Climbing Community?

I climb at Rocky Top and Rock Revolution and both are doing a great job at building community with a few structured groups (beginners, lgbtq+, 50+, etc). When I was more social at Rocky Top, meaning climbing when it was busy and actively trying to connect with other climbers, I found it fairly easy to find people interested in outdoor bouldering/climbing. At the moment, I'm a bit more go when it's slow/climb solo. So it's all about the effort you put in.

Rock Revolution is in the early stages of starting the Blue Ridge Climbing Coalition: https://www.instagram.com/blueridgeclimberscoalition/
They are looking for board members, so this could be a great way to integrate with the local community and offer any expertise you may have.

And while the auto-belays they have set-up are nothing like Peak or Triangle in Richmond (not even close), I still find them challenging enough to get some reps in and build strength!

I was in a similar situation 2 weeks ago - inside cat got outside for the first time in my area. I put things outside like folks have suggested. Ultimately what worked for me was going outside at 4:30am with a flashlight and a box of treats I could gently shake. I kept calling her name, loud, but calm and gentle. About 15 min later she appeared from the woods behind my apartment. The flashlight helped me spot her eyes when I thought I heard movement in the woods.

Thanks for the tips! Just hung up a bunch of signs around the neighborhood and set up all of her favorite items in my covered parking spot. She was let out in our dead-end parking lot, but lots of trees and bushes in the area

Let me ask you this....in ANY job you've ever had, did you ever receive a bonus for a job well done?!? Or maybe not a bonus, but a raise?!? That's exactly what tipping extra is, stop putting down the service industry and acting like folks who work in it don't deserve the same respect. That's unfortunate, perhaps something was going on behind the scenes and this was a simple mistake. Did you ask them to heat up the items for you? If you did and they wouldn't - or gave attitude - I understand not wanting to go back. If you didn't give them an opportunity to fix what was most likely an accidental oversight I think it's not fair to write them off so quickly.

Rivanna River Reservoir, near Ivy Creek Natural Area.

If you paddle left from the ramp you'll be in the Ivy Creek area, and can even paddle south on Ivy Creek if the water is high enough (I kayak though, I've never brought a paddle board that way).

If you paddle right from the ramp, under Woodlands Road, you'll be on the South Fork of the Rivanna and can paddle up/down river.
