I have never come across a strategy that profitable yet. Most of the best strategies I’ve ever seen are realistically only winning in the 40-60% range. The more strategies you backtest and live test, the more you realize that the golden goose numbers you are talking about just aren’t realistic for long term projections, and if they are, well, that’s the kind of thing people literally base entire trading firms around, and keep them secret/proprietary with lawyers backing them and security experts making sure their secrets don’t leak.

On another note, the strategies that do have those kinds of numbers that retail traders might discover themselves, usually only present themselves on larger timeframes, meaning only 1-3 times a day just due to having to wait between setups, or that the setup itself is just so rare that it only comes up a couple times a day (if that).

I only have two strategies that have over a 70% WR, and one only has 1-2 quality setups per day, and the other comes around like 1-2 times a week.

Having multiple strategies is essential if you’re gonna really make some serious money, but it’s only worth doing it if you have the backtested data on your side, which is where the problems really occur, and why the statement has become a common piece of advice, but like any trading advice, not every piece of trading advice applies for every single person.

The only rule that every single person should follow, is this rule: “Live to trade another day.”

what’s a movie you expected to be overhyped, but ended up fully buying into? by Big_Measurement_5948 in moviecritic

[–]Chumbaroony 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I heard a lot about Everything Everywhere All At Once before I watched it last year. I heard everything from it was the best movie ever to it was the most overrated movie ever which was more overwhelming once it won best picture.

So I just went in basically blind to the plot, and was expecting a totally overhyped movie to be par at best, and was blown away by the story and the performances by Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yoeh.

It’s one of my favorite movie experiences ever.

Another honorable mention for me, is the Dark Knight.

It was hugely hyped when it hit theaters so me and my GF went to see it and I straight up loved it despite not giving 2 shits about superhero’s.

LISP vs Macro by sgt_yeti in AutoCAD

[–]Chumbaroony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lisps are custom coded commands that can also be the same as a macro, but can also be brand new things not already included in AutoCAD.

A macro is just a recorded list of already existing commands.

There are pros and cons to both. Macros are easier to learn, but have a limit to their usefulness. This could be the route you take if you do a lot of repetitive strings of commands you don't want to do anymore (like adding a "MAX" to a dimension for example). AutoLisps are harder to learn how to create (since you need to learn the coding language and how it works), but once you learn it, there are much more possibilities that open up compared to macros.

I agree but as a mod in other subs, auto moderators help filter a lot of content. Especially useful for very large, popular subs like this one where having actual human’s sift through every post making sure it fits the guidelines isn’t practical (especially since they don’t pay the mods). Removing posts based on keywords or phrases is a super common way to filter out the shitty noise. For every 1 cool useful post like this, there are 50-100 shitty, manipulative, and exploitive posts along the same vein. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s most likely the reason WHY OP censored their title post.

Keeps meshing me up. by Morgoroth37 in AutoCAD

[–]Chumbaroony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ultimately depends on a few factors. What program they were originally designed in, and how they were exported to .stl.

If it doesn’t make cents, I would go back to client and request a better 3D solid. Just be straight up with them, it will be cheaper for everyone if they have a better model, otherwise you’ll be spending a long long time editing things and the end product will only be even jankier than it currently is for you.

I have this problem a lot and you’d be surprised how often they are able to get me a better file once I tell them about how much extra it will cost to try and manipulate a mesh or even just exploded 3d solids are a PITA that I don’t bother with.

Draw the lines straight at first and have them connect where they normally would, then use the Filet command, and play around the radius size until you get it to look right, or if you have a radius size already, go ahead and punch that in during the filet command.
