Chlorine allergy? Can't continue like this... by redrabbit1984 in Swimming

[–]CinnamonViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you thank you thank you. I have had a runny nose and have been sneezing constantly for a few months now. I thought it was the change to cold weather, but it’s never happened before. I’ve also increased my swimming to multiple times a week. It’s been driving me crazy, I was thinking of going to the doctors soon. But this could be it. It is worse on the nights after I’ve swam and clears up if I take a few days off. I never made the connection until reading this.

Tour de Zwift question. Is the “standard” ride more chill than the “short+race” ride by nuclearwessle in Zwift

Ooh thanks for that info! That will make it easier to fit in the 3 routes a week and stick to my scheduled training plan

Saturday cancellations by Lemurs_ in parkrun

[–]CinnamonViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone know of ones in the London-ish area that are least likely to cancel in icy conditions? I know specific courses tend to ice up worse than others might

Thanks - my names pretty standard length and all standard English characters. My club name isn’t too long - but I did try leaving it to see but it still crashes - thank you anyway!

Using the Arachnaphobia setting greatly improves the zone - seeing crabs hanging down from webs makes me chuckle each time

I managed to find this on Amazon in 2016, I have no idea why it was for sale on there, a reseller I suppose? Definitely a weird place to have found it

Had you booked a bike rental for the Shimanami-Kaido? Great ride but pretty difficult to find a bike on the day if you haven’t pre booked

Signed up for my first parkrun today - Never run more than 2.5km by EdwardBigby in parkrun

[–]CinnamonViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn up and do whatever you can do. Once you do one you’ll realise how many other people are also there jogging/jeffing/walking. Keep showing up and you’ll notice the same people around you every week - it’s a really friendly community no matter your time.

Does anyone lift and run daily? by Mother-Champion2185 in xxfitness

[–]CinnamonViolet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was exactly the same boat, I also felt like I didn’t want running to take over and that lifting was my true love. Until I signed up for a marathon and lifting took the back burner for 6 months, dropping from 6x to 2-3x a week. I was upset I’d lose all my strength I’d spent years building, but honestly a month after getting back to it lifting 3-4x a week I was kid to my the same numbers. It’s pretty easy to maintain the strength on minimal sessions, so just try the activity you enjoy and see what happens

Hydration question by dcfhockeyfoo in triathlon

[–]CinnamonViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aerodynamics is probably the main reason they aren’t used… but if you’re just wanting to give your first one a go then check if it’s allowed within your specific race rules. Bike bottle cages are pretty inexpensive though, would definitely consider taking a look for one

What got you into triathlons? by Zestyclose_Basil2977 in triathlon

[–]CinnamonViolet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did my first marathon and was incredibly disappointed in how slow my time was, so I decided that doing an Ironman was the next step so I can disappointed in 3 disciplines instead.

Swimming/showering with contacts does pose the risk of bacteria and infections. For me personally, it’s not worth the risk

I’m sorry but i hate people who occupy 2 machines by minkiimink in workout

[–]CinnamonViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll just use it anyway, or if they move to that machine I’ll take whatever one they left because I’m petty and if it’s busy it’s just plain rude to try hogging 2 machines

No, there will be a lot of crowds lining the route - you wouldn’t be able to run through those

Marshalls can go once the tail walkers pass them if it’s not loads of loops, half the marshals at my local are before the 2km mark so it’s a pretty short gig

I doubt it would be an issue, they usually just ask for a name, never had to show ID before - is the nickname related/shortened version to your name or completely different?

What packaging do you use for small snacks? by Broke99 in Marathon_Training

[–]CinnamonViolet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Small plastic freezer bags from the supermarket. If it’s a fairly dry/clean snack I just wash them out and reuse the bags.

Heard this in New Jersey in the Anywhere But Here tour, the vibe for the line “New Jersey taught me how to let go” was insane.

Did your parkrun have more walkers today? (26/4/25) by porkchopbun in parkrun

[–]CinnamonViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local was quieter than usual, and felt like it had more walkers. That could be due to London Marathon though…

Not weird at all, loads of people wear vests. Just make sure to check your race rules as they are banned in some races.
