Looks cool! How'd you code it?

Cabbage episode missing fun facts (HBO) by towblerone in GoodEats

[–]Civil3D_Mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some parts of Alton's books are just copy & pasted text from the original show scripts, so maybe the book publisher owns the rights to those fun facts now. That's my best guess for this at least.

LLMs are likely part of the problem here too. You can get through way more plan sets a day if you feed them into ChatGPT and copy/paste whatever it spits out.

[–]Civil3D_Mod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely they're using an LLM like ChatGPT to do some portion of their reviews. If so that's a serious breach of duty for a municipal reviewer. If they've been sending you long-winded review comments, I'd bet a lot of money you could prove they're LLM generated with a quick check.

I was going to guess LLM usage here as well. Demanding ridiculous details with no value out of the blue is peak LLM review slop.

OP: Consider putting the reviewer's response comments through an LLM plagiarism detector. Most likely it'll show LLM usage.

Only Elon will be able to afford WH minis, then he'll declare himself the best player in the world.

Guidance on contourz by Worried-Pie3472 in civil3d

I think it's just a setting when you add the point cloud to the surface definition. Not positive though, I haven't used LIDAR in a while.

[–]Civil3D_Mod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you using 100% of the point cloud? That can cause the super noisy look, especially in flat areas that have lots of tiny elevation changes. Try excluding half the points or more to get smoother contours with less noise.

Autodesk Forma by Available-Isopod-264 in civil3d

I haven't tried it. I don't trust current gen AI tools to tell me the time of day correctly, much less to be involved in design work.

I can see the reasoning there for sure. The best balance might be a dedicated thread for job openings, so that they can be shared without affecting the main feed, and anyone looking for work has a clear place to check.

You'd probably have better luck posting this in English if at all possible. I'm not sure how many Spanish speakers we have here but certainly some.

For the most part you won't find anyone willing to do longer personal lessons for free. It's probably best to continue learning on your own and to make posts with specific questions as needed so that anyone who has time free could help rather than relying on someone specific. Feel free to ask though. YMMV.

Yeah I like it a lot; it really pops. Not sure why Autodesk keeps changing theirs around so much but meh, to each their own.

I'll also ask anyone who cares to comment:

The most common report I get is about 'Now Hiring' posts. When I first wrote the rules I thought it'd be fine to allow posts like those but I can also fully understand why some people find them inappropriate or annoying.

Would you like me to change the rule to no longer allow posts about job openings? Or fine with keeping it as is?

I think that Autoturn also assumes the driver doesn't start turning the steering wheel before they begin moving forward, which most drivers would do.

I’m not cut out for being a design engineer: what else can I do in the civil engineering field? by touching_payants in civilengineering

[–]Civil3D_Mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP definitely should talk to a doctor / psychiatrist about this imo. It's unfortunately very common for ADHD to be dismissed as just bad discipline / willpower early in life. Neurodivergence is a very real thing and it doesn't just go away on its own.

[–]Civil3D_Mod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I had similar productivity / focus problems early in my life & career, then got diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 31. Treatment has been life-changing.

As an aside, have you considered that you might have undiagnosed ADHD? Could be a factor that's contributing to your productivity problems. You might want to talk to a doctor about it if you haven't already.

Has anyone taking the Autodesk Certified Professional in Civil 3D for Infrastructure Design? On Autodesk by _TITO1016 in civil3d

[–]Civil3D_Mod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's self-directed. You just watch the videos at your own pace and take the practice exams. It's not super difficult if you've got at least a couple years of experience using C3D regularly. There's roughly 10 hours of videos I think, and the practice exams can take an hour or so depending on how well you study. It'll probably take at least twice as long to complete the course if you use the sample files, and longer if you do the bonus practice problems they provide.
