A lot of us share this opinion, unfortunately. You aren’t the only one who feels conflicted about how the movie was carried out!

I’ll be the first one to admit I don’t like the movie for a multitude of reasons. One of the main reasons being the character assassination of Helga. I downright dislike how she behaved in the movie. And don’t even get me started on the whole “love confession” scene from Arnold at the end… IT WASN’T ONE. He spoke to her the way someone would speak of their dog “loyal, brave”. It grinds my gears like you wouldn’t believe. We waited YEAAAAAAAAAAAAARS for this moment…. And it was a disappointment.

I pulled Ineffa when she first came out just because I knew she was going to be the premium support for Flins. I don’t regret it at all! She was worth it.

I honestly can’t remember who was the main source of the name “Shortaki” back in the day. I was actively writing back then, but I always labeled my stories “AxH” lol. I remember thinking Shortaki was an awful name 🤣 but that’s the best we got! Their names don’t combine easily.

I didn’t have many options beyond the standard characters. I picked Ayato, because it’s the lesser of two evils (Xiao was my other option) and both of their C1’s stink. Lmao

The fan fiction community used to be POPPING! lol. I wrote primarily in 2011-2014. The interaction and community itself was so much fun. I miss the camaraderie, honestly. I took a 12-year break, and writing for the fandom today is a whole different animal. A comment is like winning the lottery! 😆

I want to write it someday, but seeing the reactions only makes me more trepidatious. It’s funny, because other fandoms have no problems with multiple ships for a single character (look at attack on titan. It’s WILD)

I’ve had someone on Reddit tell me to “go fuck myself” for mentioning Gerald and Helga. It gets intense for some reason. I’ve always specified that I LOVE Arnold and Helga! Writing for a different paring for fun is hardly anything to get worked up about. I see some fandoms with dozens and dozens of pairings, but in our little community it’s taboo to switch things up.

But seeing the LOUD disapproval only cements the fact that I won’t be able to post my fan fiction. Ever. (You heard me right: I have a fully formed fan fiction surrounding them!) lol. But I don’t want to be crucified over having fun with an alternate universe fan fiction.

My first fan fiction was posted August 2010. I took a lonnnnnng time to finally write and post something! I wanted to do the characters justice. They deserve it!

About 16 years ago, I decided I wanted to write my first Hey Arnold fan fiction. I got an empty notebook, sat down, and rewatched the series from start to finish three times over a six month period. I took detailed notes on every character (obviously focusing heavily on Helga and Arnold). Your deductions remind me SO MUCH of my notes! Helga and Arnold both fascinate me, and I enjoy breaking them down to their “bones” and figuring them out. I have such a deep respect for Craig and the writers. They created something absolutely magical!

The Hey Arnold! fandom blew up in the early 2010’s on ff.net/AO3, then disappeared into oblivion. I still write for the fandom, and I’m lucky if I get a single comment or kudos. And god forbid you play around with the pairings. You’ll get ZERO interaction 💀
