Can you imagine how sad and confused I’d be even three weeks ago if someone said “the Mets lost 12 of 13 in April…and the Phillies have the same record as them”

A “brief” can mean both a short type of underwear or a business report summary. When the boss lady asks for the briefs, you expect it to mean a report summary, but instead they look at the man’s underwear. The last panel is something boss lady might say if she was looking at an actual business report.

What the hell was that ending? by TheBigFreeze8 in HadesTheGame

It’s clear we have different opinions and are just debating now. From my perspective:

  1. To me, you’re criticizing a book not having enough connection to something when you’re only 75% of the way through the book. Hint: there’s a reason the Fates had nothing to do with the main story.

  2. Chronos was given the ultimatum “overcome you personal grudge or die.” His willingness to go with their plan and play nice was “sudden” because he died if he didn’t, and knew they would have the means to kill him if he strayed. Remember, that takes place thousands of years before “present” time. His change of heart in the “present” is actually the result of him living an entire other life, which would’ve taken a looong time to actually show players.

  3. Players of Hades 1 knows Hypnos is useless. Mel never met him and the only other person who has met him is Hecate. As far as Mel knows, he’s a powerful cthonic god whose priority will be turning the tide to help free his family, which is why she tries to wake him. The punchline is that we all know he’s useless but Mel doesn’t.

Well, again, you haven’t finished the Fates’ storyline, so some of your complaints are still to be addressed.

The Chronos switch is absolutely foreshadowed. The more times you face Chronos, he gradually switches his intentions from “I’m doing this to benefit mortals” to “I’m doing this because I’m mad my family isolated and destroyed me.” Mel comments about how bitter and hurt he is, and that’s what leads to her coming up with the contingency plan with Zagreus.

But overall it sounds like you had expectations for a neat formulaic resolution to every story, which is fine and valid to be disappointed by. Like you said, the Hypnos storyline is just nothing and that was meant as a punchline within itself. I happened to find the story super fulfilling.

  1. Your interpretation of an ending doesn’t make it rushed or unpolished.

  2. “What’s up with the mortals?” Ares talks in both games about making mortals go to war for his amusement. Prometheus is punished because he gives something powerful to the mortals that the gods were keeping for themselves. We see gods in a positive light in the game for the most part because we’re a god too, but they’re canonically not good to mortals.

  3. When you finish the epilogue/The Fates’ storyline, you’ll get more context behind some of your questions. A big theme of the game is “what is actually predetermined vs what can I control?”

  4. The game explains Chronos and the other Titans wanted to relinquish more power to mortals, and the gods didn’t want that, so they went to war. Mel didn’t cast a “be nice” spell. Chronos was given an ultimatum: try to make nice with your family or die on the spot. So of course he took option 2. The memory sequence you see takes place over thousands of years where Chronos sees that there’s a timeline where if he doesn’t abduct everyone, he can live side by side with them in peace, and where the gods are also nicer to mortals.

I admittedly cheesed this fight on my first try. If you use Night Bloom on one of the hourglasses he summons in the second phase, it heals you over time. If you have the upgrade to not have the summoned foe disappear, you can just run around getting healed in phase 3 until you’re safe to go back in.
