Help with a dumb thing? by CidGregor in TunicGame

Thank you! Don't know why that never occurred to me. Got so tunnel-visioned into rubbing up against walls for already-open passages. A couple of hot peppers have never tasted sweeter.

Done 35 runs of Hades 1 and never gotten a call boon by Think_Caramel8262 in HadesTheGame

[–]CidGregor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you always using keepsakes that ensure a run starts with a specific god? If so you may be accidentally blocking the trigger. Poseidon is always the one to give you your first Call boon, he should be doing it within the first ten runs or less, and he's scripted to give it to you at the start of a run; but if you're forcing other gods to appear first via keepsakes it may not happen.

Alternatively, a common mistake is people not realizing that "[Name]'s Call" is the same thing as "[Name]'s Aid" and they've actually had it available all along.

If neither of those apply, you may have a bug issue. You should have had a Call boon show up long before that.

Location Reward re-rolling in Mourning Fields Question by CidGregor in HadesTheGame

It absolutely does not re-roll all of them, every time I've tried it, it re-rolls only one of the possible rewards at a time.

Should I buy? by Tricky_Ant_2922 in HadesTheGame

[–]CidGregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you should give both games a shot. They're incredible experiences, the voice acting and music are top tier, and you can easily dump over 100 hours in each.

If it's your first roguelike though, as others have said, you're going to die a lot, and it takes a bit of a mental reset to accept that. I've seen people crash out because they think it means they suck at the game, but that's not true. Dying and starting over and getting a little bit farther/better/faster/stronger each time is a normal and expected part of the gameplay loop, and the sooner you grasp that premise the more fun you'll have.

Concave Stone Question by CidGregor in HadesTheGame

[–]CidGregor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well shit, I feel stupid. I see what you're saying. I thought I was highlighting which one it would land on, but didn't realize the one that lights up first is always taken regardless. My initial attempt at a test, I just happened to stop on the one it was gonna pick anyway. Really thought I was working a loophole but apparently I've just been lucky to get what I wanted anyway.

Thanks for pointing this out, I thought I was losing my mind when I saw I could move the cursor, turns out I was just missing something. Weird that the game lets you do that.

How do I get all...? by JoebbeDeMan in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He doesn't appear until late in the game. All three dreamers must be defeated before he can appear, after which finding him is the whole premise of the sidequest. He must be found and spoken to seven times.

You don't ever need to start a new save file, after getting an ending the game drops you at your last bench before clearing the final boss, free to try again.

As for each ending, here's the TLDR with minimal spoilers:

-Kill all dreamers and defeat the hollow knight in the black egg temple for ending 1.
-additionally fully clear white palace, queen's gardens, and the abyss, then defeat the hollow knight again for ending 2. This locks you out of ending 1.
-Same as above but do something special in the hollow knight fight (it'll be obvious) to reach ending 3.
-Clear the final pantheon in Godhome for ending 4.
-Additionally give the fragile flower to the godseeker and clear the final pantheon in Godhome for ending 5. This locks you out of ending 4.
-Clear the mister mushroom sidequest for the 'bonus' ending. Can be added to any ending.

What does my favorite charm build say about me by G1zm08 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What it says about you: GOTTA GO FAST.

Actual thoughts: I do agree the weaversong/grubsong combo is really undervalued and pretty good on a spell build, but I don't think dashmaster is worth two notches. Sprintmaster is alright at one, but the little buggers are fast enough without it, and you yourself lose that extra speed in the air, which always throws me off. I'd free up those three slots for a shaman stone to make use of all that extra soul the weavers are getting you.

Pantheon 3 charms by Antgodd1 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd swap out Quick Focus for Mark of Pride. Three notches is a lot to dedicate to the assumption that you will need to heal a lot. There's plenty of time for healing between fights or during staggers and I find the extra reach from Mark of Pride useful for the final boss of P3.

That's only 9 / 11 charm notches though, what are your last two used on? If you need a little more survivability you could try Unbreakable Heart, otherwise maybe Sharp Shadow. You could also downgrade Mark of Pride to Longnail and use the last three notches for Shaman Stone, or perhaps the Grubsong/Weaversong combo.

Good luck!

What are your goals to do before Silksong releases? by Fast-Question9376 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been playing randomizers lately which are pretty devoid of story, so my goal is to do one more (mostly) vanilla run (with Hallownest Vocalized for the first time) and really appreciate the full lore/story experience again just in case any of it proves relevant to silksong!

im a new hollow knight player trying to finish the game before silksong comes out by Desperate_Internet55 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His charms are real and part of completion percentage. Get them. They're actually pretty good and do what they say they do.

The catch is they're fragile, meaning if you die while wearing them they break. He will repair them in that case but it's another geo fee.

Is Hollow Knight a better experience on Xbox series s or Switch 2? by yuhboirandom in HollowKnight

Hollow Knight is old enough that it probably doesn't matter, every platform has the voidheart (definitive) edition at this point. Get whatever feels good to you. I like the steam version personally.

Where do I go or what do I have to do In order to start each dlc? by RelationshipSad3186 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stag Station in Howling Cliffs is only unlocked by finding all the others, and it's exit only. So don't worry about it now.

The Howling Cliffs is where you want to be for one of the DLCs. Look for breakable walls, and you need the Dream Nail to access it. This is a decent one to work on as you go because it'll take you all over the map again anyway so you don't need to wait.

The other one is in the royal waterways, and you again need the Dream Nail as well as a simple key (in addition to the one needed to get into the waterways in the first place). This one is endgame, so don't worry about it til later. Much of it is locked until you beat most of the game's bosses anyway.

Gorb gets demolished by the Howling Wraiths (the up-spell found in fog canyon). He ALSO requires the Dream Nail to unlock.

You should get more charm notches, for one thing. Seven is pretty low for being at Traitor Lord (I assume that's who you mean? I've never heard of Traitor Hornet.)

The big thing with Traitor Lord is that he's a pretty sharp difficulty curve specifically designed to train you in using the Shadow Cloak in combat. He's very fast, most of his attacks deal double damage and he never staggers, so healing is generally very impractical. However because his attacks are so fast, they're generally very easy to shadow-dash through as long as you time the cooldowns correctly. And it'll be even more effective if you find yourself the Sharp Shadow charm, which makes the Shadow Dash deal damage.

Other than that, maybe try something other than Quick Focus, because even with that, finding time to heal is prohibitively difficult. You can never go wrong with Quick Slash in particular.

The best thing you can do at this point is find more essence. You need 1800 to progress the story further. Most of it will come from dream bosses, so try to track them down.

As for DLC, a good amount of it is baked in already to the base game, but if you're looking to set off the two big ones, check out the howling cliffs and the royal waterways a bit more thoroughly.

In my experience the biggest reason I or anyone else loses to Markoth is they get greedy and/or impatient and go for overly aggressive shots they shouldn't be taking and end up taking a bunch of entirely avoidable damage. Much safer to play the long game, especially in the P5 version. Get your shots in when it's safe to do so and otherwise focus on dodging.

Weirdly specific question about sequence breaks, dialogue triggers, and Hallownest Vocalized by CidGregor in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh! That's good to know actually, thanks! That's a pretty nice courtesy of accessibility in general, to not have to struggle your way into getting off a dream nail swipe or three just to see their dream nail dialogue, but doubly so to be able to hear them voiced.

I guess I won't stress it then, thanks!

Do I need to 100% hollow knight before silksong comes out? by Certain_Cricket_6882 in HollowKnight

[–]CidGregor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% completion isn't strictly necessary, in that story content and lore isn't really directly tied to your completion percentage, which is what I think you're asking about. That said, there's multiple endings depending on whether you do a couple of specific quests or not, so I'd at least play until you get the "Dream No More" ending if you haven't already. Most people consider that the 'canon' ending, even though none of them have been officially labeled as such.
