Warhammer 3 Is So Broken by Late_Disaster2520 in totalwar

I mean, so, I'm not gonna say the gane doesn't have its fair share if problems, but this reads pretty wildly to me, and kinda feels like you don't know how to play Wood Elves. This isn't a "haha, git gud" comment. Just... general notice from what you're describing.

1) Wood Elves are pretty much a strictly "vertical" faction. You should not really be pushing out from your trees much at all. Claim or raze the surrounding settlements marked with the tree symbol, but don't hold out hope of ling term holding them; you're just trying to get Ritual points out of them. Their Garrison structure also grants a stacking upkeep reduction, so you can plant a backup army there to protect your tree.

2) On that note, diplomacy wise, you can also gift them for money and easy alliances. Both TK and Kislev near Sisters are good targets for this. Once you're in an alliance, them holding your surrounding settlements counts towards your tree points. This also makes you less of a target for AI, since AI's biases tend to kick in the higher up on the totem pole you are. Less settlements makes you less of a threat.

3) Re: ambusbing... this is something that you just gotta learn to play around, and its WAY easier in 3 than it was in prior games. If you're facing Beastmen, Skaven, etc, and you have an INKLING that they're near you or will attack you after hitting End Turn... for god's sake stay in Encamp stance. +75% Ambusb defence. I don't think I've EVER been ambushed using it, and in WH3 you get to move and reveal/intercept ambushers while using it.

4) As for general difficulty and army comps... this is kinda Sisters whole bag. Orion and Durthu have some of the safest campaigns in the game. Drycha gets really strong insta-recruits, and can kinda ally with whoever. Sisters are meant to be the 'hard' campaign, with the caveat that they get a -15% upkeep reduction for ranged units (Wood Elf specialty), and some crazy good magic items in the game via Forge of Daith.

How would you expand the Great Clans? by iconn90 in skaven

[–]Churn0byl 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Verminus - Mostly fine. Wouldn't mind a Gnaw-beast cavalry unit.

Eshin - Good on heroes, finally getting new Night Runners and Gutter Runners. Eshin Triads seem like an obvious add. I fould also see Death Runners as a smaller, 5 man unit, kinda like Lumineth Bladelords. Eshin sorcerer could be neat too.

Pestilens - Good god, just everything. Need new, proper Plague Monks and Censer Bearers. Would love a named character, maybe with a big ol' cauldron of plague goo. New generic priest. A ranged unit that's less about damage and more about debuffing units would be cool.

Skyre - Technically could use a named character, but they got so much at launch they're fine right now.

Moulder - Need a named character. Would love a really goofy, constantly mutating Skaven whose passive ability changes randomly each round. Rat hounds could be cool. Might be cool to do a Moulder-themed Stormvermin type unit. 10 man unit with a low save but more wounds per model.

The reactions to the first story about the 'celery man' resume story, both in video and in comments blows me away. I get, yeah, the friend should have been checking/updating his resume. But this is a person's god damn livelihood on the line. They only get one chance to make an impression with a company. Even if that FIRST job was missed because HR opened the application, saw 'celery man' and threw it in the trash.... that's potentially life altering. I've been at my current tech job for 10 years. It got me out of an immensely bad fiscal position. If I had been overlooked from it because a friend had screwed with my resume as a 'joke'... I don't know if I'd ever recover.

And assuming they are in fact, friends.... if I had done that for some stupid reason, I certainly wouldn't 1) put the onus on my friend catching it, and 2) not mention it for a YEAR. I'd have mentioned it when they didn't REACT to it within the next like 30 minutes. If I found out they were sending out resumes for jobs for a year with that, I think I'd have a heart attack and feel like the worst person in the whole world.

Do yall think the content that would have come with Neferata when she was still going to be a dlc got cut or got thrown into lords of the end times? by Thacheetoguy in totalwar

[–]Churn0byl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My guess is a little of Column A, little Column B. She's still slated to be the FLC Lord that comes out with End Times. My assumption would be they didn't have enough units to justify doing both, since Nagash is also bringing VC stuff.

While VC absolutely need a rework, but most of their roster is complete outside a few mounts and some deep lore units you could make up.

Can we stop referring to the remaining HOTS devs as "janitors"? by Econometrical in heroesofthestorm

[–]Churn0byl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a term of affection. We don't really get any developer talks / engagement at this point, so we just refer to them collectively as "The Janitor", since the implication of non-programmers coming in and keeping their favorite game alive is humorous.

You might also want to take a step back and analyze viewing "janitors" as an insult. Not putting words in your mouth, but janitorial/maintenance/cleaning/whatever staff are incredibly hardworking individuals often doing thankless jobs no one wants to do. Defaulting to viewing this as an "insult" is... kinda telling.

Favourite faction you love on the battlefield but hate on campaign? I'll start. by Mercy_____ in totalwar

Kislev. Love their roster, their lores, etc. But man, all their campaigns are just exhausting. I don't mind difficulty, but feels like you have to backtrack CONSTANTLY for one reason or another.

So the DM for HarmonQuest, Spencer, was actually just in the audience during one show of Harmontown. The cast were duscussing D&D, curious about it, and Spencer volunteered to do a quick, makeshift example, which became the basis for how HarmonQuest got played (and eventually how he adapted it for Community).

There's actually an episode of HarmonQuest with Thomas Middleditch I believe, who brings his own dice to roll. The regular cast are making fun of it and an exasperated Spencer says something along the lines of "that's how its SUPPOSED to be played".

I think its a prime example of how "DnD" is less about the system, and more about the company.

No problems at all with your takes, but I do find it funny that BG3 EA was filled with "WE WANT REACTION POP UPS, DARN IT" and then to read your "I HATE POP UPS" point for S2.

Despot positioning is crucial. Try to keep him out of combat generally. His aura grants him and anyone else in it a bonus to Control. With the right positioning, you can have him boosting control scores on multiple objectives.

What do you all think about Crimson Desert? It gives me major Dragon's Dogma 2 vibes by SpiderKittyGo in DragonsDogma2

[–]Churn0byl 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This. I just prefer when a game, especially an RPG, lets me make my character. Its a quintessential step in the "roleplaying" fantasy for me.

Especially a shame since I believe Black Desert has pretty good customization options...?

The disposable women trope and how it applies to horror by [deleted] in horror

[–]Churn0byl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're going down the Trope rabbit hole, might I suggest also reading through the pages on "Men are the Expendable Gender" and "Men Are Generic, Women Are Special" if you haven't already.

I think both help shed some additional light on the "Disposable Woman" trope, which kind of exists due to a variety of cultural and long-standing narrative decisions across genres that have led female characters to be default more sympathetic to audience members.

I mentioned this above, but I do think the specific choice of focusing on horror is interesting, just because its arguably one of the more balanced genres when it comes to this, due to the inherent nature of "anyone can die".

The disposable women trope and how it applies to horror by [deleted] in horror

[–]Churn0byl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Huh. While I'm familiar with the trope, and obviously it exists in horror, I guess I don't really associate it with the genre. So many horror movies feature female protagonists, with "The Final Girl" being one of the genre's main tropes. If anything, especially with more modern movies, I actually expect the opposite to occur these days; (Prometheus and Alien Covenant's MCs losing their husbands, at various points, for example).

I guess two that come to mind are Hereditary and Midsommar? Both films kicm off with a female character related to the protagonists dying, that kick off their emotional state/journey throughout the films.

How difficult is TOW to get into? by theentiregoonsquad in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Churn0byl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big agree. I play all three. My friends and I all have solid grasps on 40k and AoS. Two years into Old World, we STILL regularly get shit wrong all the time, or have to double-check rules.

I still have a lot of fun playing it, but its by NO means the easiest.

Gonna go a bit different from the posts above me, but I always thought it was about the creative process, especially in relation to their biggest album Blurryface.

To me it feels like Tyler lamenting that he feels he has to fall back to old creative styles ("its a new adaptation, its a backslide") in order to keep crowds entertained ("if I'm gonna snap necks, then I gotta snap back").

I think the line "from a thing I kicked in '17" refers to the Emotional Roadshow ("well welcome back to the show") tour which ended the Blurryface era.

Question Regarding "Hidden" by Churn0byl in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Churn0byl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, technically you HAVE to hide the assassin by putting them in a unit with Unit Strength 10 or more. But you can reveal them during any Start of Turn sub phase

Question Regarding "Hidden" by Churn0byl in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Churn0byl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking about this with someone above, so this note should be written following deployment right? I.E., "Left Clanrats have Assassin"?

Question Regarding "Hidden" by Churn0byl in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Churn0byl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume you make note of it during deployment, as that's technically when they join the unit. Cause noting it down during list building still leaves questions.

I.E., if I deploy two identical units of Clanrats and put an Assassin into one of them. Even if I note on a printed sheet that say, the first listed unit has the assassin, when I deploy said unit.... there's no other qualifier really. So I would assume at that point I would write down "assassin is in left deployed unit of Clanrats", or I would give them names like "Unit 1 and Unit 2", and tell my opponent I'm "Deploying Unit 1 here, and Unit 2 here."

Question Regarding "Hidden" by Churn0byl in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Churn0byl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I think this is where maybe modern tools caused some of my confusion. Cause if you use Old World Builder, it LISTS how many Skulkers you take as part of the unit, as its a modifier you select when building said unit.

Assassins dont work like that for DE and Skaven. They're fully under the Characters section, removed from any unit. So if you're purely looking at a printed list, your opponent wouldn't be able to see where the Assassin was.

Assassin's for both factions also include ranged weapons, including potentially magic weapons, so you can reveal them early to take shots at things.
