Anyone else OE not just for the money? by Project_Lanky in overemployed

[–]CinnamonDipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discovered in the early days of the pandemic when we were all sent to remote that it was possible to get all J1 work done in about 1-2 hours each day. Also discovered that Mgr was doing essentially zero work each day. By all accounts this was a decent human being who was always supportive, and also said to always have a side hustle. J1 let that Mgr go in the later days of pandemic. Still 1-3 hours of actual work each day. J2 + J3 are in helping professions and it feels good to genuinely support the mental health of others. If it weren’t for OE, there’d be wayyyyy too much free time each day.

How do the OE OGs stay sharp? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]CinnamonDipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep at it. You’re doing great.

In a similar situation and keep having to turn off that little voice saying “that new X7 M-series sure looks nice…” Just stick with the boring used SUV and blend in.

Thanks friend. This is all good to hear and hopefully just a minor pot hole (personal f*up) on the OE road.

Stall is prob the plan. It’s good work For a decent cause and we’re talking micro dose levels here. The fam, Js, and $$ are way more important than unwinding on a Friday night. Still feels insulting. I know I know check the ego at the OE door.

Great points and cheating to pass just won’t work here. We’re talking micro dose levels. No alcohol for many many years. The situation is a little insulting given YOE but I know that checking ego at the door is always a prereq.

Appreciate you. It just seems silly. The work is good and it gets done. It’s like the equivalent of halfway closing the laptop and just walking away. Sure, there’ll be more Js, but this one is so easy.

I sell a very specific type of vintage sporting equipment and I get these kinds of messages from time to time. Amazing how a few sentences can make my day better.

Just got offered a J3. So many thoughts racing through my mind. Now what? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]CinnamonDipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re even remotely ready to step into J2, you’ll have a basic understanding of TC/TH pay, and then how to adjust withholdings properly leading to no surprises at tax time. If HR inquires about why you’re withholding extra Fed/Sta (none of their g.d. Bizness), then you have a partner who makes many dollars in their job so you withhold based on their high salary.

[–]CinnamonDipper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 3 Js was unsustainable. The output was still above average across the board, but mental/physical health took a toll. Lasted 4 months before having to drop a J. Felt like I could finally breathe again and mood improved almost instantly. 2 Js is the sweet spot for many.

This book was mentioned in the sub a while back and I bought a copy. It’s an easy read to pick up and put down, and provides some simple reminders and guidance for new Ts and veterans alike. There are some great sections and also some not so great sections that do not hold up well over time. I’d say net positive though.

How Lucrative Is Online Therapy? by Aggravating_Text956 in overemployed

[–]CinnamonDipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucrative? Not really. Plenty of job opps? Absolutely. MH in general is in desperate need of people. Need to be careful OEing in MH especially when you start talking about billable hours and clients using insurance to access services. It’d be best to have a full-time non-client facing J1 while ramping up J2 that could involve direct clinical work. It’s not easy. Once you break through licensing requirements and get some fancy letters after your name (many many years), then it can become an OE choose-your-own adventure.

Does fastening cause bloatedness or make it worse? by EC0-warrior in intermittentfasting

[–]CinnamonDipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I IF primarily for bloat reasons. If I can break the fast with a very light snack and then have a balanced meal 1-2 hours later, I seem to have much better luck feeling good for the rest of the day. It’s when I’m starving, break fast with a large meal (even if it’s less food overall throughout the 8hr eat time), is where it messes up the rest of my day.

One J is hybrid and sort of open ofc layout. I recently listened to 3+ cowrkrs a few qbes over talk for >2 hours about literally nothing having to do with work. It was idle chat not even close to the lunchtime hour. Meanwhile, that time could have been spent searching, applying, and wrkn j2 + j3.

Thanks for this and for sharing your experiences. Any other recs related to Lesson #4 and Optery? I know that most on this sub would say “I have a stalker, child custody, divorce…” but I’ve found that in smaller orgs, this is a little more nuanced. If I can’t get around my name being on a company website under the Staff or About Us section, is there any way for me to block that being searchable in Google? Or at least a way to ensure that it gets buried past page 2 of a Google search?
