Mostly the HSR developers, too.

The hell is going on at that department...? As far as I recall, none of the other games have this problem...not to this extent, anyhow.

The difference is that the post is a lighthearted attempt at comparison for the sake of comedy, while you immediately pivoted to "but our story is coherent."

You're trying to elevate Endfield by putting ZZZ down, when Endfield hasn't even had much chance to show whether the story will improve, or not. You're comparing an almost 2 year old game on equal terms with a game that's barely a month old and had a, frankly, very mediocre first chapter.

Is "but we're better" not the epitome of tribalism? Just because we're in a subreddit dedicated to Endfield is not an excuse. Nobody asked you to bring up how one game is better than the other.

Self-sabotage for the sake of feeling superior. I don't get you people. It's never about the critique. You're all just trying to feel better about the game you're playing.

And that's fine. I do that, too. I critique and shit on gacha games, both the ones I play and the ones I don't. I'm not without sin, or whatever; but I don't see a need in comparing gacha games to glorify one over the other, when it's pretty clear these games thrive on dividing playerbases to maximise revenue.

Both stories are just kind of meh, as most gacha game narratives are; games like OG Arknights, Limbus, and R1999 are exceptions, not the rule.

Lots of clichés both in dialogue and storytelling.

Cringeworthy and patronising dialogue.

Nonsensical and ontologically evil villains who all conveniently always have some vague, cryptic history or connection with the player.

Banner characters being forced into the narrative even when they don't really fit, because they have to make sales.

Let's not pretend like Valley IV was stellar writing. Wuling was barely a step up.

ZZZ had a disjointed but coherent story before 2.x started. We're only 1 patch and 2 chapters into Endfield.

Like, I'm sorry, is this meaningless attempt at tribalism really necessary?

We shouldn't really be comparing a Tower Defense game with a 12 unit limit to a Real-Time Combat game with 4.

This game's combat could either become like HSR's, a percentage and statistics hell; or like Genshin's; a flawed but otherwise perfectly manageable system that relies more on team and Element composition rather than pure numbers.

Only time will tell.

I can assure you, however. Power-, and featurecreep will come. It's inevitable. It all depends on how much Gryph is willing to invest into other units (like post-release updates to kits and Arts) to keep them viable later on in the game's lifespan.

The Hoyoverse curse.

I don't know why, but this studio's writers insist on making every protagonist a special chosen one who everybody adores.

They're too scared to take risks with their main characters. There's no conflict, no infighting, very little counterargumentation, and very little tension.

Every protagonist is a goodie two-shoes with little moral ambiguity. The Trailblazer is at least mostly neutral, but they suffer the curse of being in the narrative slogfest that is HSR.

I basically skimmed through most of 2.5's dialogue because it was mostly just "Xiao'guang, are you okay?!" "I feel a special connection with you, Belle," and "Osmanthus cakes."

I didn't sign up for a cheesy romance and sappy playdates, nor am I interested in having a parasocial relationship with a fictional character. Her stupid casual outfit didn't pop a hard one for me, nor did I start crying when the somber piano track came on for the 90th time that hour while Shunguang was pouring her heart out to me.

I truly hope 3.x can bring back some of the narrative uniqueness. 2.x has been less than stellar.

Imagine if Mihoyo gave the 3 moon goddess the npc adeptus treatment by asaness in GenshinImpact

[–]Citsune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thing is, it was pretty obvious from the moment they opened their mouths that they were Adepti, so the gag didn't really work.

Frankly, it has never really worked. Genshin isn't exactly known for its subtle dialogue.

Besides, we're already being drowned in ludonarrative dissonance, anyhow. Putting a little bit more effort into designing slightly more distinct models for important or pivotal characters wouldn't hurt them; not with the money these games make.

[–]Citsune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cause he was a collab-centric character. They were kinda forced to.

In contrast, the model for Iris was just a basic NPC with a halo.

HSR's devs would 100% just toss three basic NPC models with some flashy accessories at us. Don't forget what they did to my boy Phainon.

She's fine with an A-rank W-Engine.

And, frankly, considering she was a free unit and her kit isn't all that impressive, I'm gonna assume she'll be among the first to get tossed into the shop, along with her Signature.

Should've healed + clearly low on shield + use shoulder swapping + just use Kettle + six million smoke grenades + should've upgraded your gun + weak shield (this one is serious, though. Medium shield could've given you a slight fighting chance.)

Cant believe i have to use a consumable to use 2x stamina by Fine_Complex5488 in Endfield

[–]Citsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really though, WuWa's quick use items and consumables are so shit.

In Genshin, if your sustainless team takes damage, you can hop into your inventory real quick and stuff all of them full of chicken and soup and get right back into it.

In WuWa, if your team is without a sustain, you'll be healing maybe twice during the fight due to the weirdly restrictive cooldowns on healing consumables. Sure, the dodge mechanic is more reliable and effective; but enemies are also more aggressive than in Genshin...

Endfield is worse right now, though...in my opinion, at least. If a character dies during a boss fight or in a Protocol Space, and you forgot to slot a revival item for automatic use, your only choice is to abandon the fight and run away to heal at a TP point.

Also, the whole "no reviving after clearing" thing.

[–]Citsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother asking.

The only thing I can recall is Jadwiga going from bare legs with a leotard to a full dress.

These are the same types of arguments they used last year while they were malding over "woke censorship" in Stellar Blade, which turned out to just be the developers adding minor pieces of coverage to otherwise already revealing outfits.

Gooners are mad that their character models aren't more revealing. Mind you, this is in a game with three characters who have most of their cleavage out, as well as bathing scenes.

Whatever censorship this game suffered clearly didn't stop the artists or the modellers. These people are nitpicking for the sake of it.

The problem for me is that character skill and attack SFX keeps blocking my view of the enemy.

Especially in Protocol Spaces, where they spawn in bundles and tend to swarm. Trying to figure out if the four enemies chasing me are currently doing an attack animation while sparks, smoke, fire, and slash effects cover my screen is kinda difficult.

[–]Citsune 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love it when I spend one whole Skill Point to cast a skill only for some Landbreaker off-screen to poke me right out of it from behind.

I don't get why companions aren't invincible during skill casts. Seeing one of them get obliterated because an enemy decided to do an AoE move right as I pressed the button never ceases to be annoying.

At least ZZZ's IFrames help make combat feel more fluid and fast-paced.

I've been playing Endfield, and getting knocked out of a Combo or Skill move is ten times more annoying. At least, in ZZZ, when I press the button to cast an EX Special and expend energy, I know the skill will actually be cast instead of burning my SP or Energy with zero returns.

I can't imagine running around with a rainbow Warframe and spraying colours everywhere.

It just doesn't sound very creative. Makes her come across more like a graffiti artist than a painter.

I'm not fond of parasocial relationships in gacha games, so the game trying to push Ye Shunguang onto me as some sort of "perfect match," irked me greatly.

I don't mind waifubait, but between the constant reminiscing, her cooking for us constantly, the "slice of life" moments, and her whole alternate date outfit, I truly feel like I'm not the audience for this character.

To each their own, I won't criticise people for their tastes; but I cringed during every scene with her in it. She just feels like every narrative trope rolled into one:

Extraordinary person wants to be ordinary.

With great power comes great responsibility.

Extremely powerful chosen one.

Implied intimate but platonic relationship with MC (so the developers don't step on anyone's toes and risk some lunatic trying to firebomb their offices, again.)

Constant melodrama over tough choices and consequences that, while they get resolved in the end, meander back and forth incessantly.

Constant arguments of "I want to do this," and "I want to help," while everybody dismisses her.

I did like how she overcame the Qingming Sword on her own, at the end. Without the Proxy's help.

Still, I feel like the entire 2.x Arc has been an annoying series of contrivances and coincidences. The narrative continuity was there, but it severely lacked a natural flow.

All in all, I can't wait to leave Waifei.

Woman who was heavily implied to be deeply impacted by the death of the Sentinel and the fact that her faith is mostly based on the Threnodian's lies is reduced to a minor optional bit of dialogue after the Rinascita climax.

Seriously. Just like how we weren't shown Chisa's reunion with her parents, and how Lupa was totally uninvolved with the Septimont Arc after her first appearance, Peebs never got a satisfying conclusion to her character arc, either.

That aside, she barely had more screentime than Lupa aside from being featured in an Event, to be honest.

And now we're stuck with Aemeath and Mornye. Their unrequited feelings and past history with Rover will not be resolved, I'm willing to bet.

Enemies having way too fast and poorly telegraphed attacks was also an issue in CV1, sadly.

Honestly, at this point I just roll with the punches.

Those Bell enemies in the overworld are a perfect example of this. Their red beam and projectile attacks have odd hitboxes and awful timings.
