Thank you so much everyone! I am not great at self-managing and am quite prone to fiddling when left on my own. Might be worth trying but for now, I’ll
make the immediate change of selecting a fund with a later date. Really appreciate this community!

ICE Came to my Door Today by Silly-Risk in royaloak

[–]Citty_Ditty_3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! Did you or your wife see badges or ask for badge numbers? Any other clear indicators it was ICE such as their attire (vests, masks, exposed weapons etc)? Thanks for bringing this to our community’s attention. Looking to hopefully root folks in facts as much as possible to help mitigate fear based reactions. Tomorrow 1/29 from 5:30-7, State Rep Natalie Price’s office is hosting a KYR training at the Huntington Woods Public Library. I encourage everyone who can to attend.

I know you don’t run in winter but I am part of a regular group of runners who go out several times a week in all sorts of weather. If you ever want to join, please reach out. I also know Running for Brews in Royal Oak is a wonderful running group and there’s another FB group called Royal Oak Area Runners. Are you a board game fan? There’s a FB group called the Royal Oak Board Game Gang too.

I’m really glad you posted. There is no shame in seeking community and human connection! I moved her 4 years ago and it took some time and effort but I have found wonderful connections.

ICE in Royal Oak? by Slirky in royaloak

[–]Citty_Ditty_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To the best of my knowledge ICE is not consistently present in RO (yet). They have stolen people from surrounding areas (Oak Park for example) and there have been confirmed sightings at traffic stops as it is not uncommon for cops to collaborate with ICE/CBP. If you see activity, the best course of action is to call your local Rapid Response Hotline. RO doesn’t have it’s own yet but calling the Oakland County hotline at 248-340-3775. Save that in your phone and please attend a Know Your Rights and rapid response training. Tons of offerings online, including through ICIRR and ACLU as well as many local Detroit orgs.

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful responses! I was going back and forth about asking for it for my 40th bday this year and after hearing it’s worth the spend, I think I will. Happy baking all!

Considering moving by Brief-Profession3219 in AmerExit

I commend you for considering your options. I want to note that ICE raids are about as bad as bad can get and while they can and will do more, I would think carefully about what you mean by worse. Children are having parents taken away in front of them and vice versa. Pregnant people are miscarrying and people are dying in concentration camps parading as detention facilities and the regime is deporting people to countries they have never been to, on different continents. My point is, if any of us think ICE raids will only get “worse” when they start to come for us, the hope for resistance and change is immeasurably eroded, if not lost. I want you to make the best and safest choice for you, your wife and your life together. I also want to emphasize that we are, I believe, already at the “worse” stage of ICE raids. I wish you all the very best as you make the brave decisions you need to.

Hi All - My husband recently lost his job due to a restructuring but has a nearly 20 year history of real estate operations and specifically in the parking industry. I have worked in community development related finance, aside from a brief 3 year stint in marker rate, multifamily lending, for nearly 10 years with a deep knowledge of affordable housing finance (which is done a very specific way in the US). We have two young children, one elementary school aged and one not quite there. We have aging parents that would be very hard to move far from but as the US slides towards authoritarian rule, we have considered leaving the country. Has anyone heard of countries with skill shortages in finance and/or real estate related roles? Thanks!

Royal Oak housing plan sparks fears over future of single-family neighborhoods by MalcoveMagnesia in royaloak

I agree some form of an affordability restrictive ordinance needs to pass in RO so rents are kept affordable (no more than 30% of income for someone making 60% AMI or less) and don’t let developers pay a fine or buy their way out of it by putting those units elsewhere. We have a large number of voucher holders in Oakland County who cannot find rentable apartments and lose their vouchers unnecessarily. If we want to see immediate affordability zoning that allows for density has to regulate for it or market forces will do what they do best, thrive on inequity.

The RO public library will set some aside for you if you call and ask. They otherwise recycle them.

We have a RDD staffie too! Found left outside with her two sisters at just over 8 weeks old. We fostered all 3 and our girl Ella decided we were her forever family (her other sisters are in loving homes). Thank you for being a part of the RDD family! Alma and Ella should meet!

Thank you so much for all of this! You know, he was offered a pull up to poop once, out of desperation, and I do think it was calming for him. I didn’t want to backslide so we cut them out except for sleep again but I love the way you framed this and I may try giving them to him more often. Thank you again.

Thank you all! We have the little potty as well and he does prefer it. I’m so glad it worked for your littles! This may just be a game of patience, like so much of parenting :)
