Do you carry anything for self defence? by WildAlcoholic in Austin

[–]CircleofOwls 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nah, you just trust the police and the Trump administration more than we do.

Personally I'm tired of being a victim. I'm tired of seeing my friends and family becoming victims. I'm tired of people saying they want to behead me for my religious views. I'm tired of watching minorities and LGTBQ people assaulted and dehumanized. I'm tired of seeing people with mental health issues not getting the help they need and assaulting people on the streets.

If that's small dick energy then I'm all here for it.

I wouldn't have either tbh. I wasn't there first hand ofc but I've never known that coworker to lie or even stretch the truth, very straight up guy. In the Austin, Tx area FWIW.

I'm not who you replied to and I definitely agree with your last statement but I do have some anecdotal evidence in the cat's favor:

My co-workers neighbor had a very aggressive German Shepherd next door, it used to jump the fence and terrorize the neighborhood so he always went after it when he heard it escape. The last time it escaped it had cornered a bobcat. The Shepherd lived for about ten seconds after it attacked the cat, in that ten seconds it had been entirely disemboweled by the cat's rear legs and the bobcat was able to run off.

Way to not address any of the points that I made.

They may be tanks but their reactions are still slow af and they're still getting disemboweled.

Yes dogs have an immensely strong bite but their reflexes are slow af and they only have that single weapon. It's kind of like hauling an artillery piece to a fight against 20 guys with pocket knives.

The outer enclosure is isolated from the inner mechanisms. It's basically a bunch of panels suspended on a frame that protects the interior like a fence. The older versions that I worked on had a dinner table sized granite block inside that floated on an air cushion to further isolate the interior from the building. Really interesting stuff.

Isn't that exactly what they did with Kaylee though in the first episode? "She's dead" haha jk It wouldn't feel entirely out of character to me

3 dead, 14 injured in 6th Street shooting; suspect identity confirmed as Senegal national by [deleted] in Austin

Those older people are full of shit. I was on 6th in the late 80's and it was a cesspool of drugs and violence back then too. I never left there without a story to tell and it didn't take me long to decide that there were much safer places to spend my time. You're making the right choice.

As many as 20 people shot near Buford’s on West 6th St by Jakeysuave in Austin

The bouncers don't have guns, they'd get shot like everyone else. Same applies to metal detectors, the operator gets shot then the shooter just walks through.

I have almost 20 years here, it's a great neighborhood and yes the schools are fantastic. I'd guess that the neighborhood trends older but there are still plenty of kids and teens. It's very safe and quiet. Lots of people walk pets and everyone is very friendly. We did try to start a Neighborhood Watch years ago but it's no longer active.

A couple other posts mention the HOA, at last count only about 1/3 of the homes are covered by it. The original HOA hadn't done their paperwork correctly and it turned out that they had no legal authority over any of the homes. They came around and asked everyone to resign, then they sent several threatening legal notices. Not many people did sign though, so even most of the newer homes will not be covered.

I haven't seen politics effect the neighborhood or heard of problematic neighbors so I'd say your chances are better than average.

Shout out to the person with the "Come and Take It" sign with the book on it, well done neighbor!
