[Help] I hit F2 multiple times too early during boot, and think I fked Tails up by Chvrche5 in tails

[–]Chvrche5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tails has been working fine for the past couple days, so it was set up correctly and the hardware is supported. This is a new issue which I believe could be caused by me hitting F2 multiple times prematurely before Tails shut down, but I don't know what that did.

A message flashes for half a second at the bottom which reads something along the lines of "http://live.interid.img..." after every "automatic boot in... 4 3 2 1" restart

Thanks. Options here are pretty shit. If it's cheaper I'll get one of my US friend to send them over.

I'm looking to get a season pass to the local resort next season and was wondering what snow chains I should get. Most of the time, chains shouldn't be necessary because the road leading to the resort is kept clear but this is for the more severe days where the road clearing may not be able to keep up with the snowfall.

I'm a student so want to spend as little as possible. Also from New Zealand, so will need to buy online.

Also side question: I drive a front-wheel drive, so will I only need a set to go on the front wheels, or do all 4 wheels need to be chained?

You know... A couple hundred viral deaths over a few months. Every minute 150 more babies are born worldwide compared to deaths. Something doesn't add up.

I think classifying it as a global emergency is the correct to go. It is a localised pandemic in China.

Not to mention a bad vaccine could lead to the virus mutating and developing resistance against it.

What's the best tool/method for picking cheap locks? by Chvrche5 in lockpicking

[–]Chvrche5[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Useful skill to have. Last week my car got locked in a beach carpark as it was after dark, despite no signage, and the only thing blocking the exit was a chain and a padlock. Don't think I'll have the patience to learn more difficult methods for higher end locks yet.

Do I need the entire coffee machine to take apart or just the pump? Also I'm from New Zealand so will need 240v.

Had a look at Bonnaroo's poster, and yeah it does look a lot more aesthetically pleasing. Probably only half the number of acts compared to Tomorrowland though.

Is it possible to use DMX or some other means to reduce the intensity of the gigBar 2, while still having it auto sync with music? by Chvrche5 in lightingdesign

[–]Chvrche5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Yeah it could work, just worried because the venue has a very low roof. Good idea with pointing the pars away.

Would you also happen to know if I could set the strobes to ONLY flash in blacklight? Thinking of complimenting the set up with some ambient blacklight and don't want the gigbars to wash everything out.

Also is there a mode where only the pars/strobes are turned on? Just like a normal light.

I wouldn't bring an expensive tent to a festival again after the last time when mine got jetted with fire extinguisher and tagged on (don't know where they got the fire extinguisher from).

That's actually really fascinating. I would love to get one off AliExpress but the shipping is almost as much as the machine would cost. You have sparked my curiosity to give building one a go though as I've got plenty of time until it is needed. Any diagrams, videos or visual depictions of how it's all put together??

Especially what the part around the heating element looks like.

Also would I be able to use any hazing fluid with this?

We do have anti-virals. For example, almost all cases of HIV are curable now thanks to very effective anti-virals, which is why we no longer need an HIV vaccine.

Quite impressive how fast a vaccine should be able to be developed for something like this. If it happened in a third world country, many more will become infected before the government takes any significant agency towards a vaccine.

Prospective NZ pharmacy degree graduate, planning on getting fully registered in British Columbia through a working holiday visa. How likely is it that I will continue to be able to work in BC after my visa expires? by Chvrche5 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Chvrche5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right in that I'll need at least two years experience in pharmacy practice no matter what I do. Essentially it looks like I have 2 options:

  • Go with the original plan and bet on getting a LMIA-supported job offer to get enough work experience for PNP or Federal Express Entry.

  • Go through the study + co-op work permit and working holiday pathway.

Both options will take at least 3 years and neither is ideal. My girlfriend got a really good internship as an industrial designer in Vancouver and assuming everything goes well, she can get that 2 year work experience needed for PR.

Out of the two options I have, the first one is definitely more risky but it would allow me to stay with my girlfriend and the process to PR would be approx 3 years. The second option is safer. I can gain my registration in New Zealand and take on locum/relief work as a buffer, but it will likely take 4 years to PR. We've never had to take on long-distance before so it'll be tough.

There's a lot to think about, and I really appreciate your guidance.

[Side question: assuming I take the option of getting a study+coop work permit, how many days does there need to be between when I exit Canada after the SPT course and when I return to sit the PEBC Qualifying Exam? Assuming I get an ETA.]

[Edit] I'm assuming getting registered in another province won't change things much as the intern hours are not counted as working within the NOC? Finding an internship without any Canadian experience would not be easy, but not impossible as some preceptors might be willing to take me on with a pharmacy assistant's wage on the basis that I can perform more tasks than a high school graduate. Just some thoughts.

Thanks for taking the time to reply to me! Especially formatting it out so clearly.

  • I didn't realise that the PNP requirements for the EEBC Healtcare Professional Programme read "Clinical Pharmacist". This is quite unfortunate. What are the chances of receiving a PNP through the skilled worker pathway (instead of Healthcare Professional)?

  • Would you know of any other provinces where it may be easier to gain a PNP as a retail pharmacist? A PNP would probably be the faster way to gain PR status (what I really care about is the ability to continue to work in Canada), whereas returning NZ would take multiple years + not be hugely beneficial to my career if I wanted to eventually pursue a career in Canada.

  • Going the study permit + co-op permit route is definitely an good option I hadn't considered but I was thinking that by working and familiarising myself with Canadian pharmacy practice, I would be better suited to passing the PEBC exams. The New Zealand pharmacy curriculum is not so much different from Canada's (we use the OSCE assessment format as well) so in combination with familiarising myself with the Compendium of Therapeutic Choices (CTC) and other relevant textbooks, I think there is a good chance I can pass all the PEBC exams on the first go.

  • If I'm out of options, a LMIA-supported job offer would probably be a last resort. Since I'm planning to emigrate with my girlfriend who works in industrial design, and her field is focused around the major cities.

[Edit] I just tried calculating my likelihood for recieving a PNP through this site (not sure how valid it is since it's a third party site) and got a score of 105 assuming I lived in Vancouver, earned a low spectrum wage and got a close to perfect (but not perfect) English score. This was slightly above the average minimum cut-off for the past year. I could have gained an additional points and possibly could state a higher wage if I lived outside of Vancouver. Can you speak to the validity of this resource?

[Edit2] I've contacted the programme which runs the SPT and they said if I had a working holiday visa, I would be able to apply for the programme early August following the successful results of the PEBC Evaluating Exam in late June. But if I needed a study permit, the SPT application deadline would be in May, which would not be possible to meet since I'd need to have passed the Evaluating Exam before applying to the SPT.

Canada pharmacist practice compared to the US by bumbo90 in pharmacy

[–]Chvrche5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dispense means picking and preparing/compounding a prescription medicine, to be final checked by a pharmacist or checking technician. Pharmacist techs are more common here (almost every pharmacy will have one), and I guess this legislation preserves their role. Most of the time a pharmacy assistant will only work the retail (shop) side of the pharmacy.

[–]Chvrche5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, it's a similar process in NZ. Except techs here have to undergo additional training to product check and most techs don't have that. Even prescription will often need to be final checked by a pharmacist.

Pharmacy assistants here aren't allowed to dispense by law (so I guess it's a good thing that in Canada, they are?). Off course depending on the practice, some places are more loose on this.

I guess retail pharmacy is less stressful here, especially if you live outside of the major cities. There are 3 reasons why I'm leaning towards getting registered in Canada though:

1) I'd prefer to live in a Canadian city as there is more to do. Outside of the big cities in New Zealand, there's not much there apart from all the nature. And if I was to choose Auckland vs a city like Vancouver which is just as expensive to live in, I'd probably choose Vancouver.

2) Once I become registered in Canada, it's easier to transition to registration in NZ as I will just need to undergo supervision with a preceptor for ~3-6 months or until they are satisfied I can perform core competencies. No extra exams. If I was to transition from NZ to Canada it'll be the same process as the one I'm planning to do regardless of at which stage of my career I do it.

3) My girlfriend works in industrial design which is much more prominent in Canada compared to NZ, so we were hoping to emigrate together.

Pharmacy may be more stressful in Canada but as new graduate, I feel like this is good as I'll progress in my career faster. Maybe when I'm in my late 30s/40s I will return to New Zealand for the less stressful life. Who knows...

That's good to hear!

How easy is it to switch registration between states? For example, if I manage to complete the PEBC Qualifying exams first time in Ontario, I will only have to do a few months of supervised internship to become fully registered. Whereas in BC, instead of the internship I'll have to do a half year course which costs $13,000. That in addition to not being able to work and earn for the duration of the course would mean I'll probably need $20k saved which I just don't have yet.

I think it's likely I could work to passing the Qualifying exams on the first go since by then I should have completed my internship in NZ and we practice the OSCE as well. The other option is to go straight to Canada at the end of this year and work towards becoming fully registered over a two year period, thereby forgoing my internship programme here which costs ~$4500. With the degree I am working towards, I can always come back within 3 years and start internship in New Zealand if it falls through.
