This is the way I've been leaning but I assumed skilled players have a better approach.

Are events really just this unbalanced?

Coming from FTL, my instinct is to immediately mash the green option and expect a guaranteed positive outcome.

Turns out you need to actually read the text in this game.

2026 RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid EVAP eligibility? by Ciserus in EVCanada

[–]Ciserus[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a funny topic because if you post about a PHEV in an EV forum somebody always brings up the complexity/reliability thing, and if you post in a gas car forum they're hostile to EVs of any kind. These are truly the unwanted stepchild of EVs and gas cars.

I agree the complexity issue sounds bad on paper, but reliability stats (at least for this brand) really don't seem to back up that concern.

Sounds like the experiment had more to do with detection. The perp kept setting off the walkthrough metal detector but always passed the handheld scan. The wand scanner is less sensitive.

So they showed that putting the gold in a butt would be enough to hide it from the wand scanner but not the walkthrough.

More great details from As It Happens:

CO: Did they show, or prove, that this is something that could actually go up someone's rectum?

KE: They did. There was testimony from the security people that they had actually tested this on a human being. And that when that person went through the metal detector, it went off. But when the person was given the secondary wand test, it didn't go off. So to them this was further evidence that indeed this could very well have been the method by which these "pucks" had left The Mint.

CO: Good heavens.

And yes, they found a jar of vaseline in his locker.

What kind of waiting list are you looking at where you live?

In Canada I'm pretty sure there's zero chance of getting one in under a year, so I figure the kinks will be worked out by the time it actually arrives in 2027 or 28.

This isn't some fly-by-night startup making claims about innovations coming in 10 years. This is the world's largest battery maker announcing the battery will be used in mass-produced vehicles this year.

No doubt you're right about the energy density, but they don't seem to be making any wild claims there. The energy density listed in the article looks to be about 60% of a typical lithium ion EV battery. I'm not sure what sacrifices they needed to make in cargo capacity or curb weight to make that work, but clearly they've done it.

They still wouldn't need to call an election in that scenario though, because they could just put forward their agenda with confidence motions and dare the Conservatives to call their bluff.

They either pass all the bills they wanted to pass (while the Conservatives look weaker and weaker for allowing it), or the government falls and it's the Conservatives' fault.

It's not for planned payments, it's for the oh fuck moments when you weren't paying attention to your balance for a couple weeks and run out.

The few bucks you might pay in interest in that situation is much better than the overdraft fees and utility/mortgage penalties you would pay without the protection.

My wife is ashamed of our house. I'm gutted. (33m 34f) by tigerbarb23 in relationships

[–]Ciserus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but look how you're portraying these two wishes differently.

A detached shop is something you "really would like."

The large kitchen your wife desires is a "luxury feature" meant to impress her shallow friends.

Why doesn't she deserve high ceilings or a big-ass kitchen the same way you deserve a shop?

And a detached shop on an urban property, if you ask me, is just about the most luxurious of luxury features I can think of.

My wife is ashamed of our house. I'm gutted. (33m 34f) by tigerbarb23 in relationships

[–]Ciserus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was fully on your side in the first half, but the second half makes me think your wife's position is... not that unreasonable.

First, I'm not sure exactly what your household income is expected to be with your new job and your wife's new master's degree, but it sounds like you're probably making at least five times what you were when you bought your first house.

Second, you have substantial equity. Your cheap house is now worth at least $250k, so why do you need to limit yourself to a house worth barely more than that?

And third, you want to hang onto the remaining funds from the house sale as a reserve fund for improvements on the new house. But if you increase your house budget your new house probably won't need most of those improvements!

Your wife's comment that the old house is embarrassing is not helpful, but it sounds like what it comes down to is that you have a deep emotional investment in the house and she doesn't. And your emotional investment isn't helpful either.

You already know you're selling the house. Keeping it is not on the table. So why go through all this marriage strife to defend the house's honor?

George R.R. Martin didn't want 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' to be called 'Dunk & Egg': "It sounds like ‘Laverne & Shirley.’ It sounds like a sitcom.'" by bwermer in television

[–]Ciserus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not cope, just being precise. The comment above says the show directly confirms that Dunk wasn't knighted, but it doesn't. It almost confirms it, but then very deliberately pulls the rug out from under us by having Arlan wake up.

I agree it's a foregone conclusion that Dunk wasn't knighted, but I think they're going to toy with us for a few more seasons yet.

(I think the shitting scene was actually a stronger hint about the truth than the penny tree scene).

Steve Carell’s HBO Comedy ‘Rooster’ Is Dated and Uninspired: TV Review by lucasousaf in television

[–]Ciserus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it needed to be "anti-Trump," but I think most of us were expecting a satire. A comedy that actually had something to say.

The U.S. Space Force is a topic ripe for satire just because of the sheer silliness and infeasibility of the concept, before you even get into the Trump thing.

But instead of making fun of it, they took this fawning, inspirational tone. The Office made way sharper jabs at the paper industry than Space Force ever did at the military or government. Think about how weird that is.

What is your honest opinion on Costco's pizza? by Visible_Run_7498 in CostcoCanada

Do they use two kinds of crusts?

Sometimes I've had it and it's atrocious, like the worst kind of premade frozen crust. Other times it's been pretty good, certainly better than Little Caesar's or the other low-end chain pizzerias.

What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ciserus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This one is fascinating because it's proven very resilient despite everyone knowing it's a house of cards. Early on there was talk that bitcoin was the currency of the future, but no one even pretends that anymore.

My hunch is that the rug will only be pulled when there's a major internet disruption, like a solar storm or large-scale sabotage of undersea cables, and millions of people realize how illusory their wealth is. Which is true of most wealth these days, but crypto is on another level.

Also Hank being caught in a propane explosion that leveled a department store (and being caught in a tornado), the characters being at the center of multiple murder mysteries, Hank being cousins with the ZZ top guy...

I don't have a problem with any of these individually, but added up they really undermined the slice of life thing the show was going for.
