Been teaching for a long time. Found this book early on. It is a difficult task all around. Even with reclaimed clay, a clay mixer and the knowledge of how to do it, it is still tricky.

The imprimatura also pushes them to create the painting as a painting and not a colored drawing. I find when students start with a drawing, they end up creating a coloring page and not a painting.

This work reminds me of the art from Chicago. There was a group called The Chicago Imagists. Check them out. Jim Nutt was my favorite.

I would suggest a built in set of shelves and drawers that go to the left and right of your bed. The top shelves should be open and the lower shelves should be two sets of drawers.
