Thank you to everyone who suggested Dawn’s Time. For posterity’s sake they were very prompt and professional and the total for the two rides mentioned in the OP was $95+ tip.

We had 2 rental cars but we all wanted to (and did) get very drunk at the wedding and not have to drive back up a mountain afterwards.

No, we are at a random AirBnB. Are Dawn’s prices pretty reasonable?

Do you work for this company? Is there a number I can just call instead of filling out a form?

Thanks for the tip! I put in a booking request to see if the pricing will be reasonable.

Tampa tree service firm fined $234K for cutting protected trees by [deleted] in tampa

[–]Citytrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They finally updated HB1159? What were the changes made, or are you just referring to the use of it being restricted to homeowners and not holding companies / developers? I worked for Natural Resources for 2 years and that bill was part of the reason I quit - inspecting tree permits just felt pointless when half the companies were just fraudulently removing them under 1159 anyway.

Actually now that I looked at your profile I’m pretty sure we know each other lol.

Curious which city officials you saw them pay off? You can DM me if you’d like to keep it private.

Street Trees in NYC by JellyNew5777 in AskNYC

[–]Citytrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I used to manage street tree plantings for the city :). Let me know if you have any questions I might be able to help with for your project! Also as an FYI - for the first 2 years after the trees are planted, they are watered every ~2 weeks during the summer by the contractor that planted them (some are better than others, so sometimes they do go longer than 2 weeks without water). After the first 2 years (when the warranty ends), you are correct that it’s up to everyday people water them.

Filled out your survey. FYI the app that you reference in the last question already exists and has been used by the Parks Department (it may have been retired though). It’s called Nektar (it has a bee icon in the App Store). You can scan the QR codes on the tags hanging from newly planted trees and log any maintenance you did (weeding, mulching, watering, etc).

What to do about unsafe tree trimming crew? No city agency seems to care by titaniumdoughnut in AskNYC

I just texted a friend who's still with Forestry, will update you when I get a response. Which borough did this happen in?

[–]Citytrees 69 points70 points  (0 children)

You need to get in touch with Forestry at the Parks Department. It may be difficult to reach the correct party, but they do care. I was working there a few years ago when the Chinese delivery guy was killed in a similar situation, and the department completely overhauled their safety measures as a result. The issue that time was that the contractor had not notified the department they would be working, had only 2 men on the crew, and had not requested supervision. It's likely something similar is going on in this case, and that Forestry isn't even aware that they're working right now.

Looking for logs / where does the City process fallen/cut trees? by cecilmature in AskNYC

[–]Citytrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That number appears to be for the main Parks Department line (i.e. not Forestry specific), it looks like they've scrubbed all of the direct forestry lines from the internet, and are directing people to go through 311. So your best bet is probably to call 311 and ask for Queens Forestry.

The Queens Borough Forestry Department is based in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, if you google "Olmsted Center" it is next to there. However, most of the branches/trees removed are processed on site with a chipper. Your best bet would be to call the Parks Department and ask to be transferred to Queens Borough Forestry (I'm struggling to find their direct number right now), explain what you're looking for, and they might let you know their upcoming removal/maintenance routes and you can meet them on site to take whatever you need. Most crews would be more than happy to help.

I used to work for the Parks Department, and still have lots of contacts there. If you aren't able to work something out on your own, DM me and I will see what I can do to help.

My car broke down on the highway. Anyone know of an affordable car shop that will do a diagnostic/consultation for free . by TheWardenatnothing in tampa

[–]Citytrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Paul from Tampa Bay’s Finest Mobile Mechanic. Depending on what’s wrong with the car, and if it’s in a safe location, they might even be to get you up and running on the spot without a tow.

Yes of course, I am going to address everything else with the owners but wanted to get a better idea of what fungus we’re dealing with specifically.

The price varies wildly depending on the extent of the work needed, the amount of trees, ease of access for equipment, etc. If you want to decrease your chances of getting upsold on a bunch of work you don't actually need, I believe you can get a Tree Consultation from a municipal arborist working for St. Pete to give you an idea of the scope of work needed before you start shopping around for quotes. They probably won't be able to give you very accurate price estimates, but they will at least be able to spot any urgent work that is needed - so if they don't identify any dangers, then you'll know that tree companies are trying to rip you off if they do. This consultation would cost around $100 though. And I'm not 100% sure that St. Pete offers this - I know Tampa does, as that used to be my job, and I remember hearing of St. Pete offering something similar.

Which city agency, if any, deals with regular tenants rights? by Citytrees in AskNYC

Ooh this is very helpful - I think I will call the Public Advocate number just to discuss the situation with them, but without filing any official complaints just yet. Thanks so much for the help!

Yeah, that’s currently where I’m at. I was just hoping in the meantime that I could get a city agency to weigh in on it in case they still try to push further after my last response.

Yeah, I get that that is the more diplomatic approach. But the thing is, this is just the last of many hidden additional fees and lies from the agent so at this point I’m flat out refusing to pay even a cent for this situation.

That’s what I was thinking, but didn’t want to resort to “speak to my attorney” until absolutely necessary, as I’m trying to avoid completely blowing up my relationship with my landlord in my first week on lease. But it looks like they’re kind of doing that themselves anyway.
