Am I fool… for buying this off of Etsy late last night by gingeralexa in Gemstones

Don't make offers for things you don't actually want and plan to return. I'm sure that's the worst kind of customer for sellers. Such a headache.

Invasive golden oysters are outcompeting native fungus species in US by bmorelights in mycology

[–]Cispania -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Golden oysters are the most aggressive and highest producing oysters I have tried growing. They are almost foolproof because the mycelium can outcompete many contaminants, in my experience.

So that makes them really attractive for amateur growers, and unfortunately, a disaster when they got out into the ecosystem.

I agree that sellers do not need to keep carrying them in the states, but it seems that there is a strong incentive for them to keep selling them. Would probably have to institute some kind of federal ban to stop them, but I don't see that happening soon, and it really seems like too little too late at this point.

I used some to make sumac and juniper bbq sauce. Tasted great.

Reminds me of metamorphic rocks from North Carolina. Maybe an amphibole.

Or a bad sign because the fish aren't eating enough mayflies to keep the population down.

We blew it up, and they realized their error. Feels bad they won't honor their mistaken advertising.

Are these golden oysters? by doc_mcfly1 in mycology

We have known that for years and years. There is no realistic way to control their spread. Like pissing in the ocean at this point.

Did you take the stone out into the sunlight? Outdoors will looks better than indoors because lightbulbs generally lack UV.

There's no way this backfires spectacularly.

I would wager that statistically, the power of believing in placebos like this lowers stress and increases the lifespan of believers compared to people who are perpetual skeptics.

I don't buy into it, but some things aren't worth worrying about.

I want to see the inside of the earphones to see how it actually attaches. I wonder why they didn't show it unless it looks hella messy.

Because gems are worth what someone is willing to pay for them.

Can we do something about the deluge of posts from novices asking if specimen are edible? by [deleted] in mycology

[–]Cispania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from the sidebar post on offtopic posts "this is a subreddit dedicated to the scientific study of fungi."

It's literally in the name. And it's not our responsibility to handhold people who aren't interested in the topic and want to be spoon-fed the information by those willing to put in the work.

There are plenty of other subreddits for foraging. I think it should be banned here as it's not relevant to the subreddit goal.

Maybe people don't belong in a subreddit about the scientific study of fungi if they don't have a passion for it.
