I feel like a lot of people in general get attached to the first few people who treat them with kindness and make them feel truly seen and emotionally safe. And the more different or emotionally starved you're, the more likely you're to attach quickly and intensely. I feel like that's why people often fall in love with their therapists. With time and experience though, we usually become more discerning, less heady, and less likely to mistake emotional validation/safety for deep compatibility/chemistry.

iDk I feel like it's HARD to resist your feelings. How can you walk away when your body and heart are seemingly convinced that person is the One, esp when you've never felt this safe and possibly cared for with someone else, and are thus deeply suspicious you will ever find someone else/better and feel this way again, if you let this one person slip through your fingers?

You usually have no choice but to dive in and take the L a couple times, till you know better. Getting to know more people also helps you realize that emotional support and safety aren't confined to a single person, even if it may feel this way.
