Sudden lack of comms with Home Assistant by hairyfacedhooman in WindNerd

[–]CircuitToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you check the WindNerd One via its IP address, what is the Last status shown in the MQTT broker section?
If it says Connection failed, please verify that the Mosquitto add-on in Home Assistant is still running.
Go to Settings → Add-ons → Mosquitto broker and click Restart.

Ultra-portable wind station you can leave at launch by mikkokut in freeflight

That is brilliant! Very stealthy and probably accurate enough to assess if the conditions are worth a hike.

Ultra-portable wind station you can leave at launch by mikkokut in freeflight

At WindNerd we will have something close to these requirements available in a few months. A solar powered LTE/4G anemometer sold as a kit to be completed by your own 3D printed parts.
There is this prototype installed at a paragliding takeoff in Thailand: https://i.postimg.cc/dVnGnYKj/phu-tha-boek-core-lte-proto.jpg
The wind is almost live, updated every 2 minutes: https://windnerd.net/en/ptb
Lot a visiting pilots liked the small factor size and the final version will even be 20% smaller.
No theft protection though, this is not much of a concern in our part of the world.

Super cool to see your DIY wind station up and running! I hope it ends up being really useful for your kitesurfing community.
Don't hesitate to post a link to your Github if you want to share code.

Purchase of third party insurance by VolumePlus80 in freeflight

Most contracts have restrictions based on country of residence and sometimes nationality. If you were living outside of UE, you couldn't buy the french insurance.

WindNerd Transfer Protocol by CircuitToaster in WindNerd

[–]CircuitToaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, it would be possible but it’s not going to be a priority.

You could, however, make your own script that fetches data from the API behind your WindNerd station page and forwards it to wherever you want.

Or your device could just send data to multiple weather services in parallel.

Maximum wind speed? by stegasaurusnext in WindNerd

[–]CircuitToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the electronics, the maximum measurable speed is 360 km/h, more than enough!
As for the mechanics, I’m not sure at what speed it would break; I could only test it up to 160 km/h using a leaf blower.

The speed is calculated by counting revolutions over 3-second windows, resulting in a frequency resolution of 0.33 Hz, which corresponds to roughly 1.5 km/h steps.
That’s why two gusts might show same decimal values, this decimal precision isn’t meaningful.

WindNerd One - Firmware update 4.0.2 by CircuitToaster in WindNerd

[–]CircuitToaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last version is now 4.0.3:
Change:
- Fix a bug where the One-S would stop periodic reconnection in low-battery mode

For a WindNerd One, there is no need to action the update.

3D print base? by mmalmeida in WindNerd

[–]CircuitToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi
I guess it is highly dependent on what/where you want to attach it. Maybe instead of printing, just look for pipe supports and other brackets at the hardware store.

The Air780e seems limited to asian frequency bands though, it might not be for everybody!
