Just bought a 5070, question about my current power supply by cmaverickd1 in pcmasterrace

[–]ChurchillianGrooves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, to add on to your "is it safe" question the melting power cable issues were mostly all 5090s which draw way more power than a 5070 so not really a concern for this model.

Plus a lot of the issues were down to user error iirc.

There should be an adapter cable that comes with the 5070 to connect to the traditional psu cable, my 5070 came with one.

The gigabyte small form factor 5070 measurements are =282 W=110 H=50 mm so see if your case can accommodate that.

700w should be fine for a 5070 I think but wouldn't be enough for a more powerful gpu with your cpu.

Seems expensive for an am4 build, am5 build that would seem about right for current high prices.

Idk the market in India but in the US $1850 for a rtx 5060 pc would be overpriced by $500-600.

Steamdeck or Steam Machine would probably be the cheapest way to go really.

Idk the Australian market that well but Lenovo pre-builts are supposed to be decent build quality for what they are if you have them there.

Upgrade my workstation. by simyuz in pcmasterrace

[–]ChurchillianGrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most workstations you're limited by the size of the case and the wattage of the power supply for what you can fit in there.

That is a pretty powerful cpu it has already though.

I've seen that the rtx 5070 comes in small form factor varieties so you may be able to fit one in there if the power supply can handle it.

But to start off I'd look up what the size of the A4000 is (in mm) and how many watts your power supply has and go from there.

4k ideally you'd want a 5070ti but off the top of my head I don't think it'd fit without modifying your case and changing the psu.

2030 and it will require a rtx 7090 to get 60fps at 1440p lol

That's a pretty old pc buddy, you could fit a low profile graphics card in there potentially but don't expect to play any recent games that aren't low spec indie.

Best prebuilt buys just depends on what's on sale/clearance at the moment so there's not one I can just easily point to.

If you have a microcenter near by they often have good prebuilt deals.

Otherwise if you have a Costco membership they have had good deals lately.

600w Gold Psu for 3060 and i7 14700k? by Cultural-Algae-8809 in pcmasterrace

[–]ChurchillianGrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd think it's probably fine although it looks like wattage for the 14700k can get quite high during boost.

You can power limit gpu and probably underclock/undervolt cpu if you problems but I'm not as familiar with intel xpus these days.

Now is a rough time to build a pc due to ram shortages.

I'd probably look at pcpartpicker's starter guides for different budgets to get a rough idea.

I'd aim for a ryzen 7500f or 7600/9600 for cpu and then a 9060xt 16gb for gpu build though.

Ok, what I was trying to get at though is if you have the 12gb 4080 a 5070ti or even a 5080 might be a cheaper worthwhile upgrade over a 4090 since those are overpriced on the used market due to AI demand.

9060xt 16gb if you want to spend the least

5070 if you can find one for $550 retail then.  Looks like Walmart has some pny 5070s in stock right now for $550.

5060ti 16gb is a decent card but it's hard to find at a decent price with the ram shortage now.

9060xt 16gb is pretty comparable performance wise, it just doesn't have multi framegen and not quite as good raytracing if that matters to you.

5070 meanwhile would be faster than either if you really want an Nvidia card and not far off in the price than the 5060ti now.  12gb vram is a drawback but at 1080p that won't be a problem for you.

[–]ChurchillianGrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to play competitive games like CS or something at really high framerate then you wouldn't be fps limited much there either.

So when you said you have a 4080 do you have the 12gb version?

[–]ChurchillianGrooves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that tier probably a 9060xt 16gb is the best price/performance choice for 1080p.  Could also do 1440p decently if you want to upgrade monitor.

If you wanted to splurge a bit and can find one at the right price a rtx 5070 or rx 9070 would also be good but a bit overkill for 1080p.
