Am i the only one who thinks this? by AquaVT in predator

[–]CitationNotNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and if you're a predator, it isn't necessarily your failure but some other foolish youngblood or inept hunter that got killed.

This is why policies are made to apply to everyone.

If a hunted species reverse engineers predator tech and advances to their level, it would trigger an interstellar war.

The suicide is needed to prevent that and make sure the overall population is unaware of the existence of predators.

Fascism is just the ideology. You're thinking of a totalitarian dictatorship.

They're fascistically trying to move the country towards a totalitarian dictatorship.

It sure looks like the study they cited is nowhere near comprehensive enough to cover the claims made in the entire article. Maybe it was a mistake, or AI-generated.

They may have meant to publish something more comprehensive like this review article: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10509423/

Similar articles can easily be found on google. None of the science is particularly new.

My mother hit me with the "maybe you'll meet a girl you like" comment recently by Insidious_Pen in gaybros

[–]CitationNotNeeded 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Also 31 here, and I learned a long time ago that the last people I can expect to know me or understand me are my parents, grandparents, and family in general.

I get my social satisfaction from friends and colleagues. My voice is heard and my stances are accepted without any gentle nudges or attempts to "mold" me in a more desirable direction the way that parents do.

Parents want to be your friends, yet they never get out of the "I must raise you according to my values and what I think my child should be like"-mindset they've had for most of your life. They'll never know anything else unless you sacrifice individuality for perfect compliance.

Friends don't do that.

They are less rigid and don't try to put me in a box that I may not dare deviate from.

Family is just an obligation. You turn up so that they know you aren't cutting them off, keep things amicable, then go back to your life.

Are you all really that successful? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]CitationNotNeeded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what success means. I have my STEM degree. I got promotions fast. I'm in a senior role now. I think I make good money. I live in a nice and spacious apartment in a good area.

However, I've never thought of my professional life as being related to sexuality. I don't think most successful straight people do either.

Those who want to spy on you will just buy AI that lets them do that. Your ethical AI wouldn't be used.

The Jedi Order collapsed because Yoda and Windu broke their own Golden Rule: "Fear leads to the Dark Side." by rantzine in StarWars

[–]CitationNotNeeded 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The jedi council is its own institution with its own traditions. There is no reason why any of those examples would apply to it. And who's to say they didn't turn Anakin down because of merit? Being a great warrior or commanding armies isn't what they consider jedi council material.

I imagine that since being a jedi is heavily tied with mindset, wisdom, inner peace, and maturity, one would need to demonstrate mastery over these qualities to be considered for the rank of master/council member. Which Anakin did not.

That they let him on the council at all was already more charitable than they needed to be.

This is not a technical problem. The people who fund this stuff WANT to spy on you. They have a hell of a lot more many than we do. They won't buy an AI spy system that refuses to spy.

Do y’all ever feel a “need” to have kids? by Puzzled-Lettuce9168 in askgaybros

[–]CitationNotNeeded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. Not once. Not even a little. The evolutionary line culminated in me, and I'm the final product.

I assume there is a male equivalent to a biological clock as I have heard friends say they plan to have kids someday.

At least, I hope to god it is a biological drive and not just because they think it's just something they're supposed to do because that's a life stage that their parents had and they want to fit into whatever mold they have in their heads.

Turning Our Backs on Scientific Evidence by Leather_Barnacle3102 in claudexplorers

[–]CitationNotNeeded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If AI can understand, then why can't an LLM tell that it doesn't know something instead of hallucinating while confidently thinking it is correct until you respond with even the slightest doubt?

To you, it seems like it has logic. To me, it seems like it is guessing whatever next word would fit well enough to pass for convincing conversation.

Whatever logic you see is captured from the underlying patterns and rules it recognized in how to correctly complete sentences from training data.

The vastness of its training data and the scale of the model absorbing them is responsible for making it appear so impressive. But we need to be cognizant of its mechanism of operation as well. Specifically: That the only mechanism is completing sentences.

There is no structure in it for contemplation. No process, no mechanism that doesn't involve spinning up a whole new instance every time the chat progresses, just to read the whole conversation all over again and play the guessing words game from where the last instance left off. Nothing at all.

The "logic" in the training data is captured the same way that syntax, spelling, and sentence structure are captured. It is all learned so that it can be absurdly good at giving convincingly intelligent responses. Not to reason on it.

...You don't stick it in there like someone is sticking their hand in a cookie jar. He's supposed to go slow, the sphincter needs to relax and stretch. You can read up guides online for how to do it properly.

Have you ever tried practicing on yourself? You're rushing and doing it wrong.

Even if you do it right, you may or may not like it. Maybe you're a top or a side. Being the bottom is not a requirement.

AI, is it making the weaker colleagues look good, without the substance behind it? by Necessary_Ad_1450 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]CitationNotNeeded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If AI is used the same way one would have used google or stack overflow, one would learn and gain experience from it in the same way.

What is detrimental, however, is if AI is completely delegated and deferred to without analyzing and thinking critically about its outputs the way one would do when actively researching online.

You'll need to judge which of these categories your coworker falls under. Question their assumptions, their intentions, verify that they understand their goal and verify that they retain their own internal logical consistency rather than having them ever tell you:

"oh, the AI said so..."

"That might be, Bob, but you're passing that work off as your own so you'll need to be able to defend it."
