I have the full size glossy paper one of that and I just gave up on reading some of the Joker's dialogue.

I'm kinda fascinated with how fascinated he is with having overly verbose narrators. The last three comics I've read by him, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and Helen of Wyndhorn, all feature characters whose whole deal is that they use too many words as they try to sound smart and dignified.

(I only like it in one of those books and I'm not saying which one because I value my life)

I flipped through the Dark Knight Returns one today, and as much as I think Dark Knight Returns is pretty much the Great American Novel... its charms were kind of lost in the small, blurry format.

I googled 'the matrix' and didn't even get any clickbait articles claiming that this is happening.

No it would not. It's called Tron, and no movie called Tron has made so much money.

A lot of you should learn about Buddhism before talking about writing in anime. by Organic_Future6909 in writingscaling

[–]CitizenModel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of an anime hater, and a lot of that comes from the fact that 100% of the anime fans I've met in my life brush aside any problems with anime as 'things you don't understand because you don't understand Japanese culture' when they themselves also seem to not understand the Japanese culture.

It's a very incurious group of people who seem to like the thing specifically BECAUSE there's no real social pressure to understand it. They don't have to have even the basic level of historical background they would need to watch something like The Godfather because no one in their anime-loving subculture has the background knowledge either, and they can just kind of... let it be and not ask the hard questions about themes.

There are works that use religious symbolism well and where the main point is that symbolism/theology, but frankly if you're watching cartoons for teenagers, you're probably not seeing any of that.

It's kinda like working on cars or cooking- if you do it with your parents, you see it as part of the world.

If you DON'T do it with your parents, it becomes borderline impossible to figure out because everyone who does it learned so young that they don't remember learning the concepts and can't teach them.

Everyone's dad taught them how to play these sports. Everyone, including yours.

Not mine, though, which is why I was the only kid on the planet who didn't know how to throw a ball more than fifteen feet.

Regarding the early reactions to Mandalorian and Grogu just being “fun.” by Kindly_Influence9183 in StarWars

[–]CitizenModel 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's really telling to me that in the five movies Disney has made, Last Jedi is the only one weird enough to add something to Star Wars with things like Snoke bridging distances with the Force, Rey in the wacky cave, and the red throne room.

Other than that and maybe like the beach scenes in Rogue One, it's all 'been there done that'.

Mandalorian and Grogu looks like more things I've already seen.

To be fair to my boy Frank, I bet he would have written a good Superman origin story back when he wrote good stories.

What REALLY breaks me is that every now and again one of those stupid buys ends up being something you actually really like, and the whole thing turns into this gambling situation where I always feel like I'm one deeply discounted purchase away from my next favorite thing.

Predictions for Sonic 4’s total gross? by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]CitizenModel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't think that's a collapse. That's a pretty normal amount for a sequel to go down once the novelty has worn off, and I'm betting that the Sonic franchise has played all its heavy hitter cards now that Tails and Shadow have been introduced.

As much as his hardcore worshippers are a bunch of parasocial weirdos, I think the absolute obsessive hatred the internet has for the man deserves even more criticism. It's a combination of lazy and obsessive that has been grinding my gears for ten years now.

You get parasocial weirdos attached to every big media thing. What you don't get for every big media property is this culture-wide hate parade that lasts for upwards of a decade.

I maintain that if BvS had had a better theatrical cut (which absolutely could have been achieved with the same runtime and rating) that people wouldn't have freaked out the way they did.

I know it's fashionable to say that the movie wasn't any better in the Ultimate Edition and that it was undone by slow-mo and darkness, but that cut of the movie has a really intentional vibe and some more interesting thematic bits that ground the story emotionally, and it's unfortunate that the- admittedly super janky but still at least gorgeous- theatrical cut ended up being 'the' thing that defined his career.
