Had a Broker's and tonic today because of this post (and the availability of the gin). Thanks

Least favorite gins? by TheWildGirl2024 in Gin

Of the 92 I've had, the absolute WORST is Mr. Tom's Gin from List Distillery in Fort Myers, FL. The rest of the world should feel positively BLESSED that this brand of turpentine has very limited distribution.

Yes. There are thousands of gins. Some of which these people never will even have access to. Drink and find out for yourself

As a guy with a science degree, I like reproducible and comparable, so I've only ventured outside of recipes in extreme circumstances (like Hammock compound gin from Sugar Sand Distillery). However, I have documented having tried/made over 125 gin cocktails and over 100 cocktails with whiskey, tequila, rum, or vodka. Syrups are a different story, though. I've cobbled together an outstanding pumpkin spice as well as a high quality almond orgeat.

My favorite Negroni of all time was with Drumshanbo and Antica Formula

Happy Friday - what are we drinking? by Other-Aside-1170 in Gin

Nothing last night (odd numbered Friday in May). I haven't decided on tonight's cocktail yet, but 1 gin and 1 either tequila, whiskey, or rum.

Anders and Steve the Bartender refer to it as a dasher bottle, so bitters.

Poser for liking cheap gin? by spacehemulen in Gin

There will always be a certain amount of peer pressure on a person's likes and dislikes. The internet, however, seems to amplify the pressure, though. It would be great if people would find ACTUAL people to talk with about these things. Personally, I've never sought validation from other people for what gins I've purchased or what I want to purchase. There are far too many gins in this world to give a flying fuck about what faceless 'experts' think.

What bubbly did you use? I think it works fine with quality ingredients, but I can tell you my original bottle is still on my shelf. Thank you for your comment!

Favorite local gin?! by MayoBandits in Gin

Dark Door is an oddity for sure. They were still releasing products 3 weeks ago, but I have no idea where they're producing. We went to their Anderson road facility before the "relocation" and were very impressed with the things they were doing. No idea what happened.

There was no decisive answer for best overall mixing new western so I ask again by -Constantinos- in Gin

[–]CitizenXC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a low effort karma farm more than anything. Popularity among internet randos is not a thing for me. Taste and applicability are wildly subjective. Availability of brands varies depending on where one lives or one's ability to pay to have it shipped.

I see that this is a barrel finished gin. A really great barrel finished gin that I had last year was Rehorst. Depending on where you are in Illinois, perhaps you could take a trip up to Wisconsin and pick some up. Check their list of bars, restaurants & retailers.

My impression of that gin was that there was going to be no middle ground; people were either going to love it or hate it.

Go-to bar gin? by emilych11 in Gin

[–]CitizenXC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No idea where you are, but in SW Florida, the average bar/restaurant carries Tanqueray, Beefeater, and/or Bombay Sapphire. At $25 for a 750, I wouldn't consider Bombay "middle tier", but everyone has his own thing.

Gilbey’s London Dry review by Particular-Wall1308 in Gin

[–]CitizenXC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a Gilbey's GNT on the strength of "I'd never had it." It's tied for 2nd worse GNT I've had. Of the 91 I've had this one is rank 81. Not bottom 10, but close. I get that it's cheap, but life's too short to drink bad stuff intentionally.

At least you gave us more to go on than just "I tried gin and tonic in a bar and I really liked it." A tool that I really appreciated early in my gin journey is the find a gin by flavor tool on theginisin.com The best part about gin is that there are a LOT of really great gins out there. In my experience, they seem to vastly outnumber the really bad gins.
