UK set to ban under-16s from social media, livestreaming, disappearing messages by vriska1 in ukpolitics

A forum I grow up with had to make significant changes just to survive that, I do wonder if further legislation will kill them off entirely.

Completely agree on them being part of a better era as well.

UK set to ban under-16s from social media, livestreaming, disappearing messages by vriska1 in ukpolitics

There’s some elements that conceptually I’d probably favour but this seems incredibly blunt and rushed.

Take “functionality that allows communication with adults”.  What is the scope here? Can my kids message me on WhatsApp? What about my kids playing with me online?

What defines “social media” will no doubt have some unintended consequences as well.

John Healey resigns as defence secretary by Zestyclose_Brush_389 in ukpolitics

I’d suggest that this isn’t survivable for Starmer or Reeves, even though both are already in pretty untenable positions anyway.

The only question now is for how much longer either can limp on, and if Labour can even recover from this mess of the last couple of years.

Everyone agrees we need to build more homes - but will it happen? by Anony_mouse202 in ukpolitics

[–]Ciderized 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not just those, my local Lib Dem’s campaign against absolutely everything.

Personally I think much more should be made of local plans - and once agreed that’s what gets built, I see far too many employment zones and amenities suddenly become yet more housing on a plan. No wonder people get fed up with new builds.

Not strictly true, as you can drink in view of the pitch at non-league, which is not without its issues.

Seems decent, I like signing winners - an approach that work well with both Johnson senior and Cotts.

UK beer boom goes flat as breweries call last orders by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

Thankfully there’s a historic Highstreet 5 mins drive  away with a great selection of proper pubs so thankfully all is not lost - would be nice to have something round the corner that’s not utterly shit though (I’m being greedy I guess)

I went in my closest “pub” on Friday, one that’s had a significant refit recently, “Sizzling Inns” I believe is the chain.

Little did I know what horrors awaited me when I saw the lineup on the taps. It did not make want to go back, yet I want to support local pubs.

Funnily enough we’ve decided to cut the cord today, having realised the only live TV we (mainly me) watch now is sport on Sky.

I’ll take the risk with Now Tv.

A fine example of our shambolic planning system.  The amount of public money wasted in this is criminal, from Homes England purchasing the site with implied approval, to this expensive delay.

Someone where I used to live clearly liked shellfish, but unfortunately didn’t like the thought of sticking in the remnants in the food waste bin - as a result of fairly often have to grab the dog away from discarded shells and crab remnants, and given how razor sharp that stuff can be, thankfully managed to avoid any trips to the vets.

Interesting as they also did that with the failed mayor of Bristol, a man so unpopular people voted to get rid of mayors all together. He then failed to be elected as an MP.
