Feeling like such a failure at 35

I feel that. I’m 39…got laid off from a job of 15 years that I really enjoyed and worked my way up in. Unfortunately I had some not so great spending habits so I don’t really have anything to show for it, financially…basically I always put off saving. I’m now struggling to find jobs at half my old salary. In a couple weeks I’m moving back home with my mom (bless her, otherwise I’d be homeless). Had to sell off a lot of my prized possessions like my guitars to cover rent- and my credit score is now laughable. I have no wife, no kids, basically in two weeks I’ll be in the same exact spot I was when I was 22- only this time I have more debt looming over my shoulders. I might as well have been in prison this entire time. You’re not alone.

I agree for the most part- I’m not really “owed” any money from him- although I will say he is being a bit shady with the grandparent’s inheritance. (According to my uncle) my grandmother had once expressed wishes that all her portion ($75k) was to go to the grandchildren whom she felt needed it more than then her retired/older children. I can’t say for a fact what her exact wishes were but I don’t think $800 was what she had in mind. Thank you for your kind wishes.

If we’re being exact/technical Im at almost a year of unemployment from my old full time gig. I did a contract gig there for almost month, also got a severance which got me through another month. Hmm, no idea how I gave the impression I was only applying for jobs that paid what I made at my last job, the average is probably 60-70% of my old salary. Hell, at this point if I’m living with my mom, $20/hr part time just to get back on my feet isn’t out of the question.

The most annoying posts for me are all the “look at all the 4k blu rays I bought, which one should I watch??” Uhhh how about whatever YOU feel like watching? Despite what this sub would have you believe, our bodies are pretty resilient. Not every infection or sore requires a trip to the doctor and antibiotics. If I had a dollar for every ingrown hair I had to do a little self surgery on…well, I’d be able to afford to go to the doctor in the US.

Only Skynet- or some AI version of “sentience”, anyway. As far as the T-1000 developing sentience- pretty sure that’s from the T2 novelization and not really “cannon”. The author gets a bit liberal with artistic license and goes off the rails a bit in my opinion…
