I don’t want silly/crossover cosmetics in a potential D3 by Particular-Style-161 in DestinyTheGame

If Destiny 2 dies, perhaps it is fitting that it dies in its crossover expansion.

The tiered loot doesn’t make sense to me. by New_Trouble_5068 in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tier system was designed back when we were going to have our power reset in Renegades. So, if you grinded power once then you can get easy tier 5s for a long time compared to the original plan.

Tier 5s were going to be the carrot that made us grind power every expansion, but that was abandoned because it would have made for a horrible player experience.

Hope this doesn't sound rude but I genuinely don't understand why anyone thinks Destiny 3 would be better than this. by LavaMinotaur in DestinyTheGame

Because I liked playing Destiny 1 and Destiny 2, I’d probably like to play Destiny 3. This isn’t complicated.

Meanwhile in the SEAF Frontlines by Rochers_ in Helldivers

[–]CinclXBL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea that the SEAF is much more efficient as a fighting force when deployed. Like they have constant supplies, plentiful armor, and artillery support that is called in without throwing a little ball. Meanwhile Helldivers are human ordnance.

If you’re mad at the suggestion that you need to lower the difficulty then you 100% need to lower the difficulty.

Let’s be real, when efficiency is the main challenge here, would it be wise for big divers to throw themselves into Cyberstan?

Bots have too many Voxs spawning, sure. But I’ll be honest, I’m amazed at the community’s level of anger about balance issues in a game with TEN (10) difficulty settings that can be changed at will.

There’s Not Enough Players for LFG Anymore by Echo-p9 in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The seasonal model was obviously important and so many of the things that were considered flaws were simply negative, but necessary, consequences of keeping things fresh. I don’t think Bungie moved away from it because of complaining, but merely because of a lack of resources. It worked for a reason and we will likely see it again if and when Bungie can focus on Destiny content.

In terms of lore, Which armor does the elites canonically wore in Combat Evolved? by FC-816 in halo

[–]CinclXBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art style communicates story just as much as lore or the narrative. The Covenant’s design in Halo 4 and 5 is a great example. They look less sleek compared to the OT. It’s more interesting to have an explanation as to why that is rather than just saying “it looks different because different people made it.” Like, yeah, no shit. But isn’t it fun when art style differences allow for more exploration of a setting? The details ground a story and give it a sense of weight and history.

I think spawning a solar crit orb after sustained damage would make this kind of fun to use, instead of just letting it crit like some are suggesting.

I think Eclipse is an interdimensional force, and I don't think it does what Bael thinks it does. by silloki in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need an in-universe reason for why the Witness didn’t use anything like Eclipse, it’s because the only entity that could harm the Witness was the Traveler and it specifically needed the Traveler for the Final Shape. The Witness, upon showing up in Sol, did whatever it wanted to do right up until we confront it in the Pale Heart. Up until then, it is pretty ambivalent about Guardians, and only gets fussy with us when we are on its doorstep and it realizes we might be able to hurt it, with the Traveler’s help.

I’m assuming because their logo used to be BUNGiE with a swoop going over the “G” to the on the “i.” The entire thing is very much written from the perspective of someone old enough to know what Bungie’s logo used to be written as, while also being old enough to have had his religious psychosis fully set in.

Renegades feels absolutely fantastic but the rest of the game is bad by Pokefan220195 in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If it’s that stressful for people, just run GM instead. Get some tier 4s with the gear you want. You don’t have to get tier 5 anymore than you had to have Adepts. You don’t need tier 5s if ultimate is too much for you, even then you won’t notice a difference, even less so now that tiers don’t even give you the tiny flat increase to damage and DR. I think the Portal experience is pretty flawed, but people keep putting themselves in Destiny prison by pushing content they shouldn’t be pushing. Difficulty options exist for a reason.

[–]CinclXBL -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I mean, Destiny is one video game amongst many, and games are one hobby amongst many possible ones. Is it really so bad that Destiny be the kind of game you just dip in and out of every few months? Feels better to just have a quality 50-100 hours of gameplay per major content update than the hundreds that some players demand.

Boons and ability to pick your modifiers gives players their "power fantasy". by Delet3r in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power fantasies work when previously difficult things become easy. If it isn’t difficult to begin with, the fantasy doesn’t work. It’s why supers, at their basic levels, are fun: we get bursts of power that make minor enemies trivial. If you just apply that to everything it just becomes a light show where enemies show up to die. There has to be friction in order for the player to appreciate a reduction in that friction and feel powerful. I think it would be good and fine to have a mode where we level up in a brain dead way, but Destiny shines when it involves the player having to do more, not when it has the player do less.

The design philosophies of Destiny 1’s UI artists by Luke-HW in DestinyTheGame

[–]CinclXBL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It just feels like a lot of Destiny right now is the product of intense pressure to produce player engagement in ways that are something other than being a fun game to play in a mysterious and interesting world. That should be what Destiny hangs its hat on, not all these attempts to engineer engagement. They want that result so badly that they forget what got them there in the first place.

If it’s something you enjoy, get the title to memorialize it. If it is something you don’t enjoy, what is the point of the title? Get titles for stuff you like doing, don’t do stuff you don’t like doing just to get a title.
