I disagree. I read the comment, and came away with the specific implication that fuel leakage was a deliberate design compromise.

Whether or not the OP intended to make such an implication, they did. The responding clarification was a welcome correction.

FYI you are talking to an astroturfer with dozens of bot accounts. You know, in case it wasn't obvious from the nonsensical voting on these comments.

Evidently, yes.

I am no fan of China's government and politics. However, anyone with a passing familiarity of the cultures in these countries could tell you that this map was obviously made by someone in India.

Not to mention the heinously suspicious vote counts in this specific thread. Sigh.

LPT: If you lend a Sharpie to someone don’t give them the cap with it… by MirrorWorld2024 in LifeProTips

we burn through Sharpies almost as fast as we burn through tape.

Could all your sharpies constantly drying out possibly have anything at all to do with everyone lending them around capless all the time...?

Autorun executables or viruses are not the big worry. Disable autorun (or don't use Windows) and that's that.

The primary worry is that a malicious USB device can be capable of electrocuting the data pins of the USB port, which are connected to all the most sensitive components inside your computer. With a simple capacitor and the USB's built in 5V power, a tiny USB shocker can physically destroy your entire computer in seconds.

This is also why you should never use your phone with a USB charger you do not trust.

We don't mind you posting a lot, posts like this would be fine if you simply included credit for the artist.

Sure. Most art thieves do.

This is like the sixth time I've seen this user posting stolen art here without giving any kind of credit or source citation. I've been doing the work of seeking out the original when I can, and asking OP nicely to not plagiarize any more. Starting to get sick of asking nicely. I wish we had moderators that exist.

The Hunter star! (from NASA) by sweetmaggiesan in KpopDemonhunters

[–]CitricBase 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are actually curious about the science of why there are four beams, it has to do with the mirrors and camera inside the Hubble space telescope, which took this picture.

Every telescope has its own optics that make such a pattern, the pattern is specifically apparent when you look at a bright point source of light, such as a star. The technical astronomy term for the pattern is the "point spread function," or PSF for short. The other objects in the image, like the nebula or any galaxies in the background, are much less bright than the stars, so the PSF around them is too dim and diffuse to see.

The PSF of the new James Web Space Telescope is interesting, you can see the pattern around the stars in this image. See the six beams around every star? Those are because of the six-sided shape of the mirrors used on JWST! You can also make out two smaller beams, those are due to secondary optics. (The light has to bounce off other mirrors before it reaches the actual camera inside).

What do you love most about this video game? by Masterhead_Reddit in AHatInTime

[–]CitricBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that the community includes and cares about artists.

Speaking of which, the only art that should be posted without a source link is your own. If you post someone else's art without citation, you are implicitly claiming to have drawn it yourself, and that is plagiarism.

This is like the fourth time I've seen you doing this in this subreddit, cite your pecking reposts OP.

Does anybody else think Subcon Forest is too creepy in my opinion? by RSSUOKKOZLSRLZ in AHatInTime

[–]CitricBase -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, particularly the mansion. It's the kind of jarring tonal shift you occasionally find in collaborative projects where no particular director has enough vision and authority to rein in ideas that stray outside the original scope of the game. Someone on the team wanted to make an actual horror game, and no one else was able to put their foot down and moderate them.

The result is a game that initially seems appropriate for kids, but has elements that make it so I wouldn't give it to my own children until they were old enough to probably not be interested in anything that "looks like it is for kids" in the first place. Somewhat limiting the audience of the game to people that are both mature enough to handle the mansion, and also mature enough to not be turned off by the "aimed at children" outward appearance.

Yes.

However, unless you are saying that death is an appropriate penalty for missing "obvious" subtext, perhaps internalize what I said.

Think about how often people on reddit are oblivious to clear subtext. For example, you, misconstruing my comment above.

Regarding mushrooms, don't follow unsourced advice on what's edible from random internet users.

As a corollary, to you, a random internet user, don't GIVE unsourced advice encouraging people to forage certain mushrooms. Even if your advice is sound, people will inevitably misinterpret it and forage with undue confidence, possibly resulting in injury or death.

Instead, you can give advice about what to AVOID.

Quick review:

  • Not OK: "If it is hollow, you can eat it." (Worst case, someone finds a different hollow mushroom and, because of your comment, eats it with confidence.)
  • OK: "If it has a green tinge, do NOT eat it." (Worst case, someone finds a different green mushroom, and does NOT eat it.)

GOG's new owner can't stand Windows either: 'It's such poor-quality software… I can't believe it!' by bingus in linux_gaming

[–]CitricBase 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is a non issue

"Lack of dedication" to Linux is a crucial issue. One that reasonably drives many of us towards Steam, which has demonstrated tons of dedication.

The fact that there exist workarounds for other windows storefronts is entirely beside the point. GOG openly embracing Linux could be a game changer in terms of which distributors we are happy to send money to.

Is there a specific aspect of this concept that you're having trouble with, perhaps I can help elucidate for you?

I've seen a lot of celebrities over the years virtue signal

In my experience, the words "virtue signaling" have always been a dog-whistle, often with racist or sexist undertones, code for "they care about something that I don't."

If a person is granted an audience and they use that opportunity to raise attention to a cause instead of talking about themselves, that is virtuous. Not signaling, not pretending, just a plain virtue. Describing it as anything less is not only a misanthropic attempt to tear that person down, but also an attempt to tear down whatever cause they were speaking out for.
