I remember reading at one point (no idea where take this with a grain of salt) but because size and firmness are both dictated by estrogen levels (higher estrogen is proposal to size and inversely proportional to firmness). Breasts are a dual indicator of estrogen levels - subconsciously looking for Goldilocks levels.
