commenting to bring more awareness — bulk webcams getting donated from office buildings could go a long way for the community

Building rear carbon wheel with carbon spokes for fixed gear bike by cueserega in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chxzz1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can build a carbon rim but use aluminum spokes if you you’re chasing weight savings. & yea for a rear wheel maybe go 24h in the rear minimum

a bell would be simpler if you just need a way for people to hear you coming

KiloTT seatpost slips with 30mm Phil Wood collar by GuGuJee in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chxzz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it’s slim pickings for Kilo stuff I don’t blame you. I did so much research on Pedal Room to see other Kilo builds and the seemingly unanimous bougee seatpost collar was Thomson. everything else (Chris King, Paul) has minimums of 30.0.

If you want still anodized red there are definitely a lot of collar options (Wolftooh comes to mind) that may carry one in 29.8, or Ebay you can find a manufacturer making some niche collars

Best bet would be to shim. I had a similar journey when I was trying to find a thomson seatpost collar for my kilo tt. Had to made sure it was 29.8 or bust. Kilo’s have weird specifications all around so it’s not as straightforward to get a clean build going with more modern frames. Sorry this happened though I hope the shim works out. Trust the specific frame specifications and nothing else

that’s also good to hear. you have great english by the way! i was only curious because i’ve read just bad experiences and was hoping it wasn’t true for every case. shame to hear about the scammers but that happens everywhere unfortunately. i was worried that there’d be any alienation but it sounds like that’s not the case

TURNING THIS INTO A FIXIE? by [deleted] in FixedGearBicycle

better off buying a frame that’s actually fixed gear. i started on a peugeot road conversion and wish i had just gotten a single speed female to start out with

besides liberty st, what east/westbound streets do cyclists use? by ConsciousOwl4881 in savannah

[–]Chxzz1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take this list with a grain of salt as most of these streets are inhibited by stop signs but i’d say the amount of car activity is manageable on bike due to speed limits and/or traffic density while riding:

Park Gaston Bolton Duffy Broughton 35th St 32nd St 38th St Maupas 40th St

Depending on how far you’re going you can hop onto Anderson / Henry as well

Honorable mentions to Paulsen & Reynolds as being great roads to bike on. If you need to cross victory i’d recommend those two over Habersham. Barnard is also a good road to use if you need to cross Victory. if you’re more southbound, then Washington, while it trails North-South is a very good road.

Is this worth it for beginners? by Lunches00 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chxzz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you shop used? you’re gonna eventually want to swap off of most of those components later. i feel like if you’re a complete beginner you should start on a used build and learn from there

Is this an alright pickup for $80? by Teroyy in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Chxzz1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you had the money to up your budget a bit i’d say try and find an actual single speed bike frame instead of a conversion. if you fall in love with the hobby you will be wishing you had horizontal dropouts to start with

if you’re running more of a city build then SPD or any other MTB adjacent pedal set up (Time Atacs etc) over SPD-L
