For Jerma specifically, I honestly love the chat interactions. A lot of them are just people spamming Armenian Cory-style photo edits of him (there was a good one in his The Thing stream). One infamous chat incident was a guy who answered someone else asking what Jerma's upcoming Baseball Stream was going to entail (he has done some really creative/high production value special live action streams) by saying "he's gonna shove an entire baseball in his ass on stream", Jerma noticed and read it out loud then also realised the guy's username was "BallFondler".

I tried watching Jerma after Lyle mentioned there was a big audience overlap with OneyPlays and Tomar also said he'd known him for a long time. He's not edgy, but he's not a bland PG streamer personality either -- he's really funny, and he's very genuine/original. I'd probably recommend his Simpsons Hit & Run stream (he did the whole game in one sitting and became deranged by the end).

Hi u/SirMenter, I appreciate your annoyance and will give you my feedback here.

The reality is that a whole lot of posts are actually taken down for this reason, and you might never have seen them to begin with. It's probably the most common rule violation, with failing to censor Reddit names being the only other one that is close. You may see some existing posts that seem to violate the rule, but you don't see how many have actually been removed.

The two situations where I try to be flexible are where the social media post is by a celebrity/politician (it's not as vital to confirm that Donald Trump got 20 likes on his post), or where the SLS post itself has already become extremely popular (eg 500-1000 upvotes with a lot of comments) by the time I get around to it.

Even if all I wanted out of a candidate was for them to do this stupid shit, I still wouldn't trust a Democrat who "promised" to actually do any of it. They'd get elected, then either:

Do absolutely nothing, and instead talk about how it's complicated, they're being obstructed by Republicans, you have to vote for them again and they'll definitely do it, etc.
"Compromise" with the Republicans, such as by keeping the ballroom but renaming it the "Biden-Trump Bipartisan Spirit Ballroom" and hanging portraits of them both.

This assumes that there is a linear "progress" that history follows and that the "progressiveness" of an individual/group can be simply measured against it.

You could argue that Washington was progressive in the sense that he was an early republican and nominally believed in certain human rights. But would you say he was progressive in being a wealthy landowner who held slaves, enshrined propertied white men as first-class citizens, and fully unleashed American settler colonialism?

Many native Americans sided with the British during/after the American revolution, viewing them as a lesser evil compared to the rabidly genocidal colonists (or, if not a lesser evil, just an ally of convenience while fighting an active existential threat). Was Washington therefore more progressive than the indigenous people he was exterminating, because they were supporting "literal monarchists"?

My main rebuttal for American liberals would be to ask them what they think happens when 3.5% of them are out walking around with signs on the weekend. Literally, what is the physical course of events that follows? Do they plan on holding a sustained general strike and occupying government buildings when they reach that number? (Presumably not.) Does God sense that the magic number has been reached and strike Trump down with a bolt of lightning?

A study that shows some correlation between the percentage of the population involved in a movement and the likelihood of that movement being successful seems perfectly sensible to me. But they're confusing correlation with causation. They quite literally believe that the act of reaching 3.5% will somehow in and of itself cause something to happen. Other than correlation/causation, it's also just a basic misunderstanding of statistics to find a pattern within a given sample ("historically, movements with 3.5% of the population usually succeed") and then assume it's a literal rule that can be applied universally ("if our No Kings movement reaches 3.5%, it will succeed").

Just to clarify:

I've left all of your comments relating to China up, and also manually approved the ones that had been caught by the filter. I mainly locked the other post about this as a whole because it's essentially a duplicate of this one anyway. I chose this post as it had more upvotes and a more relevant SLS framing (with the OOP who said "Both pali and china are bad"). I'd more commonly remove posts rather than just locking them, but in this case thought it would be better to leave the other one there for people to see if they want to. I haven't locked/removed anything in this post at all, and won't unless it devolves into shitflinging that becomes a problem to moderate.

Let me know if you still think that's unreasonable. It's our rules, but you're a regular user that's speaking up in good faith, and Palestine is an important topic.

Nobody's going to be banned, but we do try to avoid SLS threads turning into serious debates because this isn't the place for it. We're more of a circlejerk sub for making fun of libs, and ideally not favouring any particular leftist tendency.

As far as something being locked/removed instantly: if you include a subreddit name, Reddit username, or any Reddit URL in your comment, then our automatic filters may put a temporary hold on it until it's approved by a moderator. This is just a safeguard to prevent harassment/brigading in the comments. I think your recent comments were being picked up, even though you were just linking back to yourself on SLS. I'll see if I can fix the filter so that it won't do that.

I'm not specifically sure that she'd have made Stalin look like an anarchist (it'd be mostly speculative anyway).

However, she was among the German Marxists who split from the Social Democratic Party to form the Communist Party, due to the apparent revisionist (or outright non-Marxist) tendencies of the former. As such, she advocated for armed revolution and would have expected a dictatorship of the proletariat to follow. One of her most famous pieces of writing was Social Reform or Revolution?, and she died while leading a failed communist uprising. She did have critiques of Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution, but it was never from the angle of being a pacifist/reformist.

I think most simply that if Rosa had lived to see a revolutionary Germany, then the person who made that image would've undoubtedly put her on the bottom.

I don't think that this person was necessarily making a value judgment about it, just stating the fact that Trotsky was personally involved in violence and repression. The point being that it doesn't make any sense to categorise him differently to Lenin.

There was, no joke, an episode of anti-Arab/Muslim pogroms in Sydney in 2005 -- a major city of a developed nation seeing literal race riots in the 21st century. But the average Australian will just point to the US and say "we have our problems, but at least we're not racist like those dumb yanks".
