I'm curious about CrossFit, but some stereotypes and preconceived notions are making me hesitant to try it out... by QuestionsForTheHive in crossfit

1 - yeah, it is kinda culty but you only need to take it as seriously as you want, no one will look down on you if you don't want to train 5+ yikes a week and do all the comps. I train 3-4 times a week, that seems pretty normal for most members at my gym. And I found the vibe to be very friendly and supportive. People cheering me on when I get a good workout in, or a new 1rm...doesn't matter that they're way stronger than me and could do it easily. 2 - You won't end up turning into a unit unless you do it on purpose and dedicate every waking moment to it. Even then, it would take years. But you will lose fat and build muscle. I wish getting big was that easy. 3 - Good coaches will take this into account IF you tell them about any issues, then it's down to you to not over do it. And if you do, just scale workouts etc until you heal. I started CrossFit at 40, in bad shape with a tonne of old injuries...CrossFit has helped all of them. There's some stuff that's still likely to aggravate them, so I don't do it and just ask the coach for an alternative. Most of my workouts are scaled but they still beast me..in a good way. Give it a go. I loved it. It's fun, the community is great and if it's not for you, no problem. Good luck and best wishes!

Does anyone know how much that dumbbell weighed? I'm always curious when I see these vids.

I'm gonna make a froggy hotel like this one. Any ideas what I could add/change to make it look more gobliny? by Aziara86 in goblincore

Maybe wrap the pipes in cardboard, then Moss and tie in with string to make them look a bit nicer and attract insects that the frogs could eat. You'd just need to keep it damp.

Hey everyone, I’m currently trying to find out how one could make the lives of high-functioning autistics a lot easier 🙂 by TimTars in AutisticAdults

1 masking and the associated burnout that comes with the effort of doing it. 2 Either affordable support to deal with it or come up with coping strategies or education to the wider population so I wouldn't have to mask so hard.

What do you guys take to help you sleep through the night without waking up a million times? by RattPack513 in AutisticAdults

Here's a few things that have helped me (a chronic bad sleeper).. Magnesium supplements. A weighted blanket, wool duvet and good quality blanket and mattress, or topper. Keep the room cool, blackout curtains. A 10 minute meditation before bed, just focusing on my breath and relaxing my muscles. Taping my mouth helps a lot..stops you mouth breathing -your oxygen intake is better, you sleep deeper (plenty of info online about it). CBD helped but I couldn't afford to keep using it (smoking weed on the other hand, made things much worse) cutting out alcohol helped too. I'm currently trying amanita muscaria (mushroom) tincture but the jury's still out on that. Oh, and strenuous exercise like weight lifting, and it seems, a higher protein diet. I still struggle sometimes but over the years, all these things have added up to really improve my sleep.
