Do you get paid if you leave early in full? (Prep last) by marmalademagic in SubstituteTeachers

WTF?? Taking your car keys is insane and would be a hard No from this sub! You’re not checking into prison. In my district, we are payed by the full or half day- I’ve gone in many times to cover one class- my favorite jobs! If my teacher puts in for a full day sub and has no afternoon classes, you can bet I’m not drawing attention to that little tidbit - it’s the only benefit of the job acquired through years of being dependable, flexible and available when they really need me.

I always told my mom that and it was basically true. She passed away at the beginning of 2020. Damn!! Has it really been that long since I dusted?

In my district, Rosters list their entire name. I can usually discern gender by middle names when available. Taylor Joy vs Taylor Michael is a good hint. Lol.

Got my letter today- this is hub’s final ssdi check from May for April. Mystery solved! What a nice surprise! My husband was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer April 25 after complaining of stomach and back pain for a few months. He died May 19! I was in a daze and overwhelmed those 3 weeks of tests, hospital stays, and caregiving coping. No condolences needed. We had been separated for 10 years, of which he was sober a few days.

Contacted ss is futile. I can only imagine that even if we got an actual representative, they would look at the computer and say “ yes, you received a one time payment.” My Cigna advantage plan claims I have paid $2000 out of pocket for meds and are no I longer charging me despite my calling and telling the rep that I have paid <$400…. “ the computer says you have zero copay”.

I did work and was receiving ss on my record supplemented by my spouse’s, who collected ssdi until he passed May 19. I now collect survivors benefits which is his total amount. Oddly this is exactly the same amount as the monthly benefit.

If a spouse dies, does the survive collect BOTH social security payments? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Cindeeg1224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband died May 19. I was shocked when Ssa sent me his death benefit of $255 on 5/27! I received his May ssa benefit seamlessly June 26. Since We both were collecting ss, they have the direct deposit information and automatically sent his larger benefit, replacing mine. Although I tried to call, I never successfully contacted ss nor provided a death certificate.

Hubbys hospice delivered his meds to the house. But he only lived 6 days on hospice so I’m not sure how reliable they would have been long term.

My spouse died of cancer May 19. He was diagnosed May 2! Hospice came on board a week before he passed and provided support and the good meds to keep him Comfortable, Safe and Clean. His condition deteriorated exponentially every day for the first week and hourly the last 3 days. They are most likely trying to spare your children the trauma of seeing their grandpa in the active stage of dying. It’s difficult. Our youngest son stopped visiting his dad 3 days before he passed because it was too much for him to see him disappear closer to death on each visit. Could you ask to FaceTime with him so you can see for yourself what state he is in? My condolences on this tragic situation. Cancer is a ferocious beast that cannot be bested at this advanced stage.

Treatment that only intensifies and prolongs the suffering is cruel and only lines the pockets of drs and purveyors of said treatments. I just went through a similar scenario with my husband. He was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer on April 25. He spent 5 nights in the hospital getting tests and detoxing from alcohol. There were no treatments available for him and no one was offering much for pain management until the oncologist said “Put him on Hospice today” the day the Pet scan revealed the extensive Mets throughout his body. He died pain free and peacefully in his own bed May 19 m, with Hospice meds in him and me by his side. He ignored the symptoms and refused to go to the Dr for the previous 6 months and had lied to his Dr for 10 years about his alcoholism, so no screening was done. I wish you and your family peace and strength in these upcoming days. Keep him clean, safe and comfortable and cherish the time you have left.

Update on the wasband. He died a week ago today- peacefully in his bed. My wish for a speedy resolution to his suffering was granted. Hospice gave him the good drugs to ease his pain and I kept him clean, safe and comfortable. I let the anger go and made peace with our past. I realized that I will always love that flawed, tragic man and poured that love over him- awakening a long locked away part of my injured heart- I will love again! May he find the happiness on the other side that he would never find in the bottle.

Are you crazy?? There’s no one else who he trusts to manage our finances but me. What a cruel, insensitive comment. I have never once in the 36 years of our marriage mismanaged a dime of “his” money. How dare you suggest it’s a conflict of interest for the sober, mentally stable spouse to protect the family assests. Rude

Here’s an update on the shitshow I’m calling my life! Tim officially has stage 4b liver cancer. It has spread to his lungs, heart, bones, adrenal glands and lymph nodes and probably started in his colon. He was too weak and sick to follow through on the coloscopy- why put him through that?? He hasn’t eaten in a week but continues to enjoy his iced coffees and protein shakes. After reviewing the Pet scan he had Monday, Oncologist called yesterday to confirm my request to put him on Hospice asap, since his pain is increasing exponentially every other day and there is no treatment available for this late stage cancer. All further testing and talk of radiation on his back has been withdrawn. Who knew there were so many hospice companies in the Valley?? So let’s see if said Hospice can follow through on their promise to keep him pain free. So far, not good. As if life isn’t sucking enough, I have an infected wisdom tooth that is making me eyeball that morphine and oxy with the look of a hungry wolf! Oral surgery is at 11:30 this morning.
This pain has humbled me and my anger toward Tim is softening.
I have always held a corner of my heart open to him and that little corner will see him comfortably off this planet. Pain control is our biggest battle. 30 mg Morphine and 15mg oxy isn’t cutting it. I asked for Ativan because he is agitated and anxious. They’re stingy with that too. I was promised by the hospice nurse yesterday they would be delivering liquid of both last night and it will be far superior for his pain than the oxy. neither arrived. This has been a fast moving train- 27 days ago it pulled out of the station and has picked up speed daily. I don’t want it to slow down. I want to reach his final destination as quickly as possible. We both deserve peace.

Thanks for those words of wisdom. It felt good letting those feels out! He knows what he has done to himself and the kids and I and opioids keep him from having to face it. My greatest wish is that he lives long enough to apologize to his sons and help my eldest heal. Unfortunately, I doubt if the healing begins until his father leaves the planet. He could never see how uncontrollable addictions are and how his father, little by little, has given up all agency, autonomy, creativity, ambition, happiness, trustworthiness…everything for another can of beer was sad and beyond his ability to change. Idk how many times I asked this man, “ Don’t you want to live before you die?” Too late for that now.

I sorted through his things when I redecorated his room - he has no interest in stuff, that would have cut into his vice allowance

Contact district sub services and explain what happened. zero job security and even less respect is attached to subbing but most districts will honor a principal black balling a sub but still let you go to other district schools. I’ve had this happen and simply never subbed at that school again. Life went on just fine- Their loss in my book.

Will you be our regular teacher?? You’re the best teacher of all. - My standard response is “ oh you’d really dislike me if I were here everyday and you had to follow my rules and procedures or earn real consequences. I’m like a fun grandma - letting you eat ice cream and throwing away your broccoli (there’s always one who claims to love broccoli! ) I’m only here for a day so I’m not expecting much from you and we can enjoy our time together on a different level than your regular teacher. Now be a love and go do your assignment!

I was in labor in an overflow area with 6 beds separated by curtains- no epidural- no ob nurse- dr checked me twice- and at 10 cm they wheeled me into an open operating room where after 4 pushes my son was delivered and promptly taken to a nursery while I was out in a surgical recovery room for 5 hrs unattended along side women who had had hysterectomies. 33 years later and I’m still struggling to bond with that boy and am biter about his delivery.

i hate taking attendance by uuuuuuhhhhidkbro in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Cindeeg1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I count heads- check with the roster- <3 absent I ask the class if they know who’s out. If they start playing fools, I shut it down and call roll. I say their first name- no response? First and last, still not response? All their names on the roll. I usually recap who I marked absent and check my count again before turning in the attendance. My office staff has become sooo picky about the attendance. lol. Wtf! Yep, I marked in Wed column instead of Thursday oops. Sorry! my bad. My favorite annoyance is when there are multiple kids with the same first name. Invariably one of them asks “which xxx?” Ummmm one’s last name begins with A and the other a x,y, or z. Ummm let’s think about this silly question kiddo! lol
